Toes in the Sand: Block 4

The fabrics above correspond to the block fabrics at the top of page 12 in the pattern book. You'll need a fat eighth of each fabric for the Twin size quilt.

If you're making a Queen size quilt, make 2 of the purple blocks and 3 of the lime green blocks for the queen quilt top. To make the blocks for a Queen quilt top, you may want a half yard of the Lucy - Pineapple, then you'll need fat quarters of the rest of each fabric.

Julie will sew 1 block a month live in the Jaybird Quilts Sew Alongs Facebook group on the first Tuesday of each month in 2022. The live videos will be saved so group members can watch replays of it. The live videos will not be made public to view on other platforms, they will be exclusive to the Facebook group.

If you have an original version of the pattern book released in 2012 (top image), you can receive a PDF of the pattern updates that are a part of the 10th Anniversary edition (bottom image) here.

Welcome back to the Toes in the Sand Block of the Month sew along!

It's OK if you don't have your fabrics yet. There's no rush to sew right away. We're making this information available early on each month so that you'll have it handy once you're all set to cut and sew.

To make the blocks for a Queen quilt top you may want a half yard of the Pretty in Pink - Dragonfruit flamingos, fat quarters of the Hexy - Thistle & Stargazer solid, and fat eighths of the Tanzanite and Lucy - Dragaonfruit.

Toes in the Sand in Tula Pink Daydreamer: 10th Anniversary Edition

Toes in the Sand Block of the Month Quilt

Featuring Daydreamer by Tula Pink

This Block of the Month design features 12 unique blocks all created with the Hex N More Ruler. There are no pesky Y seams! Each month you'll create two blocks from the same design. Creative fabric placement will make the quilt appear to have 24 different blocks. All of the pieces are rotary cut from fabric strips and machine pieced. Toes in the Sand is a Twin size quilt, 64" x 84". You can also make a Queen size quilt, 97" x 96".

Toes in the Sand was my first Block of the Month design. I released in 2012 and it was my love letter to California that I designed after moving across the country from Philadelphia to San Diego. While on maternity leave this spring I recolored the design using the latest Tula Pink fabrics and the 10th anniversary edition of the quilt came to be.

I updated the book with the new book cover shown above for its 10th anniversary. The 10th anniversary edition of the book also includes the following updates or additions:

New colors for the block directions.
An updated quilt top layout.
Bonus directions to make a Queen size quilt top.

If you already own a copy of the Toes in the Sand book and you'd like to download a PDF of the updated quilt top layout and the bonus directions to make a Queen size quilt top, fill out this form and you'll receive the PDF right away.

The 10th anniversary edition of the books will be shipping to shops this month. You might get an original copy or the updated version from your quilt shop.

This updated version of the quilt features all Tula Pink fabrics, including Tula Pink Solids, True Colors, Linework, and the highly anticipated Daydreamer to be released late 2021.

Will there be a Jaybird Quilts Facebook Group for this BOM?

We recently launched the new Jaybird Quilts Sew Alongs facebook group. Julie will sew 1 block a month live in the Jaybird Quilts Sew Alongs facebook group on the first Tuesday of each month. It is a private group and anyone is welcome to join when we have ongoing or upcoming sew alongs.

How do we know which fabrics to use in the blocks?

We'll send an email out once a month with the names of the fabrics used in the blocks for that month, and if you're making the Queen size quilt, how many of each block to make for your quilt top. I've been a bad blogger

Did I really just go two weeks without blogging? eek! Sorry about that!

I wish I could say that I've been MIA because I have been busy sewing. Unfortunately I was MIA because I got sick... again. This is the 3rd time this year. I usually can't avoid getting sick at least once in the winter, but I can't tell you the last time I got sick this much. It hasn't been fun.

Anyway I was feeling a bit better yesterday and went to the San Diego Modern Quilt Guild meeting for the first time. It was nice to get out and meet some local quilters. It did also remind me how much I miss my friends in the Philadelphia MQG.

After they have their meetings they stay and sew. I grabbed a bunch of my Remix fabrics and figured I'd start working on my Toes in the Sand blocks.

I love how Ann Kelle keeps adding more prints to the Remix line. Did you know there are over 100 now!

I love these new big chevrons.

and the triangles... lets just be honest I love it all.

I made my first two blocks yesterday.

I'm going to mix all the new Remix fabrics with my stash of older Remix!

Toes in the Sand - Quilt Along!

Join us in the Toes in the Sand - Quilt Along!

Make 2 blocks each month and you'll have all 24 that you need for a twin size quilt at the end of 12 months. Work at your own pace. I've created a Flickr group where we can all share photos of our blocks.

Toes in the Sand!

Toes in the Sand is finally here!!

I've been busy shipping them out to shops & distributors so you should see them popping up in stores very soon!

I'm so incredibly happy with how they came out!! This is more a book than a pattern.

It is 8 1/2" x 11" and has almost 40 pages! It is all full color and full of everything you need to make 12 blocks!! The blocks are created using the Hex N More Ruler or the full size templates that are included in the book.

I would love for you to come join me & others that are going to make this quilt. I have created a Flickr group that will serve as a place to share photos, quilt-a-long style.

This book has 12 blocks that are intended to be made 2 a month for the course of a year. Many shops are participating in this block of the month. Some are featuring the same fabric, while others are using different fabrics.
