The Cutest Pumpkin in the Patch

Good morning, everyone!

I have another Fall layout today from the November kit at My Creative Scrapbook.

I frequently scrapbook holidays and events a year after they happen, e.g. I 'll scrap Christmas 2014 in December 2015. I like to scrapbook in the same season as the event, but since it takes me a bit to upload and edit photos and I work with designer deadlines, the holiday is often well past. So, I just hold the photos for next year. Thus, I made a layout of last year's pumpkin patch visit just last month, which you may remember.

In a break with tradition, I'm scrapbooking this year's pumpkin patch visit this year! The colors and icons in the November MCS kit worked perfectly for a pumpkin patch, so I got her done.

Here's a close-up of the page:

I have a simple style. I most often use a strong 4x6 photo as my focal point. I try to include a bit of journaling on my layouts too, but I didn't here. I handwrote the date (2015) and the title tells where we were. We go to this particular farm each year and other layouts about our visit to Hodges Farm tell a little more of the tradition.

This November kit featured a mix of Echo Park Paper and Doodlebug Designs. I used primarily Echo Park here.

This is the kit I used:

Avoiding the Sharks: A Surfing Layout

My family just got back from the North Carolina coast, and, yikes, it was a little scary for this Mom whose young son loves his boogie board. The sharks are circling and two teens lost limbs to shark bites at a neighboring beach.

I didn't want to make my son afraid of the ocean, so I didn't say much to him. Just tried to keep him as safe as I could: swimming in groups, avoiding the pier area and only going out in mid-afternoon (with lots of sunscreen).

Success. No sign of sharks and, best of all, I had a cute photo from last summer of Cory with his boogie board.

This is one of the layouts I made using the July kit from My Creative Scrapbook. I used a simple design with a long vertical strip down one side, very similar to the design I used last month for a different beach photo.

I loved how bright and sunny this kit was. You can see all the MCS kits here.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Sweet Summer: My Creative Scrapbook Reveal

Good morning. I hope you had a great Fourth of July holiday. It's always nice to kick back, have a cookout, see old friends, light a few sparklers and raise a toast to our founding fathers.

The new monthly kits are out for My Creative Scrapbook and they are perfect for documenting the Fourth of July or any other summer gathering. Like this one:

I designed with the Creative Kit which has a colorful mix of summer lines from Pebbles and Doodlebug.

I'm trying to be a little more purposeful about including visible journaling on my layouts. I sometimes journal on a tag I slip under the photo (I also like that method) but then I have to remove the layout from the protector to read it.

I took a card from the kit and ran it through my printer to add my journaling. I left a little room at the bottom for my title. I love these fun little cards that are featured in so many collections these days.

Here's a photo of the cute kit I worked with:

70 Letter Surprise: Using A Photo Collage

Good morning, everyone. Today, I have a simple layout made with a photo collage, a journaling card I ran through the printer, and the October kit from My Creative Scrapbook.

We had a big party for my Mom for her 70th birthday and I had several photos I wanted to use.  I used PicMonkey to make the collage, then printed it out as an 8 x 10 photo with a large white border. I trimmed down the white border to make the collage fit better on my 12 x 12 layout.

I wanted to add some journaling to this layout, but there was no room on the page itself. The kit contained a white cute die-cut card that I thought would work perfectly as a journaling spot.

I backed the die cut with orange patterned paper for a pop of color, used washi tape to adhere the card temporarily to regular printer paper then ran it through my printer. The photo trio below shows the steps I used and the finished journaling card.

After the journaling card was ready, I made a little pocket for it under my photo collage then slipped the card into the pocket. The card pulls out to reveal the hidden journaling.

Though this kit is Fall-themed not birthday themed, it worked out great by using the more neutral papers and palette. A cute and versatile kit!  Paper and embellishments are from Doodlebug Design

Can't Mask My Feelings: Doodlebug Design

Hello and happy Friday!  We're starting to gear up for Halloween around here, which made me think about last year's costume when Cory was a Ninja Turtle.

I made him a simple mask with craft foam and fabric ties and he loved wearing it. I snapped this photo of him last year, in his pjs, with his mask.

I printed the photo as a 4x6 on my layout, using the October kit at My Creative Scrapbook. The playful nature of the pattern papers from Doodlebug Design worked well with the photo. I cut the papers into strips then stitched them on cardstock with a zigzag stitch.

I happened to have a stamp in my stash that said: I can't mask my feelings for you.  It was perfect with the photo and cute raccoon journaling card. I added a punched leaf and a striped photo corner for a pop of color.

Have a great weekend!

Together Again: Anatomy of a Layout

If you are looking for the My Creative Scrapbook blog hop, please see this post.

Hi everyone. I'm back today with another project from My Creative Scrapbook's October kit. This cute kit featured the Friendly Forest collection from Doodlbug Design.

I loved the patterned paper with the words about Fall and wanted to feature it so I made it the base of my design. I layered a few other papers in the collection to make a horizontal photo mat near the bottom of the page.

The die cut card is from Jillibean Soup. It was white and a bit too stark for my layout, so I darken the card a bit with mist and sewed on a colorful ribbon. I backed the card with purple patterned paper from the kit to make it pop against the orange background. Then I added a couple stickers on top.

To the right of the large orange photo mat, I added a doily under the photo, a tab sticker and layered a flower on top of a large die cut leaf.

The layout was coming along but I needed a space for my title and I wanted to balance out the heaviness at the bottom on the page.  So I added a shipping tag to the top, colored it with mist then added some stickers, die cuts and my title.

Here's another look at the completed layout:

Before I left, I had been on the Design Team for the monthly scrapbook kit, My Creative Scrapbook. The owner was so sweet to hold my spot and welcome me back.  The full reveal of the October kit is not until Oct. 5, but I'm going to give you a few sneak peeks today.

Aw, Fall. Love it. Hay rides, pumpkin patches, falling leaves and candy. Lots of Halloween candy. How can you not love that?1

October is our birthday month at My Creative Scrapbook and we'll have a blog hop with terrific prizes from your favorite manufacturers. The hop starts Oct. 5.

Ribbon Flower Tutorial: The Good Life

Hello, everyone.  Today I have a summer page and ribbon flower tutorial.

I love this happy paper from Doodlebug that was included in the May kit at My Creative Scrapbook. I had a lot of fun with this page.  The background is made from one sheet of patterned paper.

The pink polka dot paper is the reverse side of the chevron stripe.  To use both sides, I carefully cut out the middle of the chevron paper using my trimmer. That gave me two pieces: the chevron and the polka dot.  In between, I layered a piece of white cardstock then stitched the 3 layers together.

Next, I added a photo mat, layering paper and stickers.  I also added hidden journaling under the photo with a pink pull-out tab.

To finish the page, I added a ribbon flower to the banner trio at the top. It was really easy to make.

I used the ribbon in the kit and cut three pieces, 5 inches in length. I folded each end of the ribbon to the middle and secured it.  I layered the ribbon loops on top of each other in a star shape.  To embellish it, I added a circle cut from burlap and a threaded ribbon.

The completed layout. Thank you for stopping by. Have a wonderful weekend!

Preschool Friends: Doodlebug Designs

I'm back today with another colorful page from the May kit at My Creative Scrapbook. The kit featured the Take Note collection from Doodlebug Designs.

This collection has an office supply theme and I thought the number paper and the bright colors worked well for this photo of my son with his preschool friends.  Though the kids' clothes don't match the orange and aqua featured in the patterned papers, I thought the overall colorful vibe worked. I don't worry much about matchy matchy and I very rarely convert my photos to black and white.

To play on the office supply theme, I made a paperclip flag as an embellishment on the journaling block.  I used an ordinary paper clip (included in the kit) as they base. I cut down a Doodlebug sticker then wrapped it around the paperclip to secure it.

To print the journaling on graph paper, I cut a piece of graph paper larger than I needed and adhered it to printer paper using washi tape.  I ran the paper through the printer, removed the washi tape then cut the journaling block accordingly. I left room at the top for embellishments.

I repeated the flag at the top of the layout, using a "hello" sticker and a bit of polka dot ribbon, also included in the kit.

The kits at My Creative Scrapbook are packed FULL of goodies. I look forward to mine each month. Pam, the owner, is running a special this month on the kits and you could win this awesome Prima package. Four prizes are up for grabs!

Dig Big: My Creative Scrapbook Reveal

It's time to reveal the May kits at My Creative Scrapbook!  I am excited to show you the projects I made this week with the Creative Kit, which features Doodlebug Designs.

Doodlebug is known for its colorful palette and I couldn't help but smile when playing with these happy papers.

The Doodlebug collection is called Take Note and is office-supply oriented, but I found the colors perfect for beach photos.

Here's a photo of the May kit:

My Creative Scrapbook revealed all the May kits this weekend. You can find them here.   I'll be back this week with more projects from this kit.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
