Creative Card Making with Autumn

Welcome!  Autumn with you today to share our October Creative Card Making tutorial.  I was in the mood to do something messy and wild and created this very rustic, organic card for you.

I started off by gluing some torn Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap to a square watercolor panel with Matte Glue and Seal.  I scraped DecoArt crackle paste over the surface and let it air dry, then came back in and watercolored the panel with Antique Linen Distress Oxide and Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I distressed the edges of the panel then dipped the rim into watery Vintage Photo to provide some contrast.

Next, I gathered my elements, to include two die cuts from the new Tim Holtz Skeleton Leaves and two from the old Wallflowers 2.  I sponged these with Distress Inks as shown using Rusty Hinge, Crushed Olive and Vintage Photo.  I grabbed some handmade flowers I made with the Tattered Florals die and the Large Daisy punch.  The Scroll die was painted with Adirondack Butterscotch paint and dipped in Rusty Hinge.

Here's a close up of the layers...

I tucked sisal fibers beneath the flowers.  Check out that crackle...

I added a Handwritten Love die above a stamped scrap, which I cut into a banner.

I splashed the card with green Perfect Pearls spray for interest.  I hope you've enjoyed this project and are inclined to play along in our Autumn Splendour Challenge, where you will find loads more inspiring makes.  Thanks for visiting today, Autumn

Destination Inspiration - Terminal 2 with Autumn

Hi there!  Autumn here, arriving at Destination Inspiration with a lovely travel bag of goodies to play with.  Here's what we've packed:

Product: Sprays
Technique: Stamping
Colour: Blue & Brown
Substrate: Wood or Chipboard

I went to my favorite substrate, this altered address book to which I added chipboard pages to make into an art journal.

I must confess, I was right at home with these colors and products.  Stamping is my favorite thing and I tend to lean towards a blue/green palette - always with the addition of browns.

I removed my pages from the binder gave a rough brushing of gesso.  I stenciled the Small Wildflowers stencil by Darkroom Door onto my pages, with Liquitex light modeling paste.  I love this paste for working with sprays because it soaks up the color and leaves such beautiful contrast.  I was anxious to see how Lindy's Stamp Gang Flat Fabio sprays would work over sponged Distress Oxides, so I sponged on some color roughly.  I sprayed over the blue DOX with Lindy's Danny Zuko's Denim and spritzed with a little water to let the color bleed down the page.  I turned the pages upside down and spritzed the bottom with Lindy's Sandra Dee Sepia and let it bleed into the blue.

Because my stenciling wasn't dry, I accidentally scraped off a portion of one of the flowers.  I decided to scrape off each other flower to make highlights and really liked this look - happy accidents!  :)

I perched a the house stamp from the Darkroom Door Home Sweet Home set atop the tallest flower.  I added two die cut Prima leaves and a die cut Tim Holtz Wildflower die cut.

I blended the wildflower die cut with the stenciling.  Here you can see where the spray colors meet.

The Tim Holtz paper dolls, layered over Tim Holtz doily die, remind me of my Grandma and her oldest sister.  There were 13 children in the family living on a farm.  When Pearl, the oldest child, went to work at the local mill they were able to buy flour for bread and shoes for the first times in their lives.  When they were much older, they loved fashion, after being raised so poor.  But their hearts were always humble and grounded.

I stamped the Gazette texture stamp in the background in DOX and spritzed it to get that faded look.  I used one of the $1 alphabet stamp sets to add the text.  I really like how the DOX changed the properties of the sprays and I was able to get the beautiful "spritz and fleck" look.

I hope you're getting inspired by Terminal One with Alison and today's stop.  Join us next Monday for even more ideas with this month's travel bag contents.  And don't forget our current challenge, Think Inside or Outside the Box.  One lucky participant will win a $25 gift certificate to the Funkie Junkie Boutique.  We truly hope you will play along.

September Destination Inspiration - Arriving At Terminal 3

Hello and welcome to the third Destination Inspiration for September.  Autumn with you today to guide you along the journey with the contents of our travel bag.

Our bag this month is filled with goodness:

Product : Gesso
Technique : Any form of Resist
Colour : Olive Green
Substrate : Chipboard

I decided to play along with our current challenge, Altered Art.  At my job we were all given these lime green journals as gifts from a recent conference.  I thought it would be fun to grunge it up and give it a face lift.

I painted my cover with clear gesso, then layered a couple of olive green paints over it.  I sanded the edges to let a little of the original color show through, then stenciled a pattern with Archival Ink and a sponge.

Next, I cut a watercolor panel and embossed this amazing image from the new PaperArtsy Lynne Perrella Collection.  I partially stamped and embossed the script from the stamp below (also LPC) randomly on the perimeter of my panel.  I blended Distress Inks around the face.  In the end, I was unhappy with the embossed face, so I restamped in Versamark Sepia onto tissue paper and carefully adhered over the first image, sponging the edges to coordinate.  The sentiment is by 7Dots.

I embossed this gorgeous chipboard from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts in copper.  I used Distress Glaze to seal my stamped panel, then applied crackle paste along the edges of the adhered panel.  I wanted to use permanent inks since this will be handled, so I used ColorBox Chalk ink directly to the crackle once it had set.

The ribbon bookmark and elastic closure were both so bright!  I mixed Infusions with water and carefully painted them.

Here's a little closeup of the textures and embossing resist...

And the finished product, simple, but filled with pattern and texture.  I hope you like it and are inspired to play in our Altered Art challenge.  Join us next Monday for Terminal 4...

Thank you for visiting today!

July Destinations Inspiration - Arriving at Terminal 1

Hello and welcome to the first Destination Inspiration of July.  Autumn of SewPaperPaint with you today to guide you along with the contents of our July travel bag.

Product - Flower Dies
Technique - Any Marbling Technique
Color - Purple
Substrate - Glossy Card

I came across THIS video on faux marbling with a Gelli Plate.  I was excited to give it a try and impressed with how cool the result was, though I didn't do an under layer of paint.  I wanted my marbling to be white.

I cut a Stampin' Up butterfly die from the marbled paper and layered a Tim Holtz butterfly die over that, along with a sticker sentiment.  I layered my butterfly over basket filler and a couple of Spellbinders wreath dies.

I didn't have a single sheet of glossy card in my stash, so I used a sheet of Tim's glossy resist card for my background panel.  I dipped it in a mix of Milled Lavender and Seedless Preserves DI.  I sponged the edges and splashed the panel with Weathered Wood.  The black script and faux stitch stamp are by BoBunny.

I used the Tattered Florals die to make a handmade flower from my tutorial HERE.  I layered it with a dyed loopy bow.

I cut a Yvonne Creations Spring-tastic Flora die into two pieces and tucked into my bundle to complete the design.  That's it for me today.  I hope you will join us each Monday in July for additional stops along our journey.  Our current challenge, All Squared Up, is underway with an opportunity to win a MDF prize package from our fabulous sponsor, Tando Creative.  Come, play along!

Destination Inspiration Arriving at Terminal 3

I'm so pleased that you've arrived at Terminal 3 with me today!  Autumn from SewPaperPaint with you to guide you along with the contents of our travel bag yet again:

Product - any ink or acrylic paint
Technique - brayering
Color - pale blue
Substrate - book

I was in the mood to work with my new PaperArtsy stamp set, and with its hefty size I grabbed a Prima greyboard tag as my substrate, adding the layer of "book" in the pages I adhered with Mod Podge.  I dipped my panel in Vintage Photo Distress Oxide to get an earthy base for my pale blues.

Next I brayered three similar blue hues onto my substrate, drying each layer lightly before adding the next.  The moisture from the paint seemed to pull up the DOX and blend it into my layers - what an amazing effect!  I toned things down a tad with a light brayering of white gesso.

I added some DecoArt texture sand paste through a dotty stencil and it also pulled up the DOX - I was thrilled!

I had recently won a giveaway from Shoregirl's Creations.  She included these amazing molded caulk lace bits from her tutorial HERE.  Do check it out, as these are flexible and dimensional - a must have for the mixed media artist!  Thank you Esther!  I inked up my butterfly panel with DI, and layered over a section of the silicone lace.

I stamped my sentiment on a leftover panel and did a wrap around on my tag.  I added a gessoed flower from my tutorial HERE.  Finally, I added a butterfly wing left over from the Mini Album I made for Creativation this year.  You can find the details on that process HERE.

Our Creative Guide's have offered such amazing inspiration this May...

Arriving at Terminal 1 we had S@ndy's fabulous journal spread.

And our last stop at Terminal 2, with Amanda's fabulous book.

All in all, what a winning lineup of inspiration this month!  I hope you've been inspired to play along with our current challenge, Use a Quote.  Perhaps you will be the lucky winner of the That's Crafty gift voucher!  Until next time, Autumn <3
