Negative Space “Racing Stripes” + Tutorial (Valentine’s Version)

Wednesday, February 05, 2014
Hi everyone!

I’m back with some negative space nails for you today.  It’s funny, because I used to never really care for the negative space look, but ever since my nails are no longer yellow-stained, I just can’t get enough of them!

The “racing stripes” idea was actually inspired by a video I found by Jin Soon on Sephora’s website.  It’s such a simple design and I absolutely love the look of it.

I went with a blue theme originally, because I’ve been dying to use Color Club Bright Night and Barry M Blueberry Gelly, and I think they look gorgeous together.  I really loved wearing them!

I filmed a tutorial for these nails as well, but instead of the blues, I created a Valentine’s version with a few different shades of pink (CND Taffy Pink & Girlie Pink, and Orly Miss Conduct).  You can watch the video down below!

Enjoy! :)

White Negative Space Mix & Match Nails

Monday, January 06, 2014
Hello everyone!

I created some black and white negative space nail art on my thumbs last week (which I never ended up posting), and I loved them so much that I was inspired to create some more negative space nails.

This time, I decided to keep them all white, and I am really happy with how they turned out. :)

For the base, I used one coat of Julep Gwyneth (a sheer pink) and one coat of Nicole by OPI Imagine If… (a fine holographic flake shimmer in a clear base).  Then, I used one of my favorite white polishes for nail art, Nars Ecume, and a 5/0 brush from Michael’s to create each pattern.

I painted a simple grid on my index nail, hearts on my middle nail, and tiny polka dots on my pinky.  On my ring finger, which turned out to be my favorite nail, I painted a houndstooth print;  I’ve tried houndstooth once before and it wasn’t exactly right, but I’m really proud of it this time.

I’ve been wearing these nails for several days now, so I thought I would take a few photos of both hands as well!

I hope you all enjoy these as much as I do, and thank you for reading! :)

Negative Space Rose Nails + Tutorial

Saturday, November 23, 2013
Hi everyone!  I have a quick post today, but it includes a new tutorial!

I created these negative space style rose nails for Nail It! Magazine's bridal theme that I noticed on Instagram recently.  I will be entering these nails for consideration, so I'm hoping they make it into the March/April issue.  Wish me luck! :)

I love the design I came up with; I think it looks more complicated than it actually is (quite a few people on Instagram actually thought I stamped it!), and yet it's very delicate with a bit of blind.  I think I might even have to try them in different color combinations in the near future .. Maybe a darker version!

Elevation Polish Mount Feathertop, Essie Blanc, China Glaze Angel Wings, Orly Prisma Gloss Silver, and a brush (size 10/0) I got at Michael's recently.

 And a little bonus shot:
This was my original accent nail idea, but I ended up going with a simple gold nail instead.

Here is the video if you would like to see how I created them:

Enjoy!

Thank you for reading! :)

31 Day Challenge - Day 3: Yellow Nails

Wednesday, September 04, 2013
I rarely wear yellow on my nails, but I knew exactly the yellow I was going to use for Day 3 of the 31 Day Challenge (#31DC2013); Lime Crime's Crema de Limon.

Crema de Limon is a very pretty soft yellow, and while I'm not sure if the formula is streaky on it's own, I decided to use it as a gradient with Essie Blanc to skip any application issues.  I topped the gradient with China Glaze Golden Enchantment (my bottle is very sad looking!), and a few pyramid studs from Born Pretty Store.

On my accent nail, I have one coat of Elevation Polish Mount Feathertop, then I placed some striping tape vertically on my nail, and applied the same gradient as the other nails to create a "negative space" design.  I added a small round stud near the cuticle, and topped it with Golden Enchantment as well.

By the way, if you are ordering anything from Born Pretty Store, you can use the code KSG10 to get 10% off your order, with free shipping worldwide!

Thank you for reading! :)
