Work in Progress Wednesday 176
That said, with as sick as I was, I didn't knit for a FULL week. Not a single stitch. Can you believe that? The good news is, there is more to share with you than I had last time because I knit a TON while my husband was sick, but before I got it!
(sorry this picture is really blown out but the light was too close and it looked good on my phone!)
These are my Hermione's Everyday Socks that I started a few weeks ago. I finished the first sock in less than a week and thought I would have the pair done within two weeks. How awesome would that have been? ::sigh:: Sensing a theme here? Anyway, It's still going fast! This colorway is so fun to knit because you never know what color will come next. It's Candy Skein's January '14 colorway, Confetti Cupcake, which you can buy here as a single skein or buy the next three months as a subscription!
I got a gorgeous skein of yarn this week, breaking my 'no yarn between Stitches' rule, but I blame the ick that ran through me when I pressed the buy button. See, I had an excuse. I've always wanted to try Wollmeise and The Loopy Ewe updated JUST as I was on twitter. When does that happen? I had to click the link, right? Then I fell in love. Anyway, I'll post that next week or Friday. As a treat, I'm going to start a project with it for the Yarniacs podcast KAL going on right now, Self Indulgent knit along. Perfect timing if I do say so myself.
That's it for me today! I hope you have a great rest of the week and I'll see you on Friday!

Work in Progress Wednesday 117
Hi everyone! Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!! Today I'm going to do a duel post, and I hope you don't mind. Not only do I have a new WIP, it has to do with a new Candy Skein colorway, the November '12 Sock colorway, Pumpkin Pie. I figured it made sense to put these two posts into one.
First off, I want to hear what great things everyone is doing for Halloween! My husband will (hopefully) be coming home early so we can pass out candy and watch scary movies in our new house. We might have a few friends over, too, which is going to be a blast! We don't know what to expect as far as Trick or Treaters go so we bought a LOT of candy. Everyone in the neighborhood decked out their house with decorations so I hope we get a lot!
Before I show you my WIP, I have to show you the yarn!
Thanksgiving in the US is one of my favorite times of year. By the end of November, it’s finally chilly where I live and family and friends find time to stop their busy schedules to spend the holiday together. As much as I love Thanksgiving dinner, to me it’s all about dessert. Each year, my husband and I make gluten free pumpkin pie from scratch (yes, we use real pie pumpkins AND make the crust from scratch) and I love making them as much as I love eating them.
That’s why I picked Pumpkin Pie as the November 2012 colorway! This awesome yarn is kettle dyed in three different layers of light beige, light copper brown and deep copper to give it a modeled look when knit/crocheted. It would be perfect for any project!
Colorway: Pumpkin Pie
Fiber content: 75% Merino Wool, 25% Nylon Superwash
Weight: Fingering Weight
Yardage: 465 yards
Unit Weight: 100 grams
Care: Machine wash/Tumble dry low
Price: $20
Available here now!
Okay, now that we got that out of the way, I can show you what I started with the colorway!
I decided to do 2x2 ribbed socks, since I have a lot of other projects on the go. This needs no thought and is a great project to work on while I'm waiting for the yarn to dye during the day. I'm making the pair for my husband, but SHHHhhhh he doesn't know! I'm going to carry the ribbing down into the instep. Isn't the colorway pretty knitted up!!?? I'm loving the modeled look so far!
That's it for me today! Please have a fun AND safe Halloween tonight!

Work in Progress Wednesday 110
I'm sure you'll be getting a lot of WIPW and FO Fridays sans fiber in the next few weeks (maybe a month or two) and I apologize in advance. That doesn't mean you won't get awesome/interesting pictures though, I promise! There is exciting things afoot here that will be about a Candy Skein studio and even a yarn room!
Did I mention the escrow is only 30 days and that the day we close is the DAY BEFORE A FIBER SHOW I HAVE A BOOTH AT????? Umm, yeah. How's THAT for timing!!??
Enough of that insanity, onto WIPW!!!!
I don't have too much to share today, as you can see, but I think I do have a good excuse. Last night (well, okay, I won't lie. I'm writing this on Tuesday night obviously, so really tonight) I finished the pattern and started the toe of this sock. I'm sure by the time you read this, I will have finished it! I think I'm going to quickly start the second sock, so I don't lose momentum. My original plan was to have both done by Friday, but obviously that won't happen. I will happily share this finished sock with you on Friday though, and will count it toward my FO Friday streak if you don't think that's cheating. It will be 4 weeks in a row with some kind of object finished!
Just to remind you, this is the Devil Snare sock.
That's it for me today! Hope you have a great day and an awesome rest of the week!

FO Friday 102
Speaking of that FO, I actually finished them before you saw them (recently) on WIPW, so to remind you, here's a picture of me balancing on a tree stump VERY carefully while taking a picture of my own foot. I had my other foot on another part of the tree that hadn't been cut down.
Here's a picture of me completely balancing on the stump so that you can see there are actually two socks finished! This pattern is Horcrux Socks. I actually started them on May 15th, 2012, hence why they are knit in Candy Skein Monthly Sock May colorway, Candy Skein 1st Birthday. You may notice that one of the socks looks a little smaller than the other in the above picture...
That's why I keep showing you the right one, because it's the sock that actually fits the way it should. Well, that and I'm left handed/footed so I have better balance standing on my left leg. You see, I knit the first one (make that, the left one) as the pattern said for the heel turn/gusset/toe (the heel flap I changed, as the pattern calls for a stockinette stitch heel and I wanted to continue the ribbing down). I should have gone with my gut and knit the heel turn and gusset how I normally do. Unfortunately, it's a little tight. Wearable, but tight. Due to that fact, despite loving the way the right sock fits, I'll probably keep these in the drawer until all other pairs are dirty. They are pretty though!
And one last picture because I was having fun! These were taken in my back yard, which overlooks a public pond! I'm sure my neighbors now think I'm insane (if they didn't already) as I climbed all over the tree trying to get good angles while bending down and taking the pictures of my stocking feet.
And yes, the tattoo is all heeled now! YAY!
Materials used:
Candy Skein Yummy fingering in May '12 colorway, Candy Skein 1st Birthday
Size US 0 needles w/ 32" cable
Horcrux Socks
Darning needle
Notes: As mentioned, I knit the heel flap different from the pattern. I carried the ribbing down instead of doing straight stockinette. I also added 5 more rows of ribbing before starting the heel flap as these are pretty short socks. The first one, I followed the pattern for the heel turn and gusset, but for the second sock I just used my favorite method so that the sock would fit better.
Also, if you haven't seen it yet, I had a Candy Skein update yesterday, including the September '12 colorway reveal and a few new colorways!
That's it for me today! I hope you have a great (and safe) holiday weekend if you're in the States!

Candy Skein Update!
The seasons are changing and Autumn is in the air. The leaves will start to fall and the apple orchards will be bursting with gorgeous red and green apples. That’s why I picked Honey Crisp Apple as the September 2012 colorway! This awesome yarn is kettle dyed with a pink red over a pale green undercoat and would be perfect for any Fall project! Available for purchase here!

FO Friday 101
Despite only working on this for a few days total probably, it feels like I started it forever ago, due to not working on it during my cardigan (yes, the cardigan. I haven't finished that yet unfortunately).
It's ALMOST dry, but I don't want to pull it too early, so you get an off color blocking shot. Again, just like the Trillian, it practically doubled in size! I promise to take better pics with me wearing it this weekend when my husband can help out. :) This was taken in weird artificial lighting in my dining room with my iPhone. Colors are more accurate in previous pictures.
Materials used:
Pattern: Hitchhiker shawl
Yarn: Candy Skein Yummy fingering in Rainbow Fruit Chews
Needles: US size 4
That's it for me today! I hope you all have a great weekend. :)

FO Friday 94
I've been busy with updates to Candy Skein Yummy fingering, which was posted yesterday including a new colorway, Rainbow Fruit Chews! Be sure to check it out. :)
As promised on Wednesday, I'm going to share my Trillian shawl! I love how it turned out and can't wait to make another one. I think it's a perfect pattern for variegated yarns. The way this yarn pooled, it makes me think of either a marble, or when I used to use Silly Putty to copy Sunday comics from the news paper and then would stretch it!
I was SOOO excited to block it, I forgot to measure it and take a picture of it after it was finished but before it was soaking. I used T pins to block it, as I don't have blocking wires. I have to say, due to the garter stitch, this thing GREW. It just about tripled in size.
And here I am wearing it. Excuse the none matching, but my husband took this on 4th of July so I was wearing red, white and blue! The shawl doesn't exactly match, but I didn't want to change just for the picture. LOL
Materials:
Pattern: Trillian shawl
Yarn: Candy Skein Yummy fingering in Sock Club June '12 colorway Lemongrass Sour
Needles: US 4 (3.5MM) Knit Picks Harmony
Have a great weekend!

Hunger Games Effie Sock Pattern Featuring Butter Mints!
As some of you already know, I've been working with designer Yavanna Reynolds (datenshi on Ravelry) on a Hunger Games inspired Effie pattern featuring Candy Skein April colorway of the month, Butter Mints! The pattern is still in test knitting, but you can see her beautiful work on the project page, Effie Socks.
I hope you love the pattern and the yarn as much as I do! I'm currently knitting it, and it's a joy to work on! Make sure you also check out Yavanna's other great Hunger Games inspired sock patterns on Ravelry! I have a feeling more and more people are going to be talking about her wonderful, imaginative designs very soon!
The pattern should be available toward the end of this month, beginning of next and I plan to hold a KAL on the Candy Skein Addicts group for those interested in knitting the pattern with Candy Skein yarn! A few of our test knitters are using different colors, so you can see how the pattern knits up in semi-solid and variegated colorways.
Here are a few of her pictures (again, these are not my pictures but belong to the designer, Yavanna) that are featured on the project page!

Aren't they gorgeous!!?? I can't wait to continue knitting them and also for the May/June KAL!
