Wordless Wednesday's Nails & Nibs with Monteverde Regatta and BB Couture Pale Poppy
So what is Wordless Wednesday's Nails & Nibs?
My husband and I both have blogs, so we decided to join forces and be a part of Wordless Wednesday where I'll show an old polish that I had terrible pictures of, or new polishes I don't have much to talk about. The pens will vary depending on what my husband has on hand, but we will try to make sure they sort of go together. Enjoy!

I don't say this very often, but if you like my blog, please feel free to become a Google Follower (side bar), a Twitter follower, a Facebook follower, or an Instagram follower. It helps companies know that I have wonderful people like you sharing in my nail obsession and we can communicate more (which I hope we can do). TGIF!

Comparison Time: Oranges!
Thumb: BB Couture Glistening Sandz
Index: OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear?
Middle: Essie Vermillionaire
Ring: Essie Orange, It's Obvious
Pinkie: Zoya Heidi
All 2 coats except for the OPI which is the polish that doesn't really belong (very sheer and jellyish unlike the rest of them). These are pretty close, eh?
P.S. How shoddy was my work (and pictures) back in the day? I'm almost embarrassed to bring some of these back!

Indie Nail Brands: Happy Hands Nail Polish in Springs
Happy Hands Springs (2 coats) over BB Couture Hangover Blues (1 coat)
Ok, so I sort of forgot to upload the last Hunger Games polish to my computer, so I am just going to show an indie nail brand instead. No worries, I'll make sure to finish up the China Glaze polishes tomorrow, I promise. I love turquoise. It's one of those colors I somehow don't have very many of, but when I get one, I fall in love instantly. For example, when I saw Happy Hands Nail Polish in Springs on their Etsy site, I knew I had to get it. You know how hard it usually is to get indie polishes from Etsy, right? Well, Kristi opens up the shop every Saturday at 5 PM, and you don't have to have the fastest internet in town to get a polish or 2.
Springs is a bright turquoise blue jelly with small white and larger iridescent glitters. I couldn't fish out too many of the larger ones, but I had a lot more on my right hand. It could definitely be opaque on its own with 3 coats, but I decided to put it over BB Couture's Hangover Blues to make sure there was no VNL. The color you see here is definitely the color of Springs, not Hangover Blues. I absolutely adore this color, and I can't wait to get the other 2 colors I don't own from Happy Hands yet.

BB Couture Vampy Varnish Collection: Mendocino Midnight
BB Couture Mendocino Midnight (2 coats)
This may be the worst description of a polish ever. Mendocino Midnight is just so hard to describe! Also, it was a real pain to capture correctly. All those negatives behind, I think this one is so unique. The color of it really depends on the light you use. It is a very deep teal color, with hints of green and blue in there with some green and pink shimmer throughout (you'll have to see the bottom picture for the small details). This collection was made with the help of the great nail polish blogger Vampy Varnish. I would love to have the entire collection, but I have to slowly get one here and there because of the price. Go on to Facebook and become a fan of Overall Beauty and you can use the code facebook5 for 15% off your order. If you spend over $25 you can use the code PLUS to have free shipping! This is a great sale from Kim, so stop on by and pick up your favorite BB Couture polishes.

BB Couture Cantina Nights Collection: Hangover Blues
BB Couture Hangover Blues (2 coats)
I am so happy that it's the US Open in tennis! I've been watching that part of today, and it reminds me of how into tennis I used to be. I actually played in high school and wasn't too bad! Unfortunately I don't have many people to play with anymore, but I'm trying to get my husband to start again.
I love the name of Hangover Blues. I've been listening to Canned Heat recently, and for you young people out there reading this, you will probably remember them from Woodstock and their famous songs Going Up the Country and On the Road Again (links to some youtube videos). They brought back the blues rock sound in the late 60s. Ok, enough of that! This is a nail polish blog! Hangover Blues is a light sky blue shimmer that is absolutely gorgeous! I swear, if you look closely at the bottle you can see the slight silver shimmer in the polish. Unfortunately on the nail the shimmer doesn't really show up very much. I don't care, the color makes up for it! I also had no issues with formula or application with this one. Overall, I am a huge fan of the polishes I bought from the Cantina Nights collection. Part of me wants to buy the other polishes in the collection, but since BB Couture has just released 2 new collections called the Infamous Lovers collections, I'll just have to buy a few of those instead :-D

BB Couture Cantina Nights Collection: Huckleberry Martini
BB Couture Huckleberry Martini (2 coats)
I would love it if purple polishes actually showed up purple in pictures. What is the deal? I have honestly tried every setting on my camera, but it just doesn't look right. And my camera isn't even crappy (well, as fast as technology gets "old" I guess mine is pretty crappy)! Huckleberry Martini is less blue in real life, but it shows up that way because it has blue shimmer in the purple polish. While I did enjoy this one, I think it was my least favorite of the four polishes I got. It just wasn't quite as unique as most of their polishes. Again, the application and formula was just great and I had no problems at all. What do you guys think of it?

BB Couture Cantina Nights Collection: Blue Bahama
BB Couture Blue Bahama (2 coats)
It's the return of the lobster hands! Since several of the next polishes are blue, expect lobster hands to return a few more times. Rejoice! I have no idea what it is about blue polishes that causes that. What weird things cameras do. I just got home from Ulta where I used my 20% off coupon to buy some of the new Sally Hansen Xtreme Wears (yay for glitter!) and one polish from the Essie Fall collection (the green one).
I am extremely excited about Blue Bahama. It is a deep blue base with lots of blue and green shimmer throughout. The color you get really depends on the light source. While eating dinner the other night with friends, they all thought it looked green, but as you can see in the pictures, it is definitely blue. Application was more as expected from BB Couture and and only needed 2 coats with no formula issues at all. Man, I really love BB Couture polishes!

BB Couture Cantina Nights Collection: Grasshopper
BB Couture Grasshopper (3 coats)
Ok, I lied. Again. I said I was actively trying to get back on Eastern Standard Time, but in fact, I've been sticking with my Pacific Time zone pretty exclusively. I know, this makes me a really later riser. Basically my life will consist of writing papers/my dissertation for the next few months so I guess I won't really have any good stories of my life to include before I finally decide to start writing about the nail polish of the day. You know, the stuff most of you glaze over to get to the good stuff ;-)
I've finally bought a few more BB Couture polishes! I absolutely love BB Couture, but with the slightly higher price range they have to be more of a luxury product for me. I have half of the Cantina Nights Collection to show you guys. Tonight is Grasshopper which is a lime green base with a fine shimmer of blue, gold and green. You guys know my feelings on shimmers, so you probably know what I'm going to say next. I love this one! BB Couture is really known for their greens, and this one doesn't disappoint. I love how they know how to include different colors of shimmer to really add depth to a polish. This one is slightly sheerer than most of my BB Couture polishes, and needed a full three coats for full coverage, but I had no issues with application whatsoever. What a great start to the collection! You can find BB Couture polishes from Kim at Overall Beauty. If you sign up for their newsletter you can often find some sale codes.

Pale Poppy
BB Couture Pale Poppy (3 coats)
Pale Poppy is the lighter version of Poppy Passion I showed a few days ago. It is a bright coral creme that is a favorite of mine. Application was a dream and needed 3 coats to be opaque.
I will be going out of town this holiday season. I'm not 100% sure of the internet access there, so I may not be able to check my e-mail while gone. I will, however, do my best to continue posting photos during my time away. I'll be in town until Wednesday, so hopefully I will have some fun holiday polishes for you!

Poison Ivy
BB Couture Poison Ivy (2 coats)
I love green polishes and Poison Ivy doesn't disappoint. It is a mid-tone green creme that is not too light or not too dark. The formula was slightly thick, but not too bad. As always this one was a little harder to apply since it is a creme. This is one is a keeper though!

Moonlight Magenta
BB Couture Moonlight Magenta (2 coats)
Moonlight Magenta is a frosty pink/magenta color that reflects some blue. I loved the application on this-it was really smooth. I don't really mind frosts unlike most people, but this one isn't my favorite BB Couture polish. There's really nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't stand out.
On a different note, did anyone order any Rescue Beauty Lounge polishes yesterday? I ended up ordering 2 which will be swatched when they arrive. If I'm lucky, Santa is going to bring me a few more :-D

Moonlight Malibu
BB Couture Moonlight Malibu (3 coats)
Today is Day 3 of BB Couture week! Moonlight Malibu is a very dark blue jelly with loads of microglitter throughout. The glitter in this one looks a lot like what is in Catalina Cutie. Application on this was just fine.

Catalina Cutie
BB Couture Catalina Cutie (3 coats)
Today is Catalina Cutie. At first I thought this would be more pink, but this one is definitely a peach color with loads of microglitter. Application was smooth, but needed three thick coats to cover (and it probably could have used one more). Overall, this is a fun polish and I really enjoy it.

Poppy Passion
BB Couture Poppy Passion (3 coats)
Welcome to BB Couture Week! I have enjoyed this brand for a long time, so I wanted to show my love by having a week dedicated to their polishes. Up first is Poppy Passion. As I have said many times, reds aren't usually my favorite polishes, but this polish may convert me! It is a red jelly with lots of orange in it. It definitely reminds me of a poppy flower. The application was slightly watery and needed three coats to be opaque.

Glistening Sandz
BB Couture Glistening Sandz (2 coats)
Glistening Sandz is a beautiful orange coral creme from BB Couture. Although this seems like a great summer color, I don't always follow nail "trends." If I feel like wearing a polish I am going to wear it. I usually don't care if I put a "summer" polish on in the winter, and I don't really care if my nail polish doesn't match my clothes. I just love polish because I can be working on something, and I'll see a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye and I get to admire the color throughout the day. This color is one of those that just brightens my day. Application was wonderful and very pigmented like most BB Couture polishes.
As always, you can purchase these polishes at Overall Beauty.

Frosty
BB Couture Frosty Meadow (2 Coats)
Frosty Meadow is a nice green glitter from BB Couture. This isn't quite an emerald green, but it is pretty close. The glitter doesn't stand out too much which might be nice for some of you. No application issues on this polish. Overall, it's a nice go-to color. As always, you can purchase the BB Couture polishes from Overall Beauty.

Seashell
BB Couture Seashell (3 coats)
At first I didn't think Seashell was an appropriate name for this polish, but after thinking about it for a few seconds, I guess it fits. It does look like the inside of a conch shell. This is a very girly pink creme, but it's not my favorite. It was fairly sheer (as it needed at least 3 coats) and sort of reminds me of an Essie. Despite it not being my favorite color, it did apply wonderfully.

Dupe?
BB Couture Venice Party (2 coats)
Rescue Beauty Lounge recently released polishes based on wants from several well-known nail bloggers. One favorite color was called Scrangie that was a purple color with hints of blue and green. They claim there is no dupe out there, but I find Venice Party to be pretty close. For those of you, like me, who are on a budget, this BB Couture polish is half the price of the RBL's Scrangie. Also, there are sometimes specials on the Couture polishes. I'm sorry I don't have any comparison pictures (again, it was too expensive), but there are several pictures on Makeup Alley and the Scrangie blog that you can find. Venice party is a bluish purple with hints of multicolored shimmer (including green). I hope you like it!
