September Destination Inspiration - Arriving At Terminal 2

Hello and welcome to the second Destination Inspiration for September.  Tracy here with you today with our set of ingredients for September.

This month we are using the following products:

Product : Gesso
Technique : Any form of Resist
Colour : Olive Green
Substrate : Chipboard

I opted to create a card this month for a loved one. I don't often use Olive Green so this made a lovely change to step away from my usual colour choices.
I began by placing the Tim Holtz Chevron Layering Stencil onto a piece of white card (4.5" x 6.5") and I then dabbed Gesso over the stencil using a piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam.
Remove the stencil and then dry the Gesso with a heat tool.
I found the perfect colour 'Olive Waistcoat' by IndigoBlu for my background. I simply brayered the paint over the Gesso'd background and then I used a damp babywipe and removed the paint from the Gesso areas. The Gesso resists the paint perfectly.
Dry the card with a heat tool.
Paint a chipboard heart with 'Olive Waistcoat' paint, dabbing the paint onto the heart to add further texture and then dry the paint with a heat tool.
Place the Chevron Layering Stencil onto the chipboard heart and then dab Gesso over the stencil.
Apply 'Olive Waistcoat' Paint onto the background stamp from the On The Farm Stamp Set, dabbing the paint lightly onto the stamp using a piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam.
Stamp the background image onto a piece of fabric and then adhere the fabric onto the background of the card.
Ink the Simple Sayings Sentiment with Black Archival Ink and stamp onto the chipboard heart.
I adhered the heart to the card adding cotton threads behind for added texture. I also included a circular piece of rusty wire stapled into place using my Tiny Attacher.
I also included a smaller chipboard heart for further interest.
I added a couple of lengths of decorative tape and a sentiment from one of Tim Holtz tapes. I also added some delicate splatters of white paint.
I added a touch more stamping using the same background stamp, this time with Black Archival Ink.
I love how all the layers are visible and the Gesso Resist in the background really lifts the whole design.
I also added some paint lines around the edges of my card using black paint and an old credit card and also included a couple of Index Clips for added interest.

July Destinations Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal 2

Hello and welcome to Terminal 2 of our Destination Inspiration posts for July. We have a wonderful array of travel ingredients for you this month:

Product - Flower Dies
Technique - Any Marbeling Technique
Colour - Purple
Substrate - Glossy Card

Here is what I have created for the second leg of our journey:

I decorated one of Tim Holtz Etcetera tags using the paint marbeling technique.
I began by adding Dusty Concord, Seedless Preserves and Twisted Citron Distress Paint to a Non-Stick Craft Sheet and then spritzing the paint with water. I only added a small drop of Seedless Preserves as this colour is quite strong.
Make sure the paints are nice and fluid.
I drew around the Etcetera tag onto a piece of glossy card, cut out the shape and then swiped my cut out piece through the beads of paint. Look how the paints marble, I love this technique.
I spritzed the paint with water, I love the effect. I tried not to add too many layers of paint as I wanted the marbling to be visible and some white space still remaining.
Now onto my layers for my design. I coloured a piece of cheesecloth with Wilted Violet Distress Ink to tone with my background and then dried with a heat tool and scrunched the cloth whilst drying.
I added a picture to a Tim Baroque Frame, the glue was still visible at this stage as I take time to play around with the composition. I added five random pieces of Chatter Design tape to the background along with some Texture Paste through the Trellis Layering Stencil to add yet a further layer of interest.
At this stage I decided I was happy with the composition and began to layer my elements.I die cut a Wildflower using Tim's Wildflowers #2 Thinlits Die, I cut from black card which I though worked well against the more colourful backdrop.
I added some Bouquet pieces, the white giving a contrast to the other colours. I also applied Twisted Citron and Wilted Violet Distress Crayon to the stencilled areas.
Some twisted silver wire adds further dimension and interest and I added a touch of Twisted Citron Distress Paint to my frame, applying with my finger.
A few delicate splatters of black paint and delicate scratchy lines around the edges.
'Hope is never lost' Quote Chip and random Remnant Rubs complete my design.
I hope you have enjoyed the second leg of our journey for July.

I hope I have given you a little inspiration to play along with the travel ingredients. We will have stage three of our journey next Monday and if you would like to see Terminal One of our journey, please stop by HERE.

New Monthly Challenge - All Squared Up

Hello and welcome! - Tracy here, hosting our new challenge for A Vintage Journey.

Our theme is 'All Squared Up'

Whether a frame, embellishment, die cuts, drawn square, doodles, or windows, let's see where inspiration takes you, let's get all squared up and show how creative those right angles can look!

Show us your squared up pieces in a vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk style.

Once again we have a generous sponsor this month - Tando Creative
who are offering an MDF package for the randomly drawn winner.

The Creative Guides also pick their Top 3 who become our Pinworthies who have their work pinned in our PINTEREST gallery, this could be you next month.

So let's see how we have all interpreted this theme to provide you with a little inspiration:

Tracy

I opted to decorate one of Tim's Etcetera tags this month adding lots of layers and texture to give a wonderfully tactile piece. If you would like to see how I incorporated all those layers and right angles, please pop by my BLOG.

Canvas with Dina Wakely Paints by Nikki Acton
I took the theme very literally with this composition of stencilled squares on my large square canvas! More details on how I did this today at Addicted to Art.
I think you can see I'm pretty much all squared up with my canvases on reverse canvas. The only thing that's not square is my butterfly! If you would like to see the details, please stop by my blog.

For Tracy's challenge I turned a square wooden seedling box into a tea light holder, you can see lots more detail over on my blog.

For my 'All Squared Up' project, I stamped and stenciled on vintage linen napkins found in an antique shop using Archival Inks.
Please stop by my blog here for more details on how I stenciled these pretty 'SQUARE' linen napkins and to see the products I used.

Tracy's prompt of 'All Squared Up' led me down a very graphic path this month, it's not a style that I create in often but have to say I love the result!  I've a few step out pictures on my blog on how I created my Geometry Squared mixed media canvas, hope you can pop by for the how to.

I've 'Squared up' a mini Note Journal and created a geometric patterned cover for this months Challenge.  Please feel free to pop by my blog to find out more......

Brenda
Squares - we all use them but do you think I could think of a different way to use them for this project? It took me ages!!! But I got there, in fact if this was a puzzle I'd say I can see 40 squares, so I'm sure I've met the theme challenge for my CG piece. See those tiny squares in the background well they are all cut from larger ones and each can be seen over at Bumblebees and Butterflies if you'd like more information about them. Thanks Tracy for a great challenge. xxxx

I hope we have inspired you and we look forward to seeing your creations this month. You can link up your entries below for a chance of becoming a Pinworthy or to receive our sponsor's prize.

April Destination Inspiration - Arriving At Terminal 1

Welcome to the first leg of our journey for April. Tracy here arriving at Terminal 1 with a fabulous list of ingredients for our travel bag:

Product - Distress Inks/Paints
Technique - Stencil Monoprinting
Colour - Green
Substrate - MDF

I thought long and hard about this challenge and opted to alter one of Tim Holtz Etcetera thickboard tags, the smallest from the set of three. The thickboard is my faux MDF as I had not actually got any MDF anywhere in my stash, so artistic licence and all that!
I have quite a few step by steps for this tags as I added many layers during the process.
I began by painting the tag with Distress Paint Cracked Pistachio. I then cut three strips of card to add to the tag. My idea behind this was to add texture and interest in the background. I then painted the tag and the strips of paper with a second coat of paint.
I then painted Peacock Feathers Distress Paint onto a scrap of white card.
I then pressed the card onto the painted background. The reason I applied the paint this way was to give a more random feel to the background. I often apply inks this way and its a fabulous way to add delicate layers of paint.
I then dried the layers of paint and repeated the same process once more.
For my next layer I opted for some stencil monoprinting; applying Black Soot Distress Ink to Tim's numeric stencil. Remember to ink the reverse of the stencil so that the numbers appear the correct way when added to the tag.
Spritz the inked stencil with water.
Place the stencil, inked side down and then press with a piece of kitchen towel to ensure good contact.
I love the black inking against the green and blue background.
Repeat the same process and then dry the ink with a heat tool.
Next I played around with ideas for the focal image and I opted for a small embroidery hoop which I painted with a wash of Peacock Feathers Distress Paint and then dried with a heat tool.
At this stage I decided to hold fire on adding the focal point and added some shading to the edges of the strips of card and to the edges of the tag, scribbling Salty Ocean Distress Crayon around the edges and then smudging with my finger.
I applied DecoArt Media Titanium White Fluid Acrylic over Tim Holtz Mini Nordic Layering Stencil to add a further layer of interest.
I love adding layers to my designs and I continued with the layering process, adding some Design Tape from Tim's new release called Chatter.
I like to add my layers in odd numbers as much as possible as I love the look and feel of odd numbers in artwork.
I then added my focal image, the embroidery hoop and opted to add a fabulous Paper Doll to the frame.
I inked Tim Holtz Cling Foam Stamps Block Lower Case with Peacock Feathers Distress Paint, applying with a piece of Cut 'n' Dry Foam.
I also added touches of Picket Fence Distress Paint.
This gave me tone on tone lettering which I could then highlight further with a black Pitt Pen later in the layering process.
I went back to the scrap of white card I added paint to earlier and then die cut some Mini Tattered Florals from the card.
At this stage I decided that I wanted three die cut flowers.
I added a small amount of Twisted Citron Distress Paint to my non-stick craft sheet and then dipped the rolled flowers into the paint to cover some of the petals lightly with paint to add texture.
I repeated the same process for all three flowers. Now that I was happy with all my layers I then began to add the finishing touches to my design.
I added the flowers to the side of my focal piece and I also added delicate splatters of white paint for further interest.
I added one of Tim's Quote Chips to the centre of my embroidery hoop.
From this picture you can clearly see all the layers I have added to my design.
I added some black pen markings to my lettering and to the edges of my tag and also included some delicate dots of white paint.
I love how the embroidery hoop has a woodgrain finish that is clearly visible under the wash of paint.
Thanks so much for stopping by, hope you enjoyed my step by steps. Please pop back next Monday for the next leg of our journey.
