Dumplings For Stew Recipe

How to make it

  • Add the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt to a med. bowl.
  • Cut in the butter until there are no large bits
  • Add the milk and beat until smooth.
  • Drop by spoon into the bubbling stew, try to get the dough on top of a potato and not in the liquid. See Photo
  • Cook, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
  • Cover and cook for an additional 15.
  • Serve and enjoy.

    Dec 31/16 Made this wonderful recipe again. it is fast to pull together. The only tweak I did was using my baster put a small amount of the base of the stew on top of the dumpling. Again family loved the dumpling.

    Made a pot of beef stew and because my DH is not a big fan of potato I usually leave them out but because I like some carbs I wanted to make dumplings instead of having bread. These are perfect!! I did add a few shakes of dried parsley for some color and interest but only because. I dropped spoonfuls of batter on top of the hot stew, covered, turned off heat but left on burner, then left sit for about 20 minutes. "Ta-Da" ... beautiful, fluffy, yummy, dumplings. Thanks Bren! just like I remember my moms.

    January 20/16 Wow what a fantastic recipe. I used this on top of Chicken Soup that I had made on Sunday. Fast and easy to pull together and use. Will be making again Thank you Brenda for this wonderful recipe.
