Destination Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal 4

Hi Everyone, it's Julie here from Juliz Design Post and I'm delighted to be joining you on the final leg of our journey for this month. We have had stunning projects on our journey this month from Sandy, Astrid and Annie.
In our luggage this month are the following products and technique.
  • Product - Any Tim Holtz Stamps
  • Colour - Hickory Smoke
  • Technique - Spritz and Flick
  • Substrate - Card

My mum's neighbour celebrates her 80th Birthday next month. She used to be a Professional Ice Skater and still loves to make Floral Arrangements and always likes to wear pretty necklaces, so I gathered all this inspiration to make this card for her. So let me take you through the techniques on how I made it.

I started off with a sheet of Speciality Stamping Paper, blending my inks together, you will also notice my Spritz and Flick Technique. I polished my card with a Muslin Cloth to buff my embossed areas.

I distressed the edges and added some Gilding Wax, I  Zig Zagged and Straight stitched around my card with my Sewing machine.

My Sizzix Frame - once the paint was dry I rubbed in my ink to highlight the crackles and rubbed over with a little Gilding Wax.

My Tattered Rose and Cheery Lynn Rose Leaves were made up and I sprinkled a little Embossing Powder onto the Petals and heat set.

I Stained my lace and Muslin.

I cut out two of Cheery Lynn's Tiny Italian Flourish Doily and making  a Rosette by joining them together in a concertina style. My 80 was built up with a few layers of Embossing Powder to give a chunky look to them, layering onto a small circle and some Muslin.

My Sizzix Ice Skates were cut out in White Cardstock, I shaded the heel with Copic Pens and used Silver Embossing Powder on the blades with a touch of Glossy Accents onto the base of the blade to mimic ice melting. I pierced holes onto my boots and threaded in some Embroidery thread.

And finally the photo again of my finished card.

And a collective look at of the previous weeks of this months DI posts.

Design Inspiration October Terminal 3

Hi, to all our Vintage Journey Travellers, it's JULIE here today with the next leg of our journey for this month. Hopefully you will feel inspired with my project to make a start on some Christmas crafting.

In our travel bag this month are :
Product : Distress Stain Spray
Technique : Layering Stencil Embossing ( from Compendium of Curiosities Page 50 )
Colour : Hickory Smoke
Substrate : Tag

So let's get started :

I always find working on tags rather challenging with the dimension and space you are given and recently when I was at Wendy Vecchi's workshop she said she trims her tags down to help balance them and I must admit I find them a lot easier this way.

I started off with one size 12 tag and two size 8 Manilla tags. I trimmed them all to 5 inches in height, tattered my edges and applied Tim's tape to both sides.

Using my Brick stencil I applied Distress ink to both sides of my Tags using Hickory Smoke, Rusty Hinge and Ground Expresso. Next I heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

I now stamped a little gesso to act as another resist for extra detail.

Now spraying on my Hickory Smoke Distress Stain. Notice how it resists over my heat embossed bricks and Gesso and gives a look of cement between the bricks.

I now stamped my Snowman with Black Archival Ink. At this stage I also scattered Chunky White Embossing heat setting from behind.

My Sizzix Snowman stamp and die set was stamped in Archival ink and die cut out. I shaded with Distress pens, adding Snowtex along the base and onto my Snowman in parts with a layer of extra fine Glitter over it for added sparkle.

My Cheery Lynn Icicles I sprayed with glue adding extra fine glitter. Next adding a little Iced Spruce Distress ink to the edges and a little Glossy Accents for an icy effect to finish.

I stamped my sentiment, tearing around the cardstock to reveal the core and adding some Ground Expresso Distress ink, finishing off with my Holly Leaves and Cheery Lynn Poinsettia.

My Sizzix Pine Cones were cut out in Kraft cardstock and inked at the edges. My Sizzix Deer I stamped some texture on to it and added Snowtex, glitter and embossing powder. My Pine Branch is made from a Cheery Lynn die and I added some Flower Soft Snow. My 25 was heat embossed with Red Tinsel Embossing powder to add more sparkle.

Finally finishing with some ribbon.

And a final view of the reverse side.

I do hope you have enjoyed my post today and feel inspired to try out some of my techniques I used on this project.

Destination Inspiration - Departing from Terminal 1

Hi Fellow Travellers, it's Julie from Juliz Design Post here. Lovely to have you joining me on our monthly journey.
This month my fellow Creative Guides and myself have chosen four 'Tim Goodies' for this journey which are -

1. Product - Alcohol Inks
2. Technique - Alcohol Ink Ombré CC Vol 3, Page 57
3. Colour - Butterscotch
4. Substrate - Metal Foil Tape

Using all of the above elements this is how my project came together.

Starting with the Umbrella Man I placed my Metal Foil Tape on to Cereal Box card, die cut him out and ran through my Embossing Folder. Using my applicator tool I added my Alcohol Ink followed by some Distress Paint, letting it dry slightly before polishing with a rag to buff it up.

Next I glued some Correspondence Paper to cardboard and die cut out my Postage Stamp die, adding some Stamping for interest, a couple of Screw Brads and Industrious Stickers. You will also notice I added a little Distress Paint around the edges, this draws your eyes into the middle of my Frame.

In this photo you will see my complimentary colours of Alcohol Ink used to give my Ombré effect. I placed each colour separately onto my Alcohol Ink Applicator Tool applying it on to my Speciality Stamping Paper. Once I was happy with the shades I then blended with Alcohol Blending Solution.

Next stage was to stamp my Sentiment and layer up my Cogs stamping with first and second generation ink.

Another photo of my finished project.

I hope you have enjoyed my post and feel inspired to try out these techniques. Our Current Challenge for this month is Things with Wings and next Monday you will see another Creative Guide using the same products and techniques at Terminal 2.

Thanks for stopping by and for all the wonderful comments you leave for us, we all appreciate them so much.

Arriving at Terminal 2

Hello, it's Julie from Juliz Design Post here with you today. Lovely to have you visit on my part of this journey.

Travelling this month in our travel trunk is the crafty must haves-

1. Product - Any 'Classics' Stamp set.
2. Technique - Shabby Chic - CC Vol 1, Page 49
3. Colour - Antique Linen
4. Substrate - Tag

Using all of the above elements this is what I came up with....

I started by adding a coat of Black Gesso onto a Black Tag to give it a Prime. Once dry I used Classics #3 stamping with Versamark ink and heat setting with Clear Embossing powder. Next I painted over the entire surface with Antique Linen Distress Paint. Misting a paper towel with water I rubbed over my damp paint to reveal a Shabby Look. Finally mounting onto a Manilla Tag  with the edges distressed.

Using a Manilla tag I stamped Classics #6 in Black Archival Ink and heat embossed with Clear ink, fussy cutting around the edges. I stamped little splatters on using Antique Linen Distress Paint  and distressed the edges with Antique Linen and a little Black Soot. Adding some stitching, staples and chit chat stickers for detail.

My clock was made using the Sizzix Movers and Shapers die. I pressed Versamark ink onto the outer frame of the watch and added a mix of Silver Embossing Powder with Verdigris and Vintage Photo Distress Powder. Once heat embossed I rubbed a little Black Soot Distress paint on and off. The clock face was stamped with a cog stamp onto Black card and heat embossed with Silver. Adding my Idealogy I then filled with a generous layer of Glossy Accents.

My Time Travelling Gent was stamped in Archival and shaded with Distress Pens, fussy cut and his key charms added to his hand for detail.

Another pic of my finished tag.

Hope you have enjoyed my post today and feel inspired to incorporate one of these techniques into your project for our current challenge - Destinations. All the details are on the sidebar.

Happy Crafting,

Julie x

Spring Colours

Welcome everyone to our latest challenge and happy Mayday to you all!
To celebrate Spring (at least here in the Northern Hemisphere), I have chosen Spring Colours for our theme. The theme itself of course is fairly easy, but it is important to remember that this is a Tim Holtz inspired challenge, so when choosing our top 3 entries, we want to see Tim's influence clearly represented in your project. If you describe it in your post even better! You do not have to use Tim products, though his wonderful Distress range of course offers plenty of choice, but we do want to see that your project is inspired by one of his wonderful techniques that he so freely shares.
You can make anything you want, as long as it clearly follows our challenge rules. And if you want to double check, - just click HERE

Like usual, the team have prepared some inspiration pieces for you, so without further ado, here goes:

I am delighted to be challenge host this month and decided to use my favourite Spring Colours,  Yellows, Blues and Greens. Tim has so many wonderful Spring themed stamp sets right now, so I made some of them the focal point of my little canvas. To get more details all you need to do is hop over to my blog

The colours for my Spring palette butterfly were chosen when I was looking out of the window at the blossoms and flowers in the garden. I have used Tim's layered butterfly and cameo frame dies and a mixed media technique using oil pastels and distress stains to create the mottled effects on the butterfly wings.

I think we may see lots of butterflies for Astrid's Spring Colours challenge! I water colored mine using a water brush and Distress Markers trying to make her look like a Monarch butterfly and set her against a crackle paste stenciled brick wall where she is gathering its warmth!  If you would like more details on how I created my canvas, please stop by my blog post here

I know I'm dating myself with this term but couldn't resist using Tim's Bird Crazy Stamp Set for this canvas.  Some of us remember sharing a "party line" with our neighbors.  I hope you enjoy my combination of this colourful theme with party birds on a wire.  For more photos and details please stop by my blog My "Crafty" Life On The Internet.

For me, spring is full of vivid greens, the fresh blue of the sky (so uplifting after the grim greys of winter) and the delicate white of blossom; and I just love the dappled look of sunlight through the new growth of the re-awakening trees.  I've tried to capture some of that on my small canvas using texture paste, die-cuts, lots of Distress Sprays, glossy embossing, as well as inky shading and splatter.  Do come over to Words and Pictures if you'd like to see more.

I always know that Spring has arrived when the beautiful Star Magnolia in our garden bursts open it's buds into the most glorious display of flowers.  I have tried to emulate the flowers using Tim's Tattered Florals die and using the beautiful Spring colours of Cracked Pistachio and Abandoned Coral on my box.  You can see more on my blog here.

Astrid's choice of Spring Colors brings to my mind the wonderful birds that come out to play in my yard, along with the butterflies and lovely flowers! I decided to alter a burlap panel using a variety of products by Tim Holtz. For more details, please stop on over HERE.

What I love about spring here in Shetland are the light nights and the dramatic change in the colours of the sky, sea, sand and hills after the winter gloom. With these colours in mind I decided to alter a Cabinet Card Frame using Distress Inks and Wrinkle Free Distress Techniques and of course flowers made using the Tattered Florals Die. Please hop on over to my blog if you want to know more.

Nikki
Spring colours and a spring theme for me this time using a number of Tim Holtz dies and plenty of inky and painty fun. I set my little piece on some painted corrugated card to create a shabby feel.
Be great to see you over at Addicted to Art where I will share the details today.

Julie
For me Spring Colours are bright colours from Daffodils, Tulip, Crocuses and Berries to name a few. A super challenge which took me out of my comfort zone of a soft muted palette. Love to have you pop over HERE to Juliz Design Post to see my project in detail.

To me the Spring is about the blossoming flowers and soft mellow sunshine that breaks through with its soft warmth and not yet intense heat and colour of the summer. So I created this piece using very unusually for me yellow, plenty of idea-ology and another of those gorgeous photo booth images. All the detail can be found on my blog here.

Using a mixture of techniques (Wrinkle free distress, Spritz and flick distress) as well as products such as Texture paste, Distress Stains etc) these combine with other brands to create this bright and colourful card.  This topic leaves so much to your imagination and creativity that we hope you'll join in this challenge!  More details can be found here.
