Southern Smothered Squash

- 6-8 MEDIUM squash SLICED shopping list
- seasoning ( I USE NATURES seasoning) shopping list
- black pepper shopping list
- sugar OR SPLENDA (TO YOUR DESIRED TASTE) shopping list
- 1 LARGE yellow onion DICED shopping list
- SMOKED pork (YOU CAN USE ham, ham hocks, A pork chop OR bacon SLICES) shopping list
How to make it
- IN A CAST IRON SKILLET OR NON STICK SKILLET (COOKING THIS IN A CAST IRON SKILLET IS A MUST, BUT GO TO THE NON STICK IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS), ADD A LITTLE OIL, WARM THE OIL, ADD YOUR MEAT AND DICED ONION.
- SAUTEE FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES OVER A MEDIUM HEAT
- ADD SQUASH AND SEASONINGS
- ADD SUGAR OR SPLENDA
- COVER WITH A LID AND COOK UNTIL TENDER (WHICH WE CALL SMOTHERED)
- WITH THE SQUASH I ALSO COOKED SNAPPED GREEN BEANS WITH ONION & SMOKED PORK , FRIED PORK CHOPS AND JALEPENO & GREEN ONION CORNBREAD. I HAVE SUBMITTED A PICTURE OF OUR SUPPER TONIGHT. MY GREEN BEANS AND VEGETABLES WERE IN MY FREEZER. ALSO, FRESH SLICED TOMATOES WOULD BE DELICIOUS WITH THIS MEAL. THIS FRIENDS, IS A TYPICAL SOUTHERN MEAL.. ENJOY! ONE MORE THING, IF YOU LIKE THE SQUARE PLATE, IT COME FROM WALMART! HA!

I made this very dish just last night! I love it! In Alabama, we call it Fried Squash, and it MUST be cooked in a cast iron skillet! Delicious! Great post!
