Numbers Tutorial

Hi everyone, Annie here to share  the tutorial for my 'Numbers' Shadowbox, using Tim Holtz Idea-ology Vignette Trays. I really did enjoy creating this home decor piece and as there are lots of pics you may wish to grab a cuppa of your choice x

Believe it or not my first thought was to create a project using Tim's Artful Dwellings, however, as often happens, another idea  came in to my head, taking me in a very different direction.

Below you can see many of Tim's products, including his Distressable Papers that I found whilst having a  craft room clean out several months ago !! These papers, together with Tim's Distressable books ,were purchased many years ago (possibly 16 years or more !)

The distressable paper was cut to fit the inside of the small vignette tray then stencilled using gold texture paste as seen below.

While the texture paste was drying I applied some colour to the chipboard doll using Distress Marker's.
The butterfly below is a Tim Holtz Sizzix die and once cut it was placed in a Bingo Ticket embossing folder prior to running it through my Bigshot.
Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs Distress Inks were applied to the butterfly and I just love the bold colour on the numbers.
Tim's Idea-ology pieces were covered with Speckled Egg paint, which I applied with my fingers

Crackling Campfire and Speckled Egg Distress Inks were applied to the background paper, together with  Vintage Photo. Water was spritzed on to my hand and then flicked on to the paper too.  Numbers were applied to Tim's  Idea-Ology Film Strip  and dominoes from my stash were adhered together, creating a platform for the Chipboard Doll.
Some close ups:
The die below enabled me to create  some bunting to which I applied rub ons.

The timepiece was given a wash of Speckled Egg and Picket Fence Distress Paints,  both paints applied with my fingers.
Below is the bunting and rub ons
Another pic of the finished make x

Thank You so much for dropping in and I hope that you have enjoyed the tutorial and maybe even be inspired to create something for the 'Numbers' challenge, which runs until 5th November @ 18:00 hrs.

Would be lovely to have you hop on board with us x

Have a great weekend and Happy Crafting

Here are the challenge details and I do hope you can hop on board with us:
"Numbers is our challenge theme for this month and we would like to see them being a focal point in your entries.
You can use stencils, die cuts, fussy cuts or rub ons, rust them up, use texture paste or paint them, the decision is yours as long as the numbers are visible. Just remember to create your project in one of our preferred styles: vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk."

Without further ado here are the challenge projects created by myself and the team.

Annie

I am so missing time spent with my two old school friends I decided to make a tag to celebrate our times together and had fun experimenting with the new Crackling Campfire Distress Ink. Do join me over at Live The Dream if you would like to see how I got these wonderful inky effects.

I reached for my square black journal this month to create a numbers themed / layered journal page. Had great fun adding lots of collage , stamping and paint to the background. More photos and details at Addicted to Art.

 Astrid

I decided to alter a little file folder and fitted accordion pockets inside. I then created a few pockets and embellishments to fit inside, featuring numbers of course. Like usual, if you want to find out more, you can visit my blog

Sandy

For the theme this month I have a card made for a good friend.  When it comes to friends it's always good to have a BINGO - I'm a winner.  The card is blank inside so I can write a personal note.

Barbara

31 is the perfect number during Halloween time! I created a tag with one of my favorite Paper Dolls by Tim Holtz, The witches! I love so much to use this tiny mask to cover their face creating a spooky effect! If you want to see the tutorial check out my Blog Yayascrap & more!

Inky Wings Tutorial

Hi everyone, Annie here x As promised I am back to share the step by step tutorial for my canvas project, created for the Inky Wings Challenge.
The canvas is quite large so I randomly placed the Tim Holtz brick stencil/That's Crafty Light Texture paste here and there.  (I love this texture paste as you can dry it with a heat gun without it bubbling up)

You can see the stencilled areas below
My  lovely mammy gifted me the air dry clay frame and Tudor style hinges and they really are quite fabulous.
The Ivy leaves were die cut using a Sheena Douglas die. Three of the ivy branches were layered together and then I applied a layer of Pebeo Gesso over everything. Once dry a coat of Decoart Whisper Chalk Paint was applied. This is such a lovely creamy colour.
Initially I applied Decoart Payne's Gray Acrylic paint to the bricks, Tudor style hinges and frame, followed by dry brushing of Decoart Quinacrodone Gold, creating a faux rust appearance. Similarly Quinacrodone Gold was dry brushed to the ivy leaves. Some Pebeo gold wax was then applied to the rusty hinges and frame.
The Dragonflies are by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. Two layers were inked with Cracked Pistachio and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks, then the bodies of both adhered with glue
This was my original idea but I felt it needed a bit more.
So I decided that another dragonfly was required. Another two die cuts were inked with the same bold colours and a vintage photograph by LaBlanche was adhered inside the frame. It's difficult to see in the photograph but there was some second generation stamping using a Lin Brown stamp by Paperartsy.
Some charcoal pencil was applied around the edges of the bricks and then smudged with my fingers. Black Soot Distress Ink was smudged around the edges creating some depth/ageing.
Thank You so much for sticking with me and should you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
The Inky Wings challenge runs until the 31st October at 18:00 hours so you still have plenty time to join in. To view the amazing and inspiring projects by the team please click HERE  or on the side bar at the top of the page, which takes you straight to the challenge post. Inky Wings : A Vintage Journey October Challenge

Hi everyone x It's Annie (Curiousncraftytreasures blog) here with this month's challenge, which is "INKY WINGS"
For this challenge you can create any project as long as ink and wings are included in some way. This includes backgrounds, stamped images, art journals, and portions of your project coloured with ink. Any kind of ink is welcome, so let's get creative within our preferred styles of vintage, shabby, mixed media, art journaling, industrial, timeworn or steampunk.
Our fabulous creative guides have provided lots of inspiration to get those creative juices flowing so grab a cuppa and enjoy this post.

I decided to paint a canvas incorporating Dragonflies, using Distress Ink to colour them. I shall share the process in more detail within my post on 18th October.

I've created a quartet of ATCs for Annie's fabulous theme.  My inky wings are attached to some embossed and slightly bossy insects hovering over inky layered backgrounds.  Do come and visit me at Words and Pictures to take a closer look at the instructions these flying insects have for us all on how to live our best lives!

I've created a wrapped journal for Annie's fabulous theme. My inky wing is added to the front of the wrapped journal. Please pop over to my blog to see how it all came together.

For this fabulous challenge - I took it quite literally.  I added lots of Alcohol Ink to the wings so they would look like a creepy patina headstone element.  Hope you will stop by my blog for a visit.

For Annie's fantastic challenge, I had fun art journaling using lots of different inks to create my background and the inky wings of my butterfly. To find out more, please pop over to my blog, Let's Art Journal, to see how it all came together.

I decided to use Annie's fabulous challenge as a "back to basics" exercise as I seem to have lost my way with my Distress Inks! Having used some of my favourite colours, favourite stamps and a fabulous new quote stamp I feel I have my inky mojo back! Please join me over on my blog if you would like to find out more.

For this inspirational challenge suggested by Annie, I choose to continue my Halloween projects! I created a card with the exclusive Stamptember 2019 Set by Simon Says Stamp and Tim Holtz. Check out my blog  Yayascrap & more for the whole tutorial!

I'm very pleased to be joining Annie's fabulous 'Inky Wings' challenge, as it's given me an opportunity to use my lovely Tim Holtz 'Entomology Stamps' and dies. If you'd like to see how my project came together, please hop over to my blog with this link.

Such lovely inspiration to get your creative juices flowing for our Inky Wings Challenge theme.
The challenge begins today and remains open for entries until the Thursday 31st October at 18:00 GMT
We love to view your entries and be inspired by  your projects. The Top 3 Pinworthies, chosen by the Creative Guides, will receive a badge to display on their blog.

Creative Card making with Annie

Hi everyone x It's Annie here with you today as we head out on the last leg of July's journey with our regular "Creative Card Making" post.
Grab a cuppa  as there are quite a few photographs en route :-)
Below is the finished card, which I will use for a forthcoming birthday of a close family member x
The card measures 8.1/4 inches by 4.5 inches and the front panel measures 4.1/4 inches by 8 inches
The papers used  are from the Time is an Illusion pad by Stamperia. I distressed the edges with Tim Holtz Distressing tool. The card was then inked with Worn Lipstick, Fossilized Amber, Broken China and Bundles Sage DIO's, which blended beautifully together. Some water  was spritzed in to my hand before flicking it on to the DOI's, before dabbing with paper towel.
I planned to turn back the stamperia paper, therefore I stitched  on a button from my stash to ensure it remained in place. Some ribbon flowers from The Paper Garden were adhered on to the card stock.
I cut a tag out from the Stamperia papers as I wanted to write a personal message that I could place within the pocket on the front of the card. A few circles from the same papers  were cut out and adhered on to the front of the tag.
A mini doily  was adhered to the card after ageing with Vintage Photo DI. (my all time favourite x)
You can see the tag sitting in the wee pocket. Now to adorn the front of my card.
I love the texture of this woven twine and after careful consideration adhered it using double sided tape.
A large die cut Doily was aged with Vintage Photo and then I cut out a circle of the Stamperia papers using my 2.5 inch punch.
A piece of hessian ribbon was adhered below the mini doily, top left. One of Tim Holtz Scroll Dies was inked with Worn Lipstick DIO, then finally the large circle of Stamperia paper was applied.
Two pieces of lace from Paper Garden were subsequently adhered to the bottom of the card and along the bottom of the fold.
Using Tim Holtz punch 4 butterflies were cut out and edged with Vintage Photo DI, some Idea-ology spinners were then adhered.
Once the glue was dry I raised the butterfly wings a little, which you can see below.
Thank You so much for joining me today and I hope that you will be inspired to use those beautiful paper pads that we all have in our stash.

Amanda's challenge theme for this month is "Precious Metal" and there is still time to join in with us x
The challenge runs until Thursday 1st August  at 18:00 and you can find the details by clicking the link HERE.
We love to view your entries and to leave some love on your blog so we hope you have time to hop on board.

Take Care and Happy Crafting

Creative Card Making With Annie

Hi everyone xx A warm welcome to our Creative Card Making Celebration Post x I adored Brenda's home decor piece tutorial (HERE) and the way in which she incorporated all the details of our 5 year journey here at AVJ. So here is my take for this month xx Grab a cuppa as it's a reasonably long post xx
I have created a "tunnel" card using a very old Tim Holtz Vintage Valise die to depict travelling on our journey here at AVJ x
Once I had die cut the vintage valise 4 times I then cut out a window on three of the pieces using a rectangle die from my stash x
On one of the valise windows I wanted to place die cut flowers and chose  the 2019 Tim Holtz Organic die to depict Spring, which has finally sprung and I am so happy as it's my favourite season x. The flower die was inked with various colourful Distress Inks ( DI) using my finger daubers.
The valise fronts and back were inked with various shades of Vintage Photo, Peeled Paint and Aged Mahogany DI's.
The outer edges were then distressed in a darker brown, namely Walnut Stain DI. You can see the concertina folds that I created to hold each piece, creating some depth, in the photo below.
Tim Holtz globe die by Sizzix depicts the talented Creative Guides and our fabulous followers who are from all corners of the world x
Pieces of the valise were covered in acrylic wax then rusting powder was applied, vinegar was then sprayed over the top and left overnight to rust !!! It has been some time since I used this technique and I have to say I love the outcome, which can be viewed in the last two photos.
That's Crafty Light Texture paste was applied through one of Tim Holtz stencils, then a stamp depicting a jar with paint brushes,  from Lynne's Affirmations stamp set, which all crafters can relate to x I dont know where I would be without my paint brushes and not always for paint !!! sometimes distress inks, glue, modge podge and varnish
One of Lynne's Affirmations was stamped on to some aged kraft card using Archival Ink in Sepia.
I also applied some splatters of paint to the valise front
Glossy Accents was used to adhere the rusted elements of the valise and some clips helped to hold them in place. The artist brushes stamp below is by Darkroom Door and I have had it in my stash for ages...don't they lok amazing x
I love the new Tim Holtz Transparent Wings and paper dolls, which you can see below.
The front of the valise below x
A luggage tag was then created and the letters AVJ applied along with some more splatters of dark brown and white paint.
And here are all the details  on the back of the card.  I love love the rusting powder.
As we are celebrating our birthday here at AVJ I chose to decorate the back with stamps and stencils, but this is where you could easily add your  personalised greeting. Personalising the tag is another option xx
Thank You so much for hopping on board with us over the last 5 years x It has been such a pleasure to share our journey with you along the way and we love to visit the blogs of all our followers/entrants to our monthly challenges. There is also still time to join in with our March challenge "Celebrate The Journey", which you can view by clicking HERE xx

Take care and thank you for hopping on board x
