Shadow Play
Melissa Wehrle worked horizontal tucks along a center panel to create this three-dimensional rectangular scarf in which alternating bands of fingering and laceweight yarn provide an interesting play of color and density. Although the tucks take a little bit of concentration, the pick-up rows coincide with the boundaries between the two yarns and are therefore easy to spot. Worked in needles larger than typical for the yarn weight, this scarf has an open, ruffly appearance that works up quickly. Instead of joining new yarn for each horizontal band, floats are simply carried up along the slip-stitch selvedge.
