Spicy Tomato Sauce

- 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil shopping list
- 3 garlic cloves, minced shopping list
- 1 cup black olives, pitted and roughly chopped shopping list
- 1 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes shopping list
- 3 tablespoons capers, drained shopping list
- 2 (28-ounce) cans tomatoes (recommended: San Marzano), crushed by hand shopping list
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, hand torn shopping list
- kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper shopping list
How to make it
- Put a large saucepan over medium heat and add the olive oil. Add the garlic and cook 1 minute.
- Add the olives, red pepper flakes, and capers, and let that cook for 2 minutes, stirring often.
- Toss in the tomatoes with their juices and bring to a low simmer. Stir in the basil and season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside.
