The HKU-Shenzhen Hospital has obtained official approval for 11 programs under the Shenzhen Sanming “The Sanming” Project of Medicine, with special funds totaling RMB 130 million. To take up the Sanming project, 11 top medical teams were invited to enhance clinical treatment service, medical staff training, teaching and research related to the following approved programs:
Reproductive Medicine: The Reproductive Medicine Center has invited the team of Professor Kristina Gemzell-Danielsson from Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
Radiation Oncology: The Oncology Medical Center has invited the team of Princess Margaret Cancer Center of the University of Toronto, the largest single facility radiotherapy center in North America.
Integrated Airways Disease Management: The Division of Respiratory Medicine has invited the Integrated Airways Disease Team led by Professor Kian Fan Chung from Imperial College London.
Spinal Diseases and Deformities: The Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology has invited an expert team in spine surgery led by Prof. Kenneth Cheung and Prof. John CY Leong from Hong Kong.
Liver Transplantation: The HPB Surgery Division has invited the World Class Liver Transplant Team led by Prof. Chung-Mau Lo of Queen Mary Hospital. Professor Lo is an internationally renowned expert in hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation.
Breast Cancer and Diseases: The Breast Surgery Division has invited the “Top Team for Treatment of Breast Cancer & Diseases” led by Professor Michael Dixon from the University of Edinburgh.
Infectious Diseases: The Department of Infectious Disease and Microbiology has invited the HKU infectious disease team led by Prof. Kwok-Yung YUEN,who is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (Medicine and Health), American Academy of Microbiology (Medicine) and a founding academician of the Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong.
High Risk Neonates: The Department of Pediatrics has invited the integrated diagnosis and treatment group for high risk neonates from Canada, Institute of neonatology, led by Professor Shoo Kim Lee. Professor Lee is the founder and Chairman of Canadian Neonatal Network and a senior advisor of WHO.
Cardiovascular Imaging Precision Medicine: The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine has invited the Cardiovascular imaging team on precision medicine team led by Professor Dudley Pennell of Imperial College London Royal Brompton Hospital. Professor Pennell is an academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of UK and the head of the Cardiovascular Disease Bio-Medical Research Department of UK National Institute for Health Research.
Severe Trauma Standardized Treatment: The Division of Traumatology has invited the team led by Prof. Baoguo JIANG from Peking University People's Hospital. Prof. JIANG is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and a chief scientist of the national 973 Program, holding positions as Director of the National Center for Trauma Medicine, Chairman of International Trauma Rescue & Treatment Association, and Chairman of China Trauma Rescue & Treatment Association.
Thoracic Oncology and Thoracic Surgery: The Division of Thoracic Surgery has invited the team led by Prof. Jianxing HE (Director of the National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease) from Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health. The introduction of the team will promote the clinical research and development of multidisciplinary treatment of lung cancer and thoracic organ transplantation centered on minimally invasive surgery, and facilitate the introduction of new projects and technologies concerning precise early diagnosis of lung cancer and non-intubated minimally invasive surgery, thus benefiting patients in the Greater Bay Area.
