Work in Progress Wednesday 176

Hi everyone! I'm back! Sorry about last week. I was sick again. Can you believe it? I want to know, what in the world happened to just normal every day colds? I don't think they exist anymore, and if they do, they aren't the ones I'm catching. This was my second sickness in 3 weeks, and both times it took me out for a full week. This one was slightly different than the first, which I guess is good? Who knows. Anyway, let's hope I have that over with for the year. ::knocks on wood:: I'm feeling much better, despite having to miss not only a hockey game I got tickets for as a Christmas present, I also missed all TNNA weekend. How much does THAT suck? My husband was also sick (which is how I caught this one. He's the culprit so blame him for now WIPW and FOF last week) so the house pretty much fell apart last week. This week I get to pick up the piece of it and also catch up on the many many orders I didn't ship last week. FUN!

That said, with as sick as I was, I didn't knit for a FULL week. Not a single stitch. Can you believe that? The good news is, there is more to share with you than I had last time because I knit a TON while my husband was sick, but before I got it!

(sorry this picture is really blown out but the light was too close and it looked good on my phone!)

These are my Hermione's Everyday Socks that I started a few weeks ago. I finished the first sock in less than a week and thought I would have the pair done within two weeks. How awesome would that have been? ::sigh:: Sensing a theme here? Anyway, It's still going fast! This colorway is so fun to knit because you never know what color will come next. It's Candy Skein's January '14 colorway, Confetti Cupcake, which you can buy here as a single skein or buy the next three months as a subscription!

I got a gorgeous skein of yarn this week, breaking my 'no yarn between Stitches' rule, but I blame the ick that ran through me when I pressed the buy button. See, I had an excuse. I've always wanted to try Wollmeise and The Loopy Ewe updated JUST as I was on twitter. When does that happen? I had to click the link, right? Then I fell in love. Anyway, I'll post that next week or Friday. As a treat, I'm going to start a project with it for the Yarniacs podcast KAL going on right now, Self Indulgent knit along. Perfect timing if I do say so myself.

That's it for me today! I hope you have a great rest of the week and I'll see you on Friday!

FO Friday 164

Good morning! Sorry I'm posting this late today. I hope you had a great week and have fun plans this weekend. Tonight we're going to Disneyland, so I'm super excited for that. We have annual passes and my husband works about 10-15 minutes away, so it works out perfect. Every year we each pick out a Disney ornament for the Christmas tree, so that's our mission tonight. Tomorrow we get the tree, which I'm SUPER excited about, except it's supposed to rain all day. Boooooo. Hopefully it all works out.

As promised, I have my second Hogwarts Express shawl to share with you. This time I knit it in Candy Skein Yummy fingering, November colorway, Mulled Wine. I used black matte square beads, which I wasn't sure about at first, but loved in the end.

I actually already gave the shawl to the friend it was intended for, because I wasn't sure when we'd be seeing her for Christmas. Rather early than late I say! I think it was the best reception I've ever received for a hand knit, and made my week. Not only did she adore it and praise it, she also called a few days later to express how much she loved it again. There's nothing better than that. I'm so honored she will cherish it.

That's it for me today. I hope you have an amazing weekend and stay warm!

Work in Progress Wednesday 171

Hi everyone! I'm sorry that I'm just posting this now. Since my friend Alea is in town, I totally forgot it was Wednesday since I'm not working. We've had a ton of fun doing touristy stuff in San Diego, but also just hanging out and watching tv. We've also had tons of fun with a Rainbow Loom (a bracelet maker with rubber bands) that Alea bought while here.

I've gotten a little time to work on a few projects with knitting group and last night. I got a little further on my second Hogwarts Express shawl. The eyes are added and I've done two more rows since. I love the way it's coming along, and though I was unsure of the square matte black eyes for the owls, now I like it.

I also started the Gingerbread Lane cross stitch pattern from the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. As you can see I don't have a lot yet, but this pattern is adorable! We glitter sprayed our linen, which is so awesome!

That's it for me today. I hope you have a great rest of the week.

Work in Progress Wednesday 170

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a good day and week. Yesterday I had a tooth filled at the dentist, which isn't much fun, but today I'm getting my hair cut! I'm super excited about it. It's been annoying me for a few months now and just need a new look. I can't wait!

As far as a work in progress, I've been working on my second Hogwarts Express shawl. I'm using the Candy Skein color of the month, Mulled Wine, and as mentioned last week, this one will be a gift.

Sorry for the crappy picture. It's late at night and my phone wasn't focusing.

I haven't had much time to work on it, so it actually feels as if it's moving super fast, just as my first one. I just finished the math to place the owls, and this next row will be the first for the owls. I can't wait! So far I love how the colorway is knitting up and think it will look even better once I'm into the edging.

I still haven't decided on eye/bead color yet. I have these square black matte and shiny beads that might be cool. I'm going to try them and if they aren't working, then off to the bead store for me. Do you have any ideas for eye/bead color? I'd love to hear your suggestions.

I want to apologize to everyone having issues lately in posting their links. I'm not sure what's going on, but have a ticket into the Mister Linky people. Hopefully we can figure out why some people can and others can't post their links. If you have issues, just post your link in the comments for the time being. Thanks for understanding!

That's it for me. I hope you all have a great rest of your week.

FO Friday 161

Happy Friday! It's been a tough and tiring week in my house, so we are VERY excited that tomorrow is the weekend. I'm looking forward to spending time with my husband this weekend, just hanging out at home. We don't see much of each other during the week, now that he has to travel quite a distance for work each day.

Believe it or not, I actually have a FO!

As you know, I've been addicted to making the Hogwarts Express Shawl. If you follow me on Instagram, you've already seen these pictures, but I wanted to share them with everyone here as well. I can't say enough about this pattern or this shawl. Not to also toot my own horn, but I also LOVE the new Candy Skein Savory fingering. It's such a pleasure to work with.

Materials:

Pattern: Hogwarts Express by Susan Ashcroft
Yarn: Candy Skein Savory fingering in Oatmeal Cookie
Needle: US 6 (4.0 mm)

That's it for me. I hope you have a great weekend!

Work in Progress Wednesday 169

Hi everyone. I hope you had a great weekend and start to your week. We had a great time at Disneyland and I even finished my Hogwarts Express shawl in time to wear it for (un)official Harry Potter day at Disneyland.

I had such a great time making the Hogwarts Express shawl, that I've already started a second one. This will be a Christmas gift for a friend. I really hope she likes it! She's always interested in my knitting and Candy Skein and I thought she would be someone who would really appreciate something hand knit. I'm using the Candy Skein November monthly colorway, Mulled Wine, which is a deep, rustic red with great tonal variation. She wears a lot of neutrals so I thought this would give her a good pop of color.

NOTE: For some reason Blogger is changing the color within my picture. Click here for the flickr image to get a more accurate idea of the color which is MUCH darker than the picture is showing with a lot more tone.

That's it for me today! I hope you have a great rest of your day and week.

Work in Progress Wednesday 168

Hi everyone. I hope you're all doing great. Happy early Halloween. I love love love Halloween and this year we're staying home to watch scary movies and hand out candy. I hope we get lots of kids at the house this year. :)

This has grown a bit since last you saw it. Here in this picture, I've done the body of the shawlette/scarf and am now working on the owl border. Again, this is the Hogwarts Express pattern by Susan Ashcroft. I'm using Candy Skein Savory fingering Oatmeal Cookie.

Thanks to those who helped me on Instagram last night in the bead decision. I have these blue beads, and also tan ones and couldn't decide which I liked. Almost everyone picked the blue so that is what I went with. Not the best picture, but you get the idea. Right before I typed this, I finished putting the eyes on all 29 owls.

I'm also still working on my cross stitch Halloween sampler. Unfortunately, I won't be finished by Halloween, but I will keep working on it until I finish it. I love this pattern so so much. This pattern is by the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery.

For those interested, Candy Skein October colorway, Candy Corn, will be gone on Friday! Be sure to grab a skein before it goes away.

That's it for me today. I hope you have a fun and safe Halloween.

Work in Progress 167

Hi everyone! I hope your week is going great. Thank you all for the birthday wishes last week. I really appreciate it. We had a great weekend.

This week I feature a new WIP. I didn't want to show you my Candy Corn socks again as I have started the second one, but it looks just like the first of course. When I get a little further I'll share it as a WIP again.

I didn't really plan to start another project, but I was catching up on the Yarniacs podcast. Gayle, one of the hosts, was talking about the Hogwarts Express shawl by Susan Ashcroft. I always tend to keep my computer or phone close when listening to their podcast because they always have great pattern suggestions. As soon as I saw this shawl, I knew I had to make it. I also knew exactly what yarn I'd make it with! I'm using Candy Skein Savory fingering in Oatmeal Cookie. I'm hoping I can crank this shawl out, because we really want to go to the unofficial Harry Potter day at Disneyland on November 3rd and I'd love to wear it. That probably won't happen, but who knows.

That's it for me today. I hope you all have a great rest of your week.

FO Friday 43 and My Thoughts on the End of an Era

Happy Friday! I'm ready for the weekend, but I must say, I'm not ready for Harry Potter to end. I know this is a knitting and crochet blog, but please bear with me.

Although I'm a little on the old side to say that I grew up with Harry Potter (I'll be 32 this year), it has been very much a part of my life. I started reading the books when there were only 3 in the series, and since then have seen almost all the movies on opening night, and went to book 5-7's midnight book release parties. I obviously own all the books and movies, as well as figures, statues, clothes, etc. I'm a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of HP, and it makes me teary eyed to think that it's over. Sure, we can read the books again, or watch the movies but it won't be the same. We won't wonder what comes next, or how the movies will compare to the books. After the last book, I was pretty sad, but there was always the movies left to look forward to. I pretty much bawled at Part 1, but I knew that I still had Part 2 to look ahead. What now? To me, there will never be another book, movie, intellectual property, that I will feel apart of like I do with Harry Potter. I look forward to watching the last movie this weekend (I decided not to go to the midnight showing, because I wanted to make sure I felt good and enjoyed it, instead of being tired and grumpy), and dread it all the same. I plan to bring TONS of tissues, since just the thought of it, and the trailer makes me cry. This may sound stupid, but I feel like there will be a feeling of loss when it's over. I plan to read all the books again, and watch all the movies in a long marathon (when Part 2 comes out on blu-ray), but it will never be like the first time. So, I want to thank J.K Rowling for making such an incredible story, for shaping people's childhoods and for making Young Adult fiction what it is today. Without you, I wouldn't write Young Adult books. Heck, I probably wouldn't even be a writer. I'm not ashamed to say that Harry Potter has shaped a part of me...and I already miss Harry and the gang.

Okay, enough of that. Thanks for sticking through it (if you did). On to FO Friday.

These are really crappy pictures, so I'm sorry for that, but I was so proud to have finished my cowl I had to share before it was finished blocking. I still have the buttons to pick out, but seeing as I was dreading the buttonholes, it's a feat to have finished. As you can see with the button hole picture, they suck, but I think they'll do. They're a little smaller than I wanted, and for some reason, two of them have yarn running through them, but if I find the right buttons, I can make it work. At least they're there, and when the cowl is on and buttoned, no one will know, right? Sorry for the semi-cheat post, since it's not 100% officially done. I'll share it next Friday as well, so you can see it completed.
