My Technique Wish List

I have REALLY been out of the loop the past three years with cool techniques being shared online.  Of course, many of them I discovered on Pinterest.  Once you enter that rabbit hole, you will never leave! So I have been feverishly saving away the many cool techniques I see.  Most recently, I made a couple of the Twist & Pop up cards.  Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures!  I will have to make another and share with you all.  As I go through my list of techniques, I will post my results and the place you can go for the directions.  I am contemplating some more videos.  My daughter has been sharing my Youtube channel with friends like I'm a celebrity and INSISTS I have to make some more videos!

NOTE: the list below are clickable links which take you to the technique.

Building Block Cards

I had a moment of panic today....I realized that my domain expired two weeks ago and my links weren't working. It has since been fixed but thinking my years of blogging was gone forever made me realize that I NEED to get back to blogging. I loved sharing with all of you and knowing my work gave people so much joy really gave me the drive and inspiration I needed to get back into it. Life has a way of getting in the way of your fun sometimes. I have had so many changes in my life over the past 5 years, some very positive and some not so great. I finally took the time to clear out a space on my desk and create. These were cards I actually made for people vs just creating to share on the site. There is so much more personal satisfaction in giving your creations to someone. I encourage you all to do it more often (just take pics of your work for posterity!)

Anyway, I wanted to share some projects I created using a tutorial from Splitcoast stampers called the Building Block Card. This technique can be found here:

https://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/buildingblockcard/

I can't promise I will be posting daily like I used to, but I WILL be posting more often than once or twice a year! LOL

Puppy Love

I shared this cool technique on my blog back in Oct 2011.  It's still a lot of fun today!  For the step by step tutorial on making an Accordion Peeker Card, please visit my blog HERE.

I used this technique to make this adorable dog card.  I used the August 2013 Stamp of the Month set.

Punch Art Slider Snowgirl

I was really excited when Peachy Keen came out with the newest set of face stamps called Piles of Smiles. This set is available in both a 1" and 3/4" size, perfect for punch art!  The set contains all of my favorite faces from the past few Stamp of the Month sets.  You will definitely want to add the PK-146 Piles of 1" Smiles to your collection.   Check out this awesome assortment!

Here is my card with the slide in both positions.  If the instructions I provide are not detailed enough, you can check out the original double slider tutorial at the Splitcoast Stampers site HERE.  Obviously I modified the card to show my pop up character on the front instead of a sentiment.

Supplies:
Note: all punches, ink pads and card stocks used are from Stampin' Up!

1-3/8" Circle, Full Heart, Boho Blossoms, Cupcake Builder, Modern Label, 1/2" Circle, Word Window punches
Pink Pirouette, Chocolate Chip, Cherry Cobbler, Bashful Blue, Wild Wasabi, Shimmery White card stocks
Designer papers of choice
Basic Black, Pretty in Pink, Not Quite Navy, Garden Green ink pads
Pentel white gel pen, quicky glue pen, dazzling diamonds glitter
Dimensionals, sticky strip, tombow liquid glue

Instructions:
Step 1
To create the girl, punch the following pieces:
(1) 1-3/8" Circle from pink pirouette - HEAD
(2) Cupcake Builder (top) from chocolate chip - HAIR
(3) Modern Label from polkadot print - SCARF
(1) Full Heart from red print - HAT
(1) 1-3/8" Circle from red print - BODY
(6) Boho Blossoms from Shimmery White - HAT
(2) 1/2" Circles from cherry cobbler - MITTENS

Stamp the face with basic blank ink.  Color in whites of eyes with gel pen.  Color pink onto nose with blender pen and stipple/sponge pink onto cheeks.  Sponge edge of head with pretty in pink ink.

Step 2
Glue hair onto sides of head.  Glue hat onto top of head.  Glue 5 boho blossoms along hat brim and add blossom with dimensional to top of hat.  Glue head onto body.  Cut one modern label in half and glue at neck.  Glue other modern labels onto scarf at neck.

Step 3
Cut bashful blue cardstock 4-1/4" x 11" and fold in half.  Using word window punch, align side of punch at score line and slide towards center of card as far as it will go and punch.

Step 4
Repeat step 3 on other side so you have 2 slots side by side.  Punch four 1/2" circles from scrap card stock. Add a dimensional to the center of 2 circles.  On each slot, place dimensional into slot from back and attach other 1/2" circle to create sliding circles.

Step 5
For the slider card, cut a piece of wild wasabi 3-1/2" x 5-3/8".  Decorate top of card as desired (keep in mind how much will show when card is assembled).  Glue 1-3/8" punched circle folded in half at top of card.  With the card base open and slots positioned on bottom half, lay card onto top half.  Add glue to the two slider circles and close card.  The circles will stick to the slider card.  Allow glue to dry.

Step 6
Open card back up and add sticky strip along outer edges as shown.  Close card to adhere sides.

Step 7
On front of card, glue snow girl body to one of the sliding circles.

Step 8
Cut a 3-1/2" x 4-1/4" piece of Shimmery white card stock and tear along the top.  Apply glue and glitter along top torn edge.  Attach to front of card (along side and bottom edges) with dimensionals.  Tear several other pieces of shimmery white card stock.  Add glitter to edges and layer onto front of card to create "snow bank".  The snow bank should cover most of the girl.  Attach mittens at top of snowbank on each side of girl.  Stamp a greeting onto the front of card.  Note: I changed the design of my sliding card after the pictures were taken. Adding layers to the top of sliding card has a tendency to "catch" the upper edge of the card base when sliding in and out.

Showcase Card Technique

Today I have the feature over at My Creative Time and I'm going to show you how to create a Showcase Card.  I used the awesome Fly Me Away collection.  There is an image set, sentiment set and die set.  You may recall the circus tent with baby elephant card I made a couple weeks ago HERE.  At that time I said I would try and come up with the tutorial once I perfected the technique.  Here is my first version of the technique.  Down the road, I'll share an A2 size card which may be a little tricky given the smaller size.  This finished card when folded flat is 6" x 6" in size.  You will notice that the front frame is smaller than the back on the easel.  I did this so that when it's folded flat, it's exactly 6x6.  If you want to make the front frame the same size as the back, you can.  Just note that when it folds flat, it will be larger than 6x6.  Of course, if you don't plan on putting it in an envelope, it doesn't matter!  Please download the step by step tutorial in pdf format.  The link is below the picture.

Pedestal Pop Up Technique

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
You may have recalled me sharing a technique last year called the Pedestal Pop Up.  I originally created it for a CPC class HERE.  This time around, I wrote the tutorial for Splitcoast Stampers.  Check out my written tutorial HERE.  The butterflies and greeting are from the Inspired by Stamping set called Butterfly Wings.  The flower was created using a Nestability die with some Stampin' Up! punches.  The video tutorial is embedded below.

Tractor Time

I saw this new Peachy Keen stamp set and knew instantly who I was going to make a card for!  My stepdad is a John Deere man and I thought I'd make a "cute" John Deere.  I hope he doesn't think it's "too cute"!

If you come back on Thursday, you'll get to see all of the images in the PK-122 Funny Farm set.  Until then, here is the sneak peek:

I call this style card a Modified Tri-Shutter.  I originally shared this technique HERE.  All of the designer papers and embellishments are from the July Peachy Picks paper kit from Peachy Keen.  I love paper piecing, but boy, is it time consuming!  I think it took me a good 2 1/2 hours to make this card!

Slider Kids

happy happy joy joy!  It's time for more Peachy Keen Stamps to come out!  This month is a real doozy!  Not only is the Stamp of the Month set a real beauty, but the other add-on sets are fantastic and the Peachy Picks Kit is perfect!

Today, I'm going to show you this little slider card I made with the July Stamp of the Month set.  I also used papers from the Peachy Picks kit.  I can't show you the goodies until Thursday when they officially come out, but  if you come back here, you'll get to see all of the images.  They are truly wonderful!  Be sure to head over to the PKS Blog to see all of the other fantastic projects by the design team HERE.

For the slider card, when the slider is pushed down, the little kids are hiding behind the fence.  When you pull  the tab up, their heads pop up.  This technique is detailed on Splitcoaststampers HERE.  I modified it so that instead of a message popping up in the front, the kids pop up instead.  It's so super easy, give it a try!

Supplies:
Peachy Keen July 2012 Stamp of the Month set
Peachy Picks paper kit
Woodgrain embossing folder (for fence)
Pink pirouette, so saffron, chocolate chip, shimmery white card stocks
Bashful Blue, Blushing Bride, More Mustard, Regal Rose, Black ink pads
Unibal white gel pen (for eyes)
1/2" Circle (for hands)

WooHoo Wednesday Modified Tri-shutter Card Tutorial

For today's edition of WooHoo Wednesday over at Inspired by Stamping, I created this tutorial for making a modified Tri-Shutter card.  It's so simple to create, you won't believe it!  Here is a picture of my finished card, both closed and open.

I made the tutorial with fairly large pictures.  To keep the load time of this page down, I created a downloadable PDF document that you can save and print whenever you need to refer to it.  Below is the download link for the file:

I would love to see what you create with this tutorial!  Please feel free to email me a link to your blog if you post your creation.  I may add some of those links at the bottom of this post for additional inspiration.

Pop Up Gift Tag Tutorial

As promised this morning, I'm sharing the tutorial to create a pop up gift tag as featured on THIS POST.  When I got my newest Sizzix die from Stampin' Up!, I knew right away what I wanted to do.  The frames on the Bigz L Peekaboo Frames die is perfect for this technique. If you don't have the die, you can make a full size pop up card as instructed on Splitcoast Stampers HERE.  Once again, I got to use this beautiful set from Inspired by Stamping called Christmas Cheer.  Check out all of Joanna's beautiful stamps HERE.  I discovered that the swirly tree fits perfectly inside the Pennant Punch from Stampin' Up!  How cool is that?

Accordion Peeker Card Technique

As promised, here is the step by step tutorial for the Accordion Peeker Card Technique.  This technique was featured on my card from yesterday's LFIF challenge.  For the tutorial on making the sailor boy, please go HERE.

Instructions:

Step 1
For the accordion spines, cut 2 pieces of 5-3/4" x 8" card stock (Soft Sky in sample).  On the long side, score at 1/2", 1", 1-1/2", 1-3/4", 2", 2-1/2", 3", 3-1/4", 3-1/2", 4", 4-1/2", 4-3/4", 5", 5-1/2", 6", 6-1/4", 6-1/2", 7", 7-1/2".   Accordion fold each piece.

Step 2
On the backside of each accordion piece, apply glue to the 1/4" wide sections and pinch those sections together.  The finished piece should look like this:

Accordion fold the pieces again so that they look like this.  The 1/4" glued sections will point to the inside of the card when assembled.

Step 3
For front of card, cut a 6" x 6" piece of card stock (Soft Sky used).   Cut a frame into the center (circle, nestabilities, etc.).  Make sure you have at least 1" from opening of frame to outer left and right edge of card stock.  This way, the accordion spines do not show on the inside.  Decorate the front of card (I punched out waves and added a few to bottom of card with some overlapping bottom of frame).  Flip card front over and attach accordion to each side of card as shown (glue or tape 1/2" scored section on end of accordions making sure that the glued 1/4" sections are facing up at this point).  When attaching accordions to the card front, align the second score line along the outer edge of the card.  A close up is provided).

Step 4
Cut a 6" x 6" piece of card stock for back of card (Soft Sky) and decorate.  Make 4 panels to go on inside of card, attached to accordion spines.  Create 4 panels for inside of card.  If you want, you can cut pieces 5" x 5" and cut a frame in the center of each piece for the "tunnel" look.  For mine, I cut 4 strips of cardstock 5" x 1" and attached die cut pieces of designer paper to the top of each for waves.

Step 5
On the back side, attach one panel at a time.  The one you want to be in the front will go on first, etc.  Glue the ends of each panel onto the 1/4" wide sections as shown.

Step 6
Attach the second panel in the same manner.  You may want to shift it upward so that it is visible behind the first panel.

Step 7
Attach the 3rd and 4th panels in the same manner, again shifting it a little upward so it's more visible.

Step 8
After all panels are in place, fold over the ends of each spine and add glue or tape along outer 1/2" section as shown.  Attach back of card, making sure to align edges of front and back pieces.

The fully assembled card will look like this on the side.

ENJOY!  Please link to my tutorial if you create an accordion peeker card and post online.  Thank you!
