Sending Smiles for PP608

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a fun new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, Joanne is hosting our Color Challenge.
This week’s color combo is a fun one! All of these colors can be found in one of my favorite Designer Series Paper packs (Design A Daydream) but I love that we could use ANY combination of the colors on our cards. So pick one, two…or all six and have fun creating!

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
Color Combo:
For my card, I actually did use the Design A Daydream DSP as my starting point. Just a note: the DSP is a Host Exclusive, which can be purchased with a minimum $150 (USD) order. Once I came upon the floral pattern, I decided to use the Sending Smiles stamp set and coordinating Sending Dies from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. I just love how easy it is to create the beautiful stamped flowers and you can never go wrong with a big, bold sentiment!

I also added some texture to the Basic White layer using the Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder. I wanted to bring in a little more of the Daffodil Delight color, so I created some ink splatters on the textured cardstock. I simply smooshed my closed ink pad to transfer some ink to the lid and picked up the ink on my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. Then I tapped the brush against the side of my finger to “flick” the color and sparkle on the cardstock. If you try this, be sure to protect your work surface with some scrap paper and also make sure to clean out your ink pad lid when you are finished.

I kind of wish I added a little more ink, but you know how it goes. Sometimes it’s better to quit while you're ahead to avoid adding TOO much and making a mess…which was exactly what I did on the first try. Haha!
Card Measurements & Details:
  • Blackberry Bliss Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Old Olive Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Design A Daydream Host Designer Series Paper: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Blackberry Bliss Cardstock: 3-1/8” x 4-3/8”
  • Basic White Cardstock: 3” x 4-1/4”, emboss with Brock & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder, add Daffodil Delight ink “splatters” as described above
  • Petal Pink Cardstock: scrap to die cut the second largest circle from Stylish Shapes Dies

Finally, here is a peek inside the card! I simply stamped another flower and added a little strip of leftover DSP from the front. I left the sentiment blank to write a handwritten note.

Thanks for Caring...The Lost Post

Hi there and Happy Friday to you! I am taking a small "creative hiatus" this week, but I wanted to share a quick post of two cards I made LAST week. I thought I had this one scheduled last Friday and there is was, sitting in "draft" status. Grrr...Blogger!

These cards were made from the same design, just using different color combos. The first one uses the Thanks for Caring stamp set, Vintage Wallpaper DSP, Rose Red Seam Binding and Framed Tulips Embossing Folder (sponged with Very Vanilla ink) from the Occasions Mini Catalog. Tomorrow is the last day to order from that catalog, by the way. :)
The second card uses a lot of the same items, along with the Paisley Petals DSP, which is going to be in the *brand new* catalog which launches in July. Tomorrow is also the LAST day to take advantage of the promotion to get it BEFORE it launches. If you order $20 in SU! product, you will be able to purchase this paper (for $9.95) before it is available in the new catalog. This paper is gorgeous! At our monthly demo meeting this week, Minnie put together some awesome projects for us and now, I love it even MORE!  Thanks for the awesome inspiration, Minnie! :)
Of course, I dressed up the "inside's" of both cards with the scraps:
Thanks for stopping by today and I'm sorry I have been SO absent this week. Lots going on here and I just needed to take a short "break". I hope you all had a great week out there! Until next time....

Have a HAPPY day! :)

Hydrangea in the Spotlight

Hello everyone! It's already Thursday? Ugh, this week is just flying by. Before I get into my card for today, I wanted to share some cool news. One of my cards was featured yesterday HERE at Paper Punch Addiction, which is a huge honor yet again. Thank you SO much, Kim! :) Please stop by and visit the site, there are some awesome ideas for using your punches.

For my card today, I got my inspiration from the weekly technique challenge at "Just Us Girls". I have never tried the Spotlighting Technique before. It's just a really unique way to highlight a stamped image on a card. A link to a tutorial can be found HERE on Splitcoast, too.
I have had the idea in my head that I wanted to use this hydrangea stamp from the Because I Care set, when I first saw this challenge last week. Today, I FINALLY had some time to put it all together. Just in time, the challenge ends tonight. Whew!

After I got the "spotlight-ed" image all colored and shaded, it just felt like it needed something else. So I pulled out my new Nature Walk set and inked up the little bee. I do NOT like cutting tiny things out, by the way, and tend to avoid it at all costs. But this little "buzzy-dude" needed to add some dimension to the flower so there was NO way around it. GAH...time to use those dreaded paper snips! I also glittered up his wings and added some Crystal Effects to his head to give him some added pizazz, since he IS in the spotlight, after all.
The card ended up being pretty simple overall but hopefully it helps the technique stand out more. I have listed all of the supplies used at the end of the post, so I won't go into detail. Here is a photo of the inside of the card, made with some scraps left over from the front:
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. I hope you are having a great week so far. Before I sign off, I realized that I haven't shared any photos of the "furry-ones" in quite a while. So, here is a shot of my angelic Benjamin Maxwell curled up on the desk, as I type this up. He is totally in the way, BUT staying out of trouble...for the moment anyway! (Note: the curled up paws. This cat is always in the most odd poses.)
Have a HAPPY day! :)
