Destination Inspiration, terminal 4

Well  Trace here from inkypinkycraft, and for this months destination Inspiration...my fellow Creative Guides and myself have chosen four Tim Goodies for this journey...these are :

1. Product - Alcohol Inks
2. Technique - Alcohol Ink Ombré CC Vol 3, Page 57
3. Colour - Butterscotch
4. Substrate - Metal Foil Tape

So here is where these ingredients have taken me, on this journey at Terminal 4...

I couldn't resist playing with Halloween , and I love this Tim Holtz skull - I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new one out... So here is what I did .. I decided to create a layered tag...something I love to do as you have lots of room to create detail and yummy layers of Tim yumminess.

The large tag was for the base layer, I used alcohol ink card for my ombre and some foil tape added to a smaller tag #8 for the middle layer.

I added some colours of alcohol ink to a test piece before following Tim's instructions in Compendium as in ingredients to create my ombre effect..

I had torn the paper which ended up allowing the ink to soak into card giving a dark stripe but I quite liked it...

Again using the alcohol ink ..and for the foil tape part, I covered the smaller tag and embossed using damask texture fade, I then applied some butterscotch and also slate inks to the surface .

I then rubbed the surface with black soot paint dabber, and left for a few seconds before rubbing away some of it (sorry forgot the photo!)

Now to grunge up the ombre piece, I took out my trusty sanding grip and lightly sanded some areas..

And then applied some walnut stain distress ink which highlights the scuffed areas

For the large tag I coloured the tag using fossilized amber distress ink, which matched the butterscotch colour of the alcohol ink..and then applied some hickory smoke through this fab gothic layering stencil in small areas

To complete the base tag I scuffed edges, added some of the new and old tissue tape for Halloween and inked edges.

I then added the foil covered tag ..and more tissue tape..I love builidng up my layers ..

I added some rub ons...you need to make sure the distress ink is completely dry...and this takes a while or heat dry..

I stamped the skull, in jet black archival onto the ombre panel and added to the top of all those layers..

I comleted the tag with some dyed seam binding..

And here is the completed tag...my destination for terminal 4

Well hope you like my make for today,
keep those fingers inky!

Spring Colours

Welcome everyone to our latest challenge and happy Mayday to you all!
To celebrate Spring (at least here in the Northern Hemisphere), I have chosen Spring Colours for our theme. The theme itself of course is fairly easy, but it is important to remember that this is a Tim Holtz inspired challenge, so when choosing our top 3 entries, we want to see Tim's influence clearly represented in your project. If you describe it in your post even better! You do not have to use Tim products, though his wonderful Distress range of course offers plenty of choice, but we do want to see that your project is inspired by one of his wonderful techniques that he so freely shares.
You can make anything you want, as long as it clearly follows our challenge rules. And if you want to double check, - just click HERE

Like usual, the team have prepared some inspiration pieces for you, so without further ado, here goes:

I am delighted to be challenge host this month and decided to use my favourite Spring Colours,  Yellows, Blues and Greens. Tim has so many wonderful Spring themed stamp sets right now, so I made some of them the focal point of my little canvas. To get more details all you need to do is hop over to my blog

The colours for my Spring palette butterfly were chosen when I was looking out of the window at the blossoms and flowers in the garden. I have used Tim's layered butterfly and cameo frame dies and a mixed media technique using oil pastels and distress stains to create the mottled effects on the butterfly wings.

I think we may see lots of butterflies for Astrid's Spring Colours challenge! I water colored mine using a water brush and Distress Markers trying to make her look like a Monarch butterfly and set her against a crackle paste stenciled brick wall where she is gathering its warmth!  If you would like more details on how I created my canvas, please stop by my blog post here

I know I'm dating myself with this term but couldn't resist using Tim's Bird Crazy Stamp Set for this canvas.  Some of us remember sharing a "party line" with our neighbors.  I hope you enjoy my combination of this colourful theme with party birds on a wire.  For more photos and details please stop by my blog My "Crafty" Life On The Internet.

For me, spring is full of vivid greens, the fresh blue of the sky (so uplifting after the grim greys of winter) and the delicate white of blossom; and I just love the dappled look of sunlight through the new growth of the re-awakening trees.  I've tried to capture some of that on my small canvas using texture paste, die-cuts, lots of Distress Sprays, glossy embossing, as well as inky shading and splatter.  Do come over to Words and Pictures if you'd like to see more.

I always know that Spring has arrived when the beautiful Star Magnolia in our garden bursts open it's buds into the most glorious display of flowers.  I have tried to emulate the flowers using Tim's Tattered Florals die and using the beautiful Spring colours of Cracked Pistachio and Abandoned Coral on my box.  You can see more on my blog here.

Astrid's choice of Spring Colors brings to my mind the wonderful birds that come out to play in my yard, along with the butterflies and lovely flowers! I decided to alter a burlap panel using a variety of products by Tim Holtz. For more details, please stop on over HERE.

What I love about spring here in Shetland are the light nights and the dramatic change in the colours of the sky, sea, sand and hills after the winter gloom. With these colours in mind I decided to alter a Cabinet Card Frame using Distress Inks and Wrinkle Free Distress Techniques and of course flowers made using the Tattered Florals Die. Please hop on over to my blog if you want to know more.

Spring colours and a spring theme for me this time using a number of Tim Holtz dies and plenty of inky and painty fun. I set my little piece on some painted corrugated card to create a shabby feel.
Be great to see you over at Addicted to Art where I will share the details today.

For me Spring Colours are bright colours from Daffodils, Tulip, Crocuses and Berries to name a few. A super challenge which took me out of my comfort zone of a soft muted palette. Love to have you pop over HERE to Juliz Design Post to see my project in detail.

To me the Spring is about the blossoming flowers and soft mellow sunshine that breaks through with its soft warmth and not yet intense heat and colour of the summer. So I created this piece using very unusually for me yellow, plenty of idea-ology and another of those gorgeous photo booth images. All the detail can be found on my blog here.

Using a mixture of techniques (Wrinkle free distress, Spritz and flick distress) as well as products such as Texture paste, Distress Stains etc) these combine with other brands to create this bright and colourful card.  This topic leaves so much to your imagination and creativity that we hope you'll join in this challenge!  More details can be found here. Well, I'm sure you'll agree with me, with 12 creative guides having contributed, there is plenty of inspiration here, and of course we hope you will decide to play along.
Just as a little reminder, our challenge is now a monthly one and one randomly chosen winner will receive a £20 gift voucher from our very generous sponsor, Country View Crafts. We will continue to have our Pinworthy blog badges for the Top 3, who will be chosen by the Creative Guides (DT).

You have until May 31st  at 6:00 pm GMT to link up your creation!

Destination Inspiration #3 - It's the small things ..

Well it is Trace (inkypinkycraft) here today to follow part 3 of the destination inspiration posts with Brenda and Anne before me, so using the same ingredients here is my stop on the destination inspiration journey :

Product - Distress Paint
Substrate - Canvas
Technique - Grungepaper flowers (Vol 1 of Tim's CC3C Book, page 65)
Colour  -  Picket Fence

I decided to use the inside of two canvas pieces to create a hinged piece, allowing me to decorate not only the front but the inside of the two canvas pieces too.

So here is the inside...

and here is how the two canvas were joined together ....

I will save the covers of this piece, or the outside of the canvas later on in the post..

To start I covered my canvas frames with tissue tape, to covered the join of where the canvas was stapled on ..

I extended the tape around the sides, careful not to overlap onto the front of the two pieces.

I then applied some picket fence distress paint to soften the detail of the tissue tape..

Continuing when the paint was dry with walnut stain distress ink and splatters of picket fence distress paint. I picked up the paint using a splatter brush from distress paint applied direct to my craft sheet and spritzed lightly with water.

Now for the fronts of the canvas... I started by applying some decoart media crackle paste through the latticework stencil..love this stencil so much!

I applied in areas on both of the canvas fronts.

I then applied some picket fence distress paint direct to my craft sheet and sprited, dabbing the canvas fronts into the paint..and allowing to dry .

When dried I sprized some pumice stone distress spray stain onto the top of the canvas , spritzed with water and allowed to drip , the heat dried .

When dry I added some walnut stain distress ink around the edges using a blending tool, it is amazing the difference these small touches make...and I think walnut stain distress ink makes anything and everything look better!

Now for the flowers, made using Tim's tutorial , Grungepaper flowers (Vol 1 of Tim's CC3C Book, page 65). I used various vintage papers and papers from Tim Holtz paper stash collections and edged the flowers in walnut stain distress ink.

To complete the flowers I added more splatters of picket fence distress stain and some of the idea-ology custom fastners.

To complete the covers..I added one of the pocket cards , cut into pieces and distressed and some sticky backed canvas leaves , die cut using spring greens die.

I love how the picket fence paint has resisted the distress stain spray in the background...and still think this is such a cool property of the distress paints that they react with water until dry and then are permanent.

Now ...for the inside...

I collected together elements from ephemera packs, pocket cards, idea-ology and distressed edges playing around until I was happy with the layout of the pieces. I added a photo booth photo to the centre of each collection. I tend to collect lots of pieces and then discard pieces that don't seem to fit..

here is the collection for the left hand side..

and here is the collection for the right hand side..

Now to finally add them to the inside of the canvas pieces ..

so to complete the left hand side some more grungepaper flowers and canvas leaves around the frame created by the inside edge of the canvas.

and the same for the right hand side ..

Finally to join the two pieces together I added an idea-ology hinge.

So hope you liked my make and make sure you stop back next week for another destination inspiration using the same recipe .

keep those fingers inky!
