Pinworthy Inspiration

Hello and welcome to Pinworthy Inspiration Day here at A Vintage Journey. Today we welcome back our pinworthies from a previous challenge to share some inspiration on our current theme - Industrial. We welcome four guests this month; Jane, Chris, Sara Emily and Maggie.

Jane
Hello, Jane from Jane's Journal here and I am delighted to have been invited to share a guest designer post with you today. I am sure a lot of you know me from blog land but I use my cat Billy's photo for my avatar.... so here I am in the flesh. This photo was snapped by my Hb last September on holiday on our beloved Rhodes.
Since I could hold a pencil and scissors I have enjoyed being a real all round crafter and just love being a jack of all trades. I am a silversmith, jewellery maker, card maker, paper crafter and cake decorator. I also love my garden and get lots of inspiration from there. I love how my crafts can cross over and I often combine ideas and even techniques. Until April I also work part time as a physiotherapist for the NHS. I had been advised the theme for this month was Industrial and I must admit initially I thought.....omgoodness what on earth was I going to make? I am not a hugely "industrial grungy" girl but after some research over the Christmas break and idea bashing I decided to get out the one "industrial" style Tim Bigz die I own. I also decided to work with foil as it was something different.......little did I know that Professor Holtz would also use a foil technique for his January remix tag! I also thought that I would twist things slightly and as it was February that I would make a Valentine card for my Hb. I am sure that most of us struggle with male cards, don't we.

You can see I used the weathered clock die to cut embossed foil covered grunge paper (try saying that in a hurry!)
I used lots of distressing and tarnishing techniques to made a faux metal riveted background.
I added a pop of red using alcohol inked and embossed hearts and some heat embossed Valentine words.
I have a step by step over at my blog here if you would like to see how I created my card. Do pop on over, a warm welcome awaits you.

Chris
Hello, my name is Christine Smith and I am so lucky to have been asked to be Guest Designer by
A Vintage Journey for this fab challenge. Thank you!
I have been crafting for a number of years - it was my daughter, Sarah who got me into it when I became ill with ME/CFS and needed something to occupy my mind when I could no longer work - crafting has proved a wonderful therapy, I love it! Also it is so cool to have met so many lovely people in Blogland.  I can't manage as much crafting as I would like but I love stamping and anything inky.  I try lots of different things too and am still learning all the time.

The theme was very much out of my comfort zone and I have to confess, I did struggle!
The background is DIY silver sticky tape stuck on card then embossed with a ball tool and ruler along the joins then detail added freehand and with a stencil.  Alcohol inks were also dabbed over followed by black paint which was then partially rubbed away so it looks 'dirty'.  The butterfly is by Sizzix and is cut using silver card, embossed with a Tim Holtz embossing folder, again coloured with alcohol inks then brads added for detail.  The sentiment is stamped on card inked with Distress inks.  Here is a close up photo so you can see the detail a bit more as this was really hard to photograph!
Further details can be found on my blog here.

Once again, thank you so much all at Vintage Journey - I really enjoyed having a go at something so different even it was very scary!  Thank you for having a look and I hope you join in with this awesome challenge!

Sara Emily
Hello, everybody!  It's an honor to be invited back as Guest Designer here at A Vintage Journey today.  My name is Sara Emily, and I'm known in blogland as sarascloset. I live in the US with my husband, 17 year old boy/girl twins, and my twin kitties. I have been crafting in some way or another practically all my life. I love to try different styles, but my real love is Vintage Grunge.
I was excited but perhaps a little intimidated by Tracey's theme "Industrial", thinking cold steel, but once I got started I felt I could meld industrial quite well with my beloved grunge.  My wall hanging was influenced by Tim's Industrial technique and also inspired by Nikki's "I Imagine, I Believe, I Create" wall hanging. I am thrilled to have her gorgeous, motivating work of art in my home to inspire me every day!
I've used metallic paints, custom blended embossing powders, and Ranger Embossing Puffs to give both a modern and vintage/grungy industrial feel to my backgrounds.
I used Tim's Steampunk Texture Fades, his Industrial technique, more compounded embossing powders, Small Talk stickers and one of  Tim's stamps to make my tags.
If you would like to see more photos and details on how this was made, please stop by my blog.  I would like to thank the lovely and talented Creative Guides for allowing me to join them today!
 Hugs and Blessings!
Sara Emily

Maggie
Hello everyone Maggie here with my interpretation of February's  challenge Industrial.  I was very pleased and honoured to be asked after my Pinworthy mention for the Fireworks challenge  in November. Here is a little bit about myself:
I have always crafted can't remember a time when I wasn't making something.  I was introduced to rubber stamps approximately 23 years ago and very quickly an obsession with stamps, inks, papers took over my life, and the rest they say is history.  I Love to blog my makes and join challenges which really stretch the imagination.  I am happiest when I can get inky and messy, love to learn new techniques and of course anything Tim Holtz gets my attention!
Industrial is one of my favourite Tim techniques and I was really pleased to revisit this one, my hardest decision was what to make, after a rummage I found a very neglected "M" in my stash.
I used foil tape and several sizzix texture fades, the foil was firstly added to card before embossing otherwise I find it rips. This was then cut into pieces to fit my "M" as you can see they varied in size.
After sticking these down I applied acrylic paint Adirondack Sail Boat Blue and Espresso. I covered all sides of the "M" just forgot to take photos!
Lastly I gathered together some flowers which I dyed with distress inks, I also die cut tattered flower pieces and caged bird from the foil and applied same paint and a little bit of black acrylic paint, added Idea-ology tag and metal brads to flowers and Chit Chat stickers.
I hope you like my interpretation of this challenge and thank you so much for asking me it has been  great fun and a pleasure to be travelling here.

Thank you ladies, so much wonderful creativity! I love the fact they are all so different.
If you would like to join in with our Industrial theme challenge there is still plenty of time to play along - it would be great to see you!

A Vintage Journey - February Challenge - Industrial

Welcome to a our new challenge for February 2016. Our challenge this month is :

INDUSTRIAL

"Use your foil tape, metallic card stock along with your Texture Fades/Embossing Folders to create an industrial creation all your own.

Whether it's a background or bloom or metal embellishments; don't limit your paint colour to black..... industrial can look great in all colours!

The Creative Guides have created a wide array of industrial projects to inspire you on your journey.

-----------------------------------------------

I opted to take this opportunity to create something a little different for my hubby for Valentine's Day....an altered frame. I love adding layers to my design along with vintage and found items; which this piece has in abundance incuding old watch parts, chicken wire combined with metal embellishments from the Idea-ology range. Hope hubby likes his quirky Valentine's gift! For more details please pop by my blog.
Well despite being urged to do something colourful I ended up using black and sepia! I love these two (normally three) gents and had them in mind as the original industrial designer gents. If you would like to see some more details (particularly the different shades of black I used!) then hop on over to my blog.

Tracy's 'Industrial' Theme was perfect for me as I needed to make a birthday card
for my ex-Navy Brother.  You can see more over on my blog.

Addicted to Art - Tim Holtz Industrial Technique - Butterfly Duo
I decided to use an Ikea shadow box to display my industrial butterflies. I have used paint and alcohol inks on the embossed trio and decorated the frame with tissue wrap and translucent paints. There are more details and photographs at Addicted to Art today.

What a great theme for this months challenge.  I used some of my favorite things for this canvas.  I always love using Tim's Gadget Gears & Layering Stencils so I combined them with one of the great images from Graphic 45's Steampunk Debutante Line.
Stop by my blog, My "Crafty" Life on the Internet, to see more details.

I absolutely love this Industrial styled card using various Tim Holtz products.....such great fun to put together too. For a closer look and more details hop over to my blog

My project is part of a much larger one, it's the spine of aN altered journal/mini book I am working on. If you would like to see how it all came together, all you need to do is visit my blog HERE

I had so much fun with Tracy's Industrial theme, my only problem was deciding which one of my million ideas I wanted to use!  I finally did settle on a design after much debate and created this 'Heart Of An Industrialist' reverse canvas, come on over to my blog to find out how I made it.

For a good few years now I have always wanted to alter a box using Tim Holtz Industrial technique but never  quite got around to it so Tracy's theme this month gave me the perfect opportunity.  If you would like more details then be sure to stop my blog

My thoughts are already turning to Spring and Easter and for Tracy's 'Industrial' challenge I have combined lots of things I love - rust, metal/faux metal and altered art with Tim Holtz inspiration and techniques. This was such a fun curio box to put together and I took Tracy's advice and used foil tape to make what are normally natural elements look more industrialised. There are more photos over at Bumblebees and Butterflies.
