Busy

Lots happening here.  Some good some not so good.  First Hubby came down with the flu (not covid).  He was sick for a couple of days.  Then as it usually happens, I came down with it.  As usual, I got it worse and was sick for a week.

On the 19th my youngest daughter had surgery done.  She had had a partial hysterectomy a few years ago.  They found a mass and decided to do a total and removed the mass.  It was benign and she is doing wonderfully.

The last couple of days we've been getting our travel trailer ready to go camping next weekend.  We are camping with my oldest daughter and her husband.  I can't tell you how happy it makes me that they want to spend so much time with us.  We have another two camping trips planned.

Now to share my sewing projects.

1.  May Monthly Mini

When I've had some spare time, I've been cutting out 3" finished half square triangles with my Accuquilt Go cutter.  I really wanted to do a pieced mini this month and this is what I came up with.

2.  Fig Tree quilts Autumn Frolic BOM

My birthday is in October so I'm and Autumn baby.  I love anything to do with Autumn.

3.  Open Skies BOM by Connecting Threads

This is month 2 and already my husband has claimed this quilt.

4.  Prairie Flowers by Joe Morton

This month I got lots of practice sewing circles.

5.  Red and Green Blocks

Each month I put the blocks up on my design wall so I can see the blocks I already made and what fabrics I used so I don't make any duplicates.

These are the blocks I made this month.

6.  Finally my APQ UFO #11 for May

This month's UFO was Fig Tree Quilts Strawberry Mystery BOM.  I had completed 6 months of the patterns.  That left 6 to go.

The photo is not the best, but it will do for now.  The pattern called for a pieced border on the long sides.  I decided I was going to add a plain border all around the quilt.  I've ordered the fabric and I'll show a photo of it when finished.

I've been working on my Aviary block, but it was slow going.  I will have something to show you after my camping trip.

I hope you are having a great Memorial Day weekend.  Ours has been quiet and we will be celebrating when we go camping.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you found something you liked.

Hugs, Cathy

Hot July Projects

This has been a hot steamy month.  We've had storms with damaging winds and flooding conditions.  It was a good month for staying in my cool sewing room.

1.  July's Monthly Mini.

Sunflowers are my favorite flower.  I remember when my grandson was young we planted sunflowers in the backyard.  He was thrilled to see how tall they grew.

2.  Celebrating Mary Brown.

The photo is slightly blurry (must be the camera's fault...lol) I love this block.  I will add the button eyes when the quilt is all done.

3.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt.

Only one month to go.  It has been a long journey and I've been happy to have Julie traveling with me.  I can't believe we only have one more month.

4.  Home For the Holidays

I took a picture of these blocks before I've sewn them together  Three more months to go on this.

5.  Barbara Brackman's Ladies Aid.

This is the block for month four.  I've just started Month five.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I enjoy reading your comments.  I hope you are staying safe and healthy and enjoying some beautiful summer weather.

Hugs, Cathy

End of June Update

It has been hot, humid and rainy the last couple of weeks.  I've spent a lot of time in my cool basement sewing room.  I have a few things to share.

1.  June's Monthly Mini

I love how this turned out.  I didn't want to do it in red, white and blue.  These fabrics worked out for me.

2.  Celebrating Mary Brown

The original block for this month was a bit too complicated for me so I chose instead to make a pieced block.  July's block is going to be an owl.  I can't wait.

3.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt

This month's pieced and appliqued block.  I can't believe Julie and I are almost done with this sewalong.  Only 4 more blocks to make.  I can't wait.

4.  A Finish

This quilt is a pattern by Cheri Payne called "Forget me Not".  I finished the top a few years ago and decided I wanted to finish it.

I have kept up with all my BOM's, and BOW's but didn't want to bore you with all the photos.  I will share a few.  With summer finally here we are hoping to do some camping.  We are going camping with my daughter Kelley for the 4th of July weekend.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I appreciate your comments.

Hugs, Cathy

Keeping busy

And trying to keep cool.  It's been crazy hot and humid here.  With no central air I have been sewing in the basement and it is a lot more comfortable.

Well it's the end of the month and time to share some more projects.

1.  Celebrating Mary Brown

The sunflowers were suppose to have spiky edges.  I chose a more relaxed curve.  This is the bottom left block of the four corner blocks for the end of the first 2 rows.  I have all four sewn together and will finish them up for August.

2.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt.

I'm working on this quilt with Julie.  We are just doing 2 blocks a month.  These blocks are 8". The pattern calls for 6" blocks and Julie is making 10" blocks.

3.  3030 Block of the week.

One week we made 4 of the same block, the stars.  Then just one.  I still have the block for last week to do.  It's an appliqued block.

4.  Derby House BOM

Here are the pieced blocks.  I still have to make the applique block for this month.  It is 14" square and is of a house, dog, wagon, and vines.  It is very elaborate so I'm taking my time with it so I get it right.

5.  Monthly Mini

This is a 12" mini quilt.  I didn't get one made last month.

6.  Quilts for Christmas gifts.

This is in progress.  It's all cut out just waiting for me to sew.

I finished sewing this top together.  I need to figure out a backing and how to quilt it.  I love how it turned out.

That is about it as far as sewing.  The rest of the time I have going for check-ups with my various doctors.  Because of covid all my appointments were pushed back.  Two weeks ago I saw my Radiation Oncologist.  Last week I saw my Oncologist.  Monday I saw my family Doctor.  Friday I go for a mammogram and ultra sound.  Next month I get my eyes checked and have an appointment with the Medicare Wellness Nurse.  Whew.....The only time I get out of the house is to see a doctor.  So far all my check ups and tests have been good.  Once I'm done next month it will start all over in 6 month.

I did manage to go to the grocery store yesterday.  It is the first time I've gone shopping since covid.  Thankfully the store wasn't crowded.  I filled my cart and headed for the check out.  All of a sudden there was an announcement saying the registers were down.  After 45 minutes they got 2 registers up and running.  They stopped allowing customers coming in to the store.  With only 2 registers running it took about another 20 minutes before I got out of the store.  They had to shut down the 2 registers so they could reboot all of them.  I don't think I'll be going back for a while....lol

I hope you are all well and keeping safe.  Thanks so much for stopping by.

I'm so Behind

Time just flew by and put me so behind on projects.  The 30th of the month is time for sharing progress on Celebrating Mary Brown.  Unfortunately I have nothing to share.  I've been moving parts of my sewing room to the basement and that took time away from sewing.

Be sure to stop by to see what the following quilters are up to KarenJennie,  RobinNanette, and Rebecca.

I did manage to finish a few things.

1.  Mrs. Lincoln's Quilt.

These are the blocks for Month 9.  I can't believe I've been working on this for so long.

These are the first 9 months worth of blocks sewn together.  I am using the same pink for the corner stones but I am using a different neutral fabric for the sashing.

I'm working on this quilt with Julie.

2.  Derby House BOM

These are the pieced blocks.  There is also a 15" appliqued block which I am about 3/4 of the way done.  As soon as I finish I will post a picture.

3.  Monthly Mini

This is my May mini.  It is 6" x 7".  I really love it.  I'm linking up with Wendy.

4.  I made a new quilt top.

This photo is only a portion of it.  I'll post a photo of the finished top later.  It reminds me of Salt Water Taffy.  It's made using Jelly Rolls.  I didn't realize that it is the same fabric that I am using in the Providence BOM.

I also got the rainbow quilt quilted.  I still need to take a photo of it.  I have my next top to be quilted picked out.  I think this one will be hand quilted.

Our state has finally said we could get together in groups of no more than 10 people.  We got to go over to my Daughter's house and have a BBQ.  It was nice to see some of my family.

I hope you are staying safe and getting some sewing done.  Thanks so much for stopping by.
