Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special may reunite all eleven different Doctors. Whether they're dead or not. Whether they want to or not. I mean, it's the Doctor Who's 50 Anniversary. The event is a bit bigger than a couple dead actors and the pride of a couple live ones.
It's all very secret and speculative at this point, but this isn't the first time we've heard of a big reunion for the anniversary episode. According to The Birmingham Mail, however, this could be more than mere rumor.
There are a couple snags, however. Christopher Eccleston is being a stick in the mud about it. You might remember him as the cranky balding Doctor who got the whole ball rolling again after years of the show being off the air. Eccleston only stuck around for one season in the first place, probably because he's one of the few Doctors that actually gets other acting jobs. (OK, OK. Maybe a few others do as well.)
On top of that, Colin Baker, the character's gay 1980s puffy-haired iteration, says he hasn't heard anything about this big 50th Anniversary reunion show. If all eleven Doctors are getting together, it's news to him. In other news, there were now only ten doctors, not eleven as previously thought. Apparently a BBC exec just went back in time and took Colin Baker out when he was still a child.
For those that don't know, here is how the eleven Doctors break down, since it often feels like people only really know the last three:
#1 is an old untrustworthy-looking guy.
#2 is slightly less old, more playful but with a dark side.
#3 is old like #1 but way more puffed up and pompous
looking. Known to drive a Whomobile (aka "The Alien").
#4 is the Doctor Who with curly hair and a scarf. When
looking up old Doctor Who episodes, it's entirely possible you saw this
guy.
#5 is sort of a preppy blonde Doctor.
#6 no longer exists in our space time continuum. Well, OK. Maybe we're being a bit too harsh. He does shape up towards the end of his run.
#7 is a twerpy little guy.
#8 is a kind of handsome guy who only appeared in one Doctor
Who TV movie but went on to produce some awesome audio-dramas! (Seriously,
listen to them. They're awesome.)
#9 is the punky, grumpy Doctor.
#10 is the Doctor who made the show rise drastically in popularity in the United States.
#11 is the Doctor we have right now. He wears a bow tie.
Occasionally a fez.
Oh, and let's not forget the Shalka Doctor. Everyone forgets him.
Unfortunately, while the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode might unite all these
Doctors, it won't bring back any of the Doctor's many, many non-sexual
companions. It may utilize his one sexual companion: his wife River.
Whether or not she'll consummate her marriage with all eleven Doctors (ten,
sorry) remains to be seen, but it would certainly make for one memorable 50th Anniversary present to fans.
