Banner Thoughts for Friday Mashup

It's time for another Friday Mashup! This week Avery is our host and she has a great sketch for us, plus she wants us to use 2 different embellishments on our project.

I used the set Perfect Pennants and kept it simple since the DSP is so busy. I stamped the sentiment in Coastal Cabana and attached it to the main panel with a staple. The card base is Sahara Sand with Best Year Ever DSP layered on a strip of Coastal Cabana.

For my 2 embellishments I used Coastal Cabana ribbon and a Crushed Curry button. I'm really impressed that I managed to include a button, usually I can never make those work on my projects!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup blog to see what the rest of the DT did and then play along with us, we love seeing what you create!

  • Create a project with the "Sketch".
  • Create a project with "2 different embellishments".
  • or Mash it Up! and create a project "with the Sketch and different embellishments".

Baby its cold outside for Friday Mashup

Ok, well, it seems to be cold everywhere BUT Alaska. The stupid jet stream sent the cold weather soaring to the Lower 48 and left Alaska with record high temps and in my area we're still waiting for our first snowfall! If this holds out until the end of the month this would be the least-snowy November for Anchorage, and the first November in recorded history that we have never seen measurable snowfall. That just depresses me!

My snow fixation was perfect for this weeks Friday Mashup brought to us by Avery.....a card inspired by weather and include a metal embellishment. I started daydreaming about our beautiful winter nights when everything is covered in snow and the light from the moon illuminates everything and it's just so magical and still. I'm really hoping we get some snow soon so I can enjoy those type of nights again!

Now, I think I stretched the metal embellishment a bit by using silver sequins....it kin of looks like metal right? :0)

Head over to The Friday Mashup and check out all the great weather inspired cards by the rest of the DT and then play along with us!

This week's Mashup Challenge is:
  • Create a project using "a Metal Embellishment (Staple, Brad, Grommet etc.)".
  • Create a project using "Weather as your Inspiration" think Storms, Winter, Clouds, Rain, Sun, Warm Sandy Beaches.
  • or Mash it Up! and create a "Weather inspired project with a Metal Embellishment".

Blowing Colors for Friday Mashup

It's time for another Friday Mashup and this week Avery is our lovely hostess. She has a fun technique for us to try....the ink blowing technique. You can watch a video on it HERE. She also wants us to use the following colors: Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Basic Black.

The colors spoke fall to me and I started out thinking I was going to create a fall themed card but you can see that it ended up in a totally different direction :) The lines and colors are so bold that it's really easy to let them take center stage.  To complete the card I took a stamp from Starburst Sayings, colored it in with markers, stamped it, cut the circle portion by hand and then backed it with a piece of Basic Black cut with the Starburst Framelits. Easy peasy!

Channel your inner child and come by The Friday Mashup and play along with us!

Getting Punchy for Friday Mashup

It's Friday, woohooo! It's my last Friday working days this summer, I go back to nights on Monday and I am so happy. It will mean less crafting time but I am sooooo not a morning person, I much prefer going to bed at 4am and sleeping during the day. This also means fall is just around the corner, another reason to be excited!

Friday Mashup challenges also get me excited and this week is no different. I love to see what my fellow DT members come up with and a lot of the time its something I've never tried before and I like that they make me think outside of the box. Avery is our hostess for this challenge and she wants to see some punch art mixed with pom poms! What a fun way to mix things up!

Now, I will admit that I was a bit stumped by the punch art simply because its not something I do. I surfed the net (ok, mainly Pinterest) for ideas and finally decided to do a tab punch dress. It reminds me of my daughter as she is very girly girl and loves her dresses.....the complete opposite of me! I used Real Red to punch the top of the dress out and then used a scallop punch for the bottom half. The edges were sponged on both pieces for a bit more definition. I used some Real Red ribbon to create a belt and I added a single small black pom pom as an accent, along with some pearls along the neckline.

My card base is Crumb Cake and I created another panel in Crumb Cake and embossed it with the Modern Mosaic folder. I sponged it with Crumb Cake for added dimension again. The banners are cut from Fresh Prints DSP and Whisper White.

My layout came from the current challenge at The Paper Players. As soon as I saw the sketch I knew the dress would work perfectly!

Make sure you head over to both The Friday Mashup and The Paper Players to check out both challenges!

Patterns for Friday Mashup

Before I get into details for this weeks Friday Mashup challenge I just want to thank everyone for the very nice comments on my mini blinds card from last week! I was thrilled that so many of you enjoyed my project and your kind comments were greatly appreciated. I haven't had time to get a tutorial together but you can always go HERE, its the tutorial I used to make my card.

This week Avery has a great sketch for us and she wants us to use different DSP with it. Avery mentions that she has a lot of DSP left over from last years catalog and let me say, I am right there with her! I organized my craft space last weekend and I was surprised at some of the older DSP I had. Now the funny thing is, I didn't use any retired DSP on this card, its all new LOL Oooops! Oh well, I'll make other cards with this sketch and retired DSP.

For the ribbon I didn't have any Blackberry Bliss so I took some retired Whisper White I had and colored it with the Blackberry Bliss marker. In person its not as dark as the photo makes it seem.

Make sure you stop by The Friday Mashup to check out all the great cards from the rest of the design team and then give the challenge a try, we'd love to see what you come up with!

Getting into shape for Friday Mashup

This week at The Friday Mashup Avery is our hostess and she wants us to get in shape....wait, what? Hahaha, I mean she wants us to make a shaped card! She also wants us to use to the color combo she provided.

I wont lie, the shaped card thing totally threw me and I have been fussing with stuff all week. Thursday I finally pulled out the Heart Framelits (because my daughter suggested using a heart) and went to work. I grabbed the Happy Watercolor set and let's just say that I had about 3 hearts cut out in Whisper White before I finally settled on the final product. I can neither confirm nor deny that some cussing went on during this time period :)

Avery mentioned that these colors are great for Easter projects but I don't celebrate Easter, so I just tried to go for a nice spring feel to the card. The flowers were fussy cut and popped up with dimenionals on the embossed heart.

I don't know if I'm thrilled with how it all turned out but I guess in crafting sometimes you win , sometimes you lose. I tried though!

Make sure you head over to The Friday Mashup to check out all the great projects from the rest of the design team(they are 100x better than mine, hahaha!) and then play along with us!

Sketchy and Spritzing for Friday Mashup

Happy Friday, and for those of you that celebrate Valentines Day, I hope you have a great day! My husband and I aren't big Valentines Day people, our wedding anniversary is Feb 5(we just celebrated the big 2-0!) and we prefer to celebrate that instead. I'll go to the store tomorrow and buy myself some discounted chocolate and I'll be happy :0)

Today Avery is bringing us her first sketch challenge at the Friday Mashup, and its a great one! The only thing I changed from it was the sentiment. The stamp I used has the sentiment included in it so I couldn't move it. Otherwise my sketch stayed true! Avery would also like to see some spritzing or splattering on our projects. Now, I knew that was part of the Mashup but somewhere along the line I totally spaced that when making my card and therefore I don't have any on mine :( So sorry Avery, it wasn't intentional!

Head over to The Friday Mashup and check out Avery's first sketch with us and then give it a whirl, we love seeing what everyone comes up with!
