Blue Jean Mania

Image
Well, I cleaned the sewing room. Friday, it was no small task. The hoarder in me found no less than 40 pairs of blue jeans. That's right, folks... you heard it... FORTY!!! Time for an intervention, right? You really aren't a hoarder if you do something with them. I keep telling everyone around me that. So, I did. I cut and cut and cut some more. This was the almost gone pile. And finally I had them all cut. Nice circles.. All ready for a blanket. Anyone need any pockets?  I have tons and I don't do anything with those. I would gladly drop those in the mail to anyone that could use them! Today, I am stepping out of the house. In my agoraphobic deer camp state, I have not stepped off the property since Thursday. Oh, how I could be a hermit... A hermit hoarder, How I identify with those people! They say admitting it is the first step!

Ramblings of a Non Deer Camp Widow

Image
This is the view outside my front door this morning. It certainly brightened my mood! Sunrise and Sunset, while we don't have fantastic, uninterrupted views of them, I am thankful for the views that we have! .And now on to the ramblings. Anyone remember this post? http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2011/11/ten-good-things-about-deer-camp.html One short year ago. Well this year ends a long standing tradition. JWS is staying home for deer camp. Those of you who know us, would say it is only a nine year tradition that you are alone for deer camp. True, very true. But you see, I began a tradition of being alone (well except for those child rearing years when you are NEVER alone)  for deer camp in 1978 in another life. Thanksgiving over, a long weekend off work before the chaos of Christmas starts. I loved it. No wait, I cherished it! How quickly it was gone! I heard those words several ago, "I don't thi...

Hang on to your hat post!

OK, here goes. I haven't been around for awhile so there is a lot to tell. See this adorable pic above? Well, below is what it took to get it. Think we have a little live wire there?  And finally, when I got the "good" pic. I had to crop it to remove the boob shot that Dianna gave us all! We had our Easter celebration on Friday. Somewhere along the line, I decided to make a favorite dessert for each of my son-in-laws. So, Friday morning I made two peach pies, two chocolate chess pies, one peanut butter chocolate pie and an apple walnut cake. Whew... I used to bake, but rarely do anymore. Jennifer didn't know me then. She couldn't figure out where I bought the pie crust. I guess that's a compliment? Saturday morning, had me searching for an Amish to make a new awning for our porch. First Amish Farm "Well, uh, you go to the end of this road and turn right, go to the driveway...

Rainy Saturday and the paint brushes are flying

Thank-you, thank-you, THANK-YOU to Laurie at Buttons and Lace for her generous donation of fabric for the I SPY quilt.  I so appreciated it all!  and every bit of it will go to good use!  This is in the new Quick and Easy Painting Magazine. And this just popped into my head for the canteen, sort of woodsy, don't you think? And this is one of the ten or so items that I antiqued today.  What a mess that makes of my hands and of course, I could not find any gloves. Fabrics I found the other day for the I Spy quilt!

Stay and Play

Image
After a particularly stressful week at work, last minute orders, lots of non-profit jobs, mistakes that cost us $$$, and two classes of sixth graders to print their own shirts, John thought a run would clear my head. He was right, it did, although is the hurting in my legs this morning worth it? Somewhere in the middle of all that, I remembered that I have a painting order for a shower this weekend. Why can't I get organized? This is the board that needs painted. I'll start it this morning and hopefully finish it this evening. Yellow, Purple and Butterflies, maybe that is why I am procrastinating. And tomorrow I am teaching these flowers at the church. I have twenty five of them cut. I really think that I have the hard work done. They get the fun part, melting the edges. I like that part! Now where are those tea lights? And this was Gracelyn yesterday morning when I told her that we had to get ready for work. "No Momma, stay here and play" I know ex...

Paying attention in church?

Image
You see, I had this shirt on. I have had this for years and wear it about once a season, probably because it is the most uncomfortable shirt that I own. Could not move in it without it gapping and showing things that need not be shown. As I was sitting there, the thought came to me, "Hey, I'll bet this would make some neat flowers" So I came home and after a bit of a Sunday afternoon nap, (don't happen often, but I love them!) I started cutting. Lots of them ready to be burnt, but I only finished the two shown here. Oh, and I also put together all the other ones shown here. And worked on the I Spy quilt some more. At one point, my aunt sent me a photo of the I Spy quilt that she had made as well as her leftover fabric and when I saw hers, I debated tearing mine apart and starting over, but then common sense set in and I kept moving on this one. Hope that everyone has a great week. Please remember to scoot down a few posts and enter the giveaway.

Words that strike terror!

Image
It happened, I knew it would! He tolerated my sickness, he built walls with pillows between us in the bed, he sprayed, he told me that I was sick because I don't eat right, I don't take care of myself, I forget my vitamins, I don't get enough sleep. He told me that he was the picture of health, he exercises, he takes vitamins, he gets enough sleep, he eats right, he takes care of himself. And then... Mark the time... 4:30 AM this morning and the words that struck terror. "WHERE IS THE VICKS ?" OH MY GOSH, NO!!! ANYTHING BUT THAT, PLEASE DON'T LET HIM BE SICK! And he is. He has a cold, despite the healthy food, despite the intense amounts of vitamins, sleep and exercise, he is sick. Well at least it justifies my haphazard approach to my health. So this morning, since I was awake from finding the Vicks, my sewing room was a disaster, it has been that way for awhile and getting worse. I don't mind the chaos, but this was bordering on the hoarder syndrom...

Playing in the dirt and stones

Image
A little over a week ago it looked like this http://tolentreasures.blogspot.com/2010/03/dirt-everywhere.html I thought it would take all summer to get it back. Last night with the help of that backhoe that you see in the background of this pic, John and I managed to get it back this far. I have MORE blisters. My summer hands have had too long of a rest! And thanks to the guys that dug it up to begin with, the path was not so hard to put back together. The rock wall was a bit of a challenge, but I persevered. This is my little kitchen garden. It is right under my kitchen window and I plant fresh herbs, you can barely see the perennial chives and sage and thyme that are already growing there and managed to survive the beating that they took. A tomato plant, some onions and a few pepper plants and it makes the perfect size, manageable garden for me. Now to plant some grass! When I hit the chair last night, I finally managed to finish this penny rug. Not sure who it is for,...

Grandma's Chair

Image
Grandma's Chair might be getting too small for all of them to sit in it together. It is so hard to get all four of them to sit together so I guess if we just cram them all together and they can't move, it is a good time for a picture! We had our Easter celebration with our family on Friday night. They hunted eggs in all the disaster area that we call our yard right now. Dirt and Mud and holes and ditches, but it was alright, the mess doesn't seem to bother the little ones. They hunted eggs. And some were up high enough only for the tallest one to reach. And SOMEBODY (Dianna) thought that Kendall needed a BLUE peep. Her little blue face was so cute! They roasted marshmallows. The kids got us this fire pit for Christmas. I love it! John likes it also, but he calls it a yuppie fire pit. He warned Brian not to bring us any of that "redneck" firewood, that it would not fit in our "yuppie" fire pit. Gracelyn , who is normally scared of Uncle C...
