Tähtivaeltaja-palkinto 2020 Margaret Atwoodille

Helsingin Science Fiction Seura ry:n Tähtivaeltaja-palkinto on vuonna 2020 myönnetty Margaret Atwoodin Testamentit -romaanille. 2019 parhaan suomeksi julkaistun tieteiskirjan on kääntänyt alkuperäiskielestä Hilkka Pekkanen.

Asiantuntijaraadin perustelun mukaan

”Kirja on tärkeä muistutus siitä, että ääriaatteisiin perustuva sorto ei ole pelkästään menneisyyden haamu, vaan läsnä myös nykyhetkessämme. Samalla teos kertoo siitä, että kaikki alistamisen järjestelmät koostuvat pohjimmiltaan pienistä ihmisistä kaikkine ristiriitaisuuksineen – ja että vastarinta on mahdollista, tarpeellista ja välttämätöntä.”

Margaret Atwood voitti Tähtivaeltaja-palkinnon myös 2016 Uusi maa -teoksellaan. Hän on Philip K. Dickin ohella toinen kirjailija, joka on voittanut palkinnon kahdesti.

Tähtifantasia-palkintoehdokkaat 2020 on valittu

Helsingin Science Fiction Seura ry on valinnut vuosittaisen Tähtifantasia-palkinnon ehdokkaat. Palkinto myönnetään parhaalle suomennetulle tai suomalaiselle fantasiakirjalle ja ehdokaslista näyttää perusteluineen tältä:

Katri Alatalo: Ikuisesti, siskoni (Gummerus) 

Huikaisevan kauniilla ja aistivoimaisella kielellä kerrottu eeppinen fantasia vie syvälle syyllisyyden ja sisaruuden teemoihin.

2020 Hugo, Lodestar ja Astounding sekä 1945 Retro Hugo -ehdokkaat

Tämän vuoden science fiction ja fantasia -genren päätapahtuma, Uuden-Seelannin worldcon on fyysisesti peruttu, mutta netin kautta ohjelmaa järjestettäneen ja genren Hugo-palkinnot jaetaan. Viime vuonna ilmestyneiden tuotosten ehdokaslista julkaistiin tänään. Lisäksi jaetaan vuoden 1945 Retro Hugo ja Astounding sekä Lodestar -palkinnot. Hugo-ääniä annettiin 1584. Helsingin Science Fiction Seura ry:n Tähtivaeltaja-palkintoehdokaslista on julkistettu. Palkinto luovutetaan edellisvuoden parhaalle Suomessa ilmestyneelle tieteiskirjalle. Lopulliselle ehdokaslistalle 2020 raati on valinnut seuraavat teokset perusteluineen:

Naomi Alderman: Voima (The Power, suom. Marianna Kurtto, Gummerus) (arvostelu)

Dystopiatrilleri kääntää sukupuolten valtasuhteet päälaelleen, kun naisille kehittyy kyky antaa tappavia sähköiskuja. Teos peilaa viiltävästi aikamme tasa-arvokysymyksiä väittämättä kuitenkaan vallan väärinkäyttöä minkään tietyn sukupuolen piirteeksi.

Margaret Atwood: Testamentit (The Testaments, suom. Hilkka Pekkanen, Otava) (lyhyt arvostelu)

Gileadin uskonnolliseen sukupuolisortoon palaava romaani on valitettavan ajankohtainen puheenvuoro uuskonservativismin lisääntyessä. Samalla teos kuitenkin muistuttaa, että aina on niitä, jotka eivät alistu.

Agustina Bazterrica: Rotukarja (Cadáver exquisito, suom. Einari Aaltonen, Like) (arvostelu)
Ravisteleva kuvaus yhteiskunnasta, jossa on siirrytty laajamittaiseen ihmissyöntiin. Romaani kommentoi painokkaasti teollista lihantuotantoa ja rahan vallan epäinhimillistävää vaikutusta.

Peter Høeg: Sinun silmiesi kautta (Gennem dine øjne, suom. Sanna Manninen, Tammi)
Aivokuvannusmenetelmät ja lapsuusystävien kokemukset avaavat tien mielenfilosofiseen pohdintaan. Soljuvan syvällinen lukuromaani esittää suuria kysymyksiä tajunnasta, persoonasta ja toisen ihmisen ymmärtämisestä.

Antti Salminen: Mir (Poesia)
Fragmentaarinen, romaanin rajoja rikkova teos vie villin lyyriselle matkalle sienten varjobiosfääriin. Mir nostaa lukijan eteen toiseuden, jossa ihminen on parhaimmillaankin vain vähäinen palvelija sienten ja kasvien ikiaikaisessa sodassa.

Palkinto jaetaan huhti-toukokuussa.

British Science Fiction Association on julkaissut BSFA-palkintojen vuoden 2019 ehdokaslistan. Kategorioiden voittajat valitsee perinteiseen tapaan yhdistyksen jäsenet sekä Easterconiin osallistujat. Tulokset julkistetaan tämän vuoden Easterconissa huhtikuussa Birminghamissa.

Tähtifantasia-palkinto 2019 Houreunelle

Täällä ollaan Jyväskylän Finnconissa, jossa Helsingin Science Fiction Seura ry julkaisi juuri tämän vuoden Tähtifantasia-palkinnon voittajan eli parhaan viime vuonna julkaistun suomennetun fantasiakirjan. Voittaja on Samanta Schweblinin Houreuni.

Asiantuntijaraati sanoo perusteluissaan mm. "Houreuni on vaikuttavan tiivis pienoisromaani, joka toimii todella hyvin juuri tämän kokoisena - yhtään turhaa sanaa ei ole. Einari Aaltosen käännös muuntaa Schweblinin riisutun tehokkaan proosan erinomaisesti suomeksi. Sanat kylmäävät ja liukuvat aivopoimujen väliin. Romaani on ajankohtainen hätähuuto luonnon puolesta ja Schweblinin tarinansa sisään piilottama ympäristöahdistus tunkeutuu lukijaan huomaamatta kuin hermomyrkky. Kirjan alkuperäisen nimen - Pelastusetäisyys - hengessä teos pohtii, olemmeko menneet liian pitkälle ja olemmeko valmiita maksamaan tekojemme hinnan."

Helsingin Science Fiction Seura ry on valinnut vuosittaisen Tähtifantasia-palkinnon ehdokkaat. Palkinto myönnetään parhaalle suomennetulle fantasiakirjalle ja ehdokaslista näyttää perusteluineen tältä:

• Matt Haig: Kuinka aika pysäytetään (Aula & Co, suom. Sarianna Silvonen) – Eri aikatasoilla leikittelevä romaani pohtii ikuisen elämän ongelmaa viisaasti mutta viihdyttävästi.
• Robin Hobb: Narrin salamurhaaja (Otava, suom. Ilkka Rekiaro) – Vahvalla kerronnalla ja henkilökuvauksella varustettu seikkailutarina, jolla on sanottavaa myös ihmisten kyvyttömyydestä ymmärtää toisiaan. (arvostelu)
