Creative Card Making with Ann

Hi Everyone and Welcome

It's Ann from Ann Chuang Crafts here with you today as we head out on the last leg of September's journey with our regular "Creative Card Making" post. I always make cards for family and friends, so I’m pleased to be sharing an insect card that I made for my son. He is very interested in insects and expects to become an entomologist in the future. I want to encourage him to work hard for his dreams.

It all started with some wrinkle-free distressing... all Distress Oxides, no Inks to start with. There're pumice stone and vintage photo in the mix. 

When the watercolor paper dry enough, I stamped Handwritten correspondence on it by Distress Ink hickory smoke. Then cut an oval from the paper and distressed the edges with Distress Ink walnut stain.

And then, with some wrinkle-free distressing again...all Distress Oxides. There're wilted violet, iced spruce, broken china and faded jeans. This time I use black paper to make a background, I love the effect so much.

 I used tangled twigs die from Tim Holtz. The tangled twigs piece adhered to the background. 

I used Tim Holtz Entomology dies and stamps. I have to say...I love this stamp set, there're lots of creepy, cool and beautiful bugs plus an awesome background script stamp. 

To create these bugs… I stamped them in Intense Black onto white paper. Then lined up the corresponding bug die and taped it down with some washi tape. After they were cut, I colored them with some Copic Markers and used Glossy Accents to dress them up a bit.

Creative Card making with Annie

Hi everyone x It's Annie here with you today as we head out on the last leg of July's journey with our regular "Creative Card Making" post.

Below is the finished card, which I will use for a forthcoming birthday of a close family member x

 The card measures 8.1/4 inches by 4.5 inches and the front panel measures 4.1/4 inches by 8 inches

The papers used  are from the Time is an Illusion pad by Stamperia. I distressed the edges with Tim Holtz Distressing tool. The card was then inked with Worn Lipstick, Fossilized Amber, Broken China and Bundles Sage DIO's, which blended beautifully together. Some water  was spritzed in to my hand before flicking it on to the DOI's, before dabbing with paper towel. 

I planned to turn back the stamperia paper, therefore I stitched  on a button from my stash to ensure it remained in place. Some ribbon flowers from The Paper Garden were adhered on to the card stock.

I cut a tag out from the Stamperia papers as I wanted to write a personal message that I could place within the pocket on the front of the card. A few circles from the same papers  were cut out and adhered on to the front of the tag.

A mini doily  was adhered to the card after ageing with Vintage Photo DI. (my all time favourite x)

 You can see the tag sitting in the wee pocket. Now to adorn the front of my card.

I love the texture of this woven twine and after careful consideration adhered it using double sided tape.

 A large die cut Doily was aged with Vintage Photo and then I cut out a circle of the Stamperia papers using my 2.5 inch punch.

A piece of hessian ribbon was adhered below the mini doily, top left. One of Tim Holtz Scroll Dies was inked with Worn Lipstick DIO, then finally the large circle of Stamperia paper was applied.

Two pieces of lace from Paper Garden were subsequently adhered to the bottom of the card and along the bottom of the fold.

Using Tim Holtz punch 4 butterflies were cut out and edged with Vintage Photo DI, some Idea-ology spinners were then adhered.

 Once the glue was dry I raised the butterfly wings a little, which you can see below.

Creative Card Making with Alison

Hello all, it's Alison here with this month's Creative Card Making post.  Regulars over at Words and Pictures will know I almost never make cards.  For some reason I find them very difficult to get going with.  But a Creative Card Making post requires a card, so here it is...

For this, I borrowed my inspiration from a tag I made in which I borrowed inspiration from one of my fellow Creative Guides, the lovely Jennie of Live the Dream.  And at three removes of inspiration, I found that it wasn't so hard to make a card after all!

I started with a pre-cut kraft card and envelope, 6x6 inches, and gave it a rough coat of gesso as a base.

Over that, I added some Idea-ology Tissue Tape and Design Tape strips and then smeared some DecoArt Crackle Paint in places.  (I know I took photos as I was going, but my camera seems to be playing up, and decided not to keep them.)

Over the dried crackle, I added dribbles of Distress Stain in Weathered Wood and Stormy Sky...

... and I smeared some Peeled Paint DI and Shabby Shutters DOxide onto my craft mat, spritzed with water, and added that to the mix too.

I chose those colours to go with the tag I cut the Tim Holtz flower out of.

This one is from the Wildflower Stems #2 set.

I'd done some wrinkle-free distressing with those colours onto the tag, and had just enough to be able to cut the strips of paper lace too.

This is one of the two designs from the Lace Thinlits set released a couple of years ago.

Most of my butterfly Design Tape had become invisible under the crackle, so I added some more of that...

... as well as some actual lace from Tim's Idea-ology Lace Trimmings.

There's a bit of script stamping done in Stormy Sky Oxide.

And I used the leftover blobs from cutting the lace to add some extra detailing.

A few ivory sequins dotted around catch the light rather nicely.

And the Idea-ology Quote Chip gives me the necessary words to finish things off.

In the end, I really like this mixed-media card.  And it's flat enough to go through the post without extra charges!
