Polish Pickup June 2023 Misheard Song Lyrics: Noodles Nail Polish Walk Alone or Wear Cologne

 *press sample*

Hello hello! Anyone else thinking today is Monday instead of Tuesday because of Memorial Day? I spent a bit too much this weekend with all of the sales, how about you? Of course I kept a little money aside for Polish Pickup that starts on Friday. The PPU theme is misheard song lyrics, and the names of all these polishes this month are cracking me up! I'm equally guilty on mishearing lyrics, and when I finally figure out the correct ones, I always feel so embarrassed. Honestly, I don't know how makers translated wrong lyrics into a nail polish, but I guess that's why I only swatch and don't create polishes! Wishlisting is open, so you can browse at your leisure until it goes live on Friday, June 2nd. Also make sure to join the Polish Pickup Pack Facebook Group as swatches pop up there all the time.

The shop officially opens at 11:00 AM ET Friday, June 2nd and ends on Monday, May 5th at 11:59 PM (but if a polish has a bottle limit and sells out before the end of the pre-order, it's gone, unless you get lucky and the cap gets raised...which is rare) on the PPU website. Just a heads-up, PPU raised their base shipping rates from $3 to $4 for the lightest packages. USPS keeps raising their prices, so at some point it gets too high and brands cannot eat those prices forever. If you get heavier items, I believe shipping prices get higher. Let's get a closer look at this month's Noodles Nail Polish offering.

Noodles Nail Polish Walk Alone or Wear Cologne (2 coats)
Inspiration: What's my Age Again by Blink-182
Price: $11.50
Bottle Limit: None

I love Blink-182, and while I've never been able to see them in concert, I saw the side project Boxcar Racer with Tom and Travis. After the show I even got to meet them both! That was the highlight of my college years. Anyway, this month's polish is Walk Alone or Wear Cologne (Natalie, I 100% thought the lyrics were "walk alone") which is a white crelly base with matte blue/yellow glitters, sky blue holo glitters, and a touch of holo flakies. Don't be mistaken, this is definitely white. I went ahead and used 2 thicker coats for my photos, and I used a glitter smoothing topcoat followed by a QDTC for that smooth finish you see here.

There you have it, folks. What do you plan on picking up this month? Start your wishlist now so you don't miss out on any capped items. You can find out more about Noodles Nail Polish on their websiteInstagram pageFacebook page, and Facebook Fan Group

*These polishes were provided by the company or PR representative. All reviews are based solely on my opinion. For more information, please see my full disclosure at the bottom of the site*

Halal Nail Polish from 786 Cosmetics: Swatches and Reviews

 *press samples*

Hi everyone! Was it a manic Monday for you? I'm delighted to say it wasn't a hectic Monday here. The weather the last couple weeks have been absolutely gorgeous. Fall always feels too short here in North Carolina, so I will relish cooler days. Tonight I have a very special post to share with you all. I believe everyone should be able to wear nail polish. I don't care about your race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation; if you want to wear nail polish, you should rock it! I'll admit that I was a bit uneducated about the difficulty Muslim people had in finding nail polish they could wear while practicing the religion. According to the Muslim faith, the entire body must be cleansed before performing the 5 daily prayers. Since traditional nail polishes form a physical barrier from water and oxygen, it would have to be removed before prayer and then reapplied. Who would want to continue to apply and remove polish so often? Not only that, all of the acteone needed to remove the polish would wreck havoc on your nails and cuticles.

Despite there being over a billion Muslims, there are very few Halal nail polishes. When 786 Cosmetics contacted me about reviewing some of their polishes, I jumped at the chance. I was so curious how the polishes would differ from traditional polish. Since the polishes need to allow oxygen and water to pass through, I wanted to know how the application and wear compares to traditional polishes. The first time I remember hearing about a larger brand making halal polish was when Orly made their Breathable line a few years ago. I'm also really happy that 786 Cosmetics has included their water permeability certifications through the Kalamazoo Islamic Center and SGS Labs on their website. Whew, that's a lot of information, but it's information I think is important to know before getting to photos. The polishes retail for $12.95 each, and features cream, shimmer, and metallic finishes. Make sure to sign up for emails because they often have sales to save you some extra dough.

Noodles Nail Polish Spring 2021 Collection Swatches and Reviews

*press samples*

Hi everyone! It's my birthday!!! No, nothing exciting is going on...I had to work all day and have no other plans, but I do get to see my parents later in the week! It's been a whole 10 months since I've seen them, and it will be so nice to be around someone besides my husband and tiny group of co-workers (no offense to them). If you had asked me last year on my birthday whether or not we'd still be in this position over a year later, I would have said no way. Alas, maybe we're getting just a little closer to the finish line.

Tonight I've got the new 8-piece collection (7 new and 1 throwback release) from Noodles Nail Polish to share with you. It features 6 crellies in various shades and 2 glitter toppers. This set will be available this Friday, April 16th at 6 PM EST on the Noodles website. All polishes will retail for just $9.50 each. This is going to be a picture-heavy post, so we should get going.

Polish Pickup June 2020 Cocktails and Mocktails Swatches and Reviews

*press samples*

Long time, no blog! Tonight I've got 4 products from this month's Polish Pickup which is coming in hot. The inspiration is Cocktails and Mocktails and I don't actually drink. I mean, I did back in the day, but alcohol interferes with the medication I take these days so my husband tends to do the drinking (he's into craft beer). It's fine with him because he always has a designated driver. That said, I think this is a really fun theme as there are drinks in all the colors of the rainbow. New to PPU? If so, here's how it works:

Definitely join the Polish Pickup Facebook Group. You don't necessarily need to actively participate in the group, but it will give you a look at the polishes that will be available in the coming month. PPU themes are chosen by the people, often a few months in advance (brands need time to find their inspiration and test their polish). Any indie brand that has been around for at least a year can participate and each has their own specific inspiration picture and polish for that month. All you need to do is go to the Polish Pickup site during the pre-order window (the first Friday-Monday of the month) to make all of your purchases of these exclusive polishes. There's no need to pay for multiple shipping charges; since this is a pre-order, all polishes get sent to Polish Pickup and they send you the polishes you ordered. Yup, it's that simple. Oh, and shipping is a flat-rate of $3 to the US (more for international and they just had to increase the pricing to Canada). Recently they also opened a UK site which you can find here. Since all orders are pre-orders, shipping will take place about 3 weeks after the end of the pre-order.

PPU starts Friday, June 5th at 11:00 AM ET and ends on Monday, June 8th at 11:59 PM (but if a polish has a cap and sells out before the end of the pre-order, it's gone, unless you get lucky and the cap gets raised...which is rare) on the PPU website. Guess what next month is?? PPU Rewind! Each brand gets to bring back a shade (or product) from a previous month for the PPU website, and a different color they can sell on their website if they're interested.

The website is currently open for wishlisting, so go check out this month's offerings STAT. Time for swatches!

Hi guys! It's been a hot minute since I've reviewed a proper mainstream brand (I consider Zoya to be a bit on the cusp). I also have some other nail and cuticle care items from OPI to share with you that can amplify your manicures.

Ms. Sparkle Spring 2019 Easter Egg Hunt Collection Swatches and Reviews

*press samples*

Hi guys! I told you I had lots of polishes in the works. While I've not been posting many blogs, I've been busy behind-the-scenes swatching a ton of new polishes coming out in the next week or 2. Spring polishes are in full bloom (pun intended), and today I've got a new collection from Ms. Sparkle. Simone is the maker, and she just so happens to be an indie maker from the Netherlands. I know of some indie brands in Australia, the UK, and Brazil, so I was excited to learn that there are others in Europe. I know what you're thinking; what about shipping from the Netherlands? These were shipped first class mail and they arrived a lot sooner than expected. I think I got them in 10 days total, or 7 business days. I believe Simone mentioned that they usually take around 7-10 business days to the US. If you're still not convinced, you can head over to one of the several stockists in the US that feature Ms. Sparkle, and some even have free shipping over $50.

She sent me over her newest collection, Easter Egg Hunt, which will be released on Monday, April 1st in her shop. As you can see from the photo above, this one is full of colorful glitter crellies. I'm so happy there's been a resurgence of true glitter crellies in the indie world.  There are several brands that have stayed true to them, and I'm proud to be able to work with some of them. I was having a discussion with Simone about some of our favorites, and it was clear that she has a passion for them, and has been making them a long time. Again, these will be available on Monday, and they will retail for $9 each.

Static Lacquer Primary Collection Swatches and Reviews + Cuticle Oil + Magnets!

*press samples*

Hi guys! TGIF! It was a short week for me at work, but it still felt long. I was in Baltimore working all last weekend, which is the reason for my semi-long break from the blog. Tonight I have a new permanent collection from Static Lacquer, as well as some new items hitting the shop. These are available now, so make sure to check out the site for everything shown here.

The new Primary Collection will always be available and restocked in the shop. They all stamp and watermarble for all you great artists out there. As you know, I'm not one of them. I did manage to get a few photos of some simple stamping just so you can see how well they work. They are available individually for $10, or $45 for the 5-piece collection. Just want a trio of the yellow, red, and blue? No problem, these will be available for $28. Perhaps the staples black and white are all you need? You'll save yourself $1.50 and get the duo for just $18.50.

Formula
All 5 polishes were easy to work with. The only one that I felt could really use the second coat was the yellow, which is no surprise for that shade. As you can see below, I used 2 coats for all my swatches. Macro settings and bright lighting show every imperfection, which is why I opted to apply a second coat. When using these at home, you would be more than happy with just 1 coat (minus maybe the yellow). I should also mention that these dry with a satin finish due to how pigmented they are. If you want that shiny finish, make sure to grab your favorite topcoat.

Static Lacquer Primary Black (2 coats)

Listen, there are many issues that came up when I decided to stamp. First, I lost the stamp I usually use. I had to use one of those really cheap and small ones that don't work well with the strong 'C' curve of my nail (and is too short for my nail bed). Second, I never got the chance to use the Halloween plate I bought last year, so of course I decided to go ahead and use that one. In March. I totally expect to be judged for that. Anyway, if you want a great basic 1-coat black, here it is. It will make a great base for your nail art, or shifty UP-filled polishes.

Static Lacquer Primary Blue (2 coats)

Up next is a Primary Blue which is a bright cobalt blue creme.

Static Lacquer Primary Red (2 coats)

Primary Red is your bright tomato red creme. With topcoat, it has a nice squishiness to it.

Static Lacquer Primary White (2 coats)

Calling all artists! A stark white creme is what everyone needs.

Static Lacquer Primary Yellow (2 coats)

Last, but not least is Primary Yellow which is a canary yellow creme. Again, this is the only one I thought really needed a second coat. That's really saying something because most yellows need 3 coats and are a pain to apply. I'm digging this one a lot more than I was expecting to!

New Items to the Shop

MAGNETS! These are neodymium mini magnets that come as 4-packs for $5. They are approximately 12 mm and I went ahead an gave a size comparison because I'm more of a visual person. All magnets are decorated with your favorite Static Lacquer shades including some limited edition, PPU, or other collaboration shades. You will get a random assortment unless specifically requested. I immediately put mine on my Helmers, but they can easily be used on refrigerators, whiteboard calendars, or in the office.

And Static Lacquer now has cuticle oils! Stacy took her time with the ingredients and came up with a really nourishing and moisturizing formula. It does take a few minutes to absorb, but it's still lightweight. The ingredients include Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Argan Oil, Sunflower Oil, Vitamin E , and fragrance, if chosen. They are currently available in 5 mL droppers for only $3, but brush pens will be coming soon. The scent list is quite extensive, and Stacy also includes the top, middle, and bottom notes for each scent which I appreciate.

I chose Strawberry Shortcake and Blackcurrant Absinthe to try out. Strawberry Shortcake is sugary and sweet, but not cloying or overpowering. It adds a nice hint of scent without being headache-inducing. Sometimes strawberry scents can smell really artificial, but I didn't find that with this scent at all. The Blackcurrant Absinthe scent is stronger, likely due to the base notes in it. When you hurl around anise, patchouli, and amber scents, it's no surprise it has more throw. And don't worry, it doesn't smell like patchouli or anything. The fruity top and middle notes mellows it all out. I've only been using the cuticle oil for a week or 2 so I can't claim any long-term results, but it has done a great job at keeping my nails and cuticles in top shape.

What an awesome set from Static Lacquer! Don't forget, everything is available now for purchase. You can check out Static Lacquer on their websiteFacebookGroup, and Instagram pages.

Pepper Pot Polish The Final Girls Collection Swatches & Reviews: Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome and The Cutie

*purchased with a blogger discount*

Hi guys! Whoa, we got so much snow this weekend! We get a couple snow "storms" a year, but they usually aren't much. I grew up in northwest Ohio, so I am used to loads of snow. But yeah, we got over a foot of snow and ice. You know what that means: snow day! I got a lot done on my extra day off. I almost got caught up on 90 Day Fiancé, worked out a bit, and made a large homemade dinner. How's the weather in your neck of the woods? Tonight I've got a couple shades from Pepper Pot Polish's The Final Girls Collection. The inspiration for this set is super unique and interesting. These were made for Mackenzie's love of horror movies and the heroine/survivor of these movies. If you're a flakie lover, you will love these!

Static Lacquer Summer 2018 Neon Collection Swatches & Reviews

*press samples*

Hi guys, TGIF! I'm back yet again this week to show you another new collection releasing this weekend. Mace Polish has changed names to Static Lacquer, and they are starting things off with a bang. It's a 6-piece set of neons that are black light reactive and also watermarble. Also releasing at the same time is their Crystalline (fast-drying 5-free topcoat, $7) and Overcast (10-free matte topcoat, $7) which I used for the swatches below. The names for each polish is inspired by the song The Afterglow from the band Silverstein. If you are interested, you can check out the song here:

The collection will release this Sunday, July 29th in the Static Lacquer site for $10 each or $46 for the whole collection. Neons are notoriously hard to capture, but I did my very best to show these as color accurate as possible. Without further ado, let's do this!

Noodles Nail Polish Summer 2018 Neon Trio and Crelly Swatches and Reviews

*press samples*

This is almost unheard of (for me)...3 days of blogging in a row! Taking the week off to grieve really put me behind. You wouldn't guess it, but I'm actually on vacation right now. My family is watching the animals while my husband and I visit Savannah, GA. I was just on the beach in Tybee Island a few hours ago and figured I should get my post up. I've been excited to show tonight's polishes since Natalie from Noodles Nail Polish mentioned she had some neons she was testing. She released a brighter trio at Polish Con and all leftovers were very quickly snatched up. The trio + crelly releasing this Saturday, July 28th at noon ET will retail for $9.50 each (only sold individually) and will restock at the same time on Aug. 1st should they sell out. Oh, and all of them are black light reactive, but more on that later. Follow me after the break for lots more photos.

OPI Fall 2016 Washington DC Collection Swatches and Review: Never a Dulles Moment

OPI Never a Dulles Moment (3 coats)

Hi guys! Man, I did not expect to have that hiatus last week. I was completely slammed at work and had 10+ hour days with a 2 hour commute each day. Today was still crazy, but not quite as bad. Please bear with me while I get back to normal. Tonight I have another one from OPI, this time from the Washington DC collection.

Never a Dulles Moment is a mustardy yellow creme. I've been to the Dulles Airport a few times in my day, but I don't have a ton of memories of it. I've mostly just gone there as a connection to another city. Like most yellow cremes, this one is a little on the streaky side. It evens out on the third  coat (or the second if you use thicker coats), but it it's not the best at self-leveling. This makes it sound like it didn't apply well, but that's not true. For a yellow, it applied well. I know this isn't a traditional color, but that makes me love it even more!

OPI polishes retail for $10.50 and you can find them at your local Sally's Beauty Supply and Ulta stores. Find out more information about OPI on their FacebookInstagram, and Twitter pages.

Different Dimension Polish Con 2017 Exclusive Swatches and Review: Not in the Loop and Where You Bean?

Hi guys! It's Thanksgiving week! I'm not 100% sure what my posting schedule will be like later in the week, but I will be doing as much as possible. In other blog news, I got a new light box and new lighting! I have no idea how it's going affect my swatches, but I'm hoping they will only get better. I bet you thought I was done with the Different Dimension polishes, right? I'm not! Tonight I have 2 of Different Dimension's Polish Con exclusives which you can still purchase now! Shall we get a closer look?
