Feeling Random Friday #5 with Mia Winston

I can hardly believe it's already 2019!! As someone born at the tail end of 1969, I've gotta tell you I honestly thought we'd have flying cars by now, and everyone would have a robot butler. Joking aside, I've been thinking about 2019 a lot in terms of my life, relationships, career - everything. For over a year and a half I've only been partially living. I've been getting by day by day without really enjoying life. I've had a lot of obstacles to overcome that were emotional, mental, and physical. I'm tired of being tired, and I'm tired of not living my life to the fullest!

I L O V E New Year's Resolutions. Do I always keep them? No. Do I even remember the goal I set in January in December? Goodness no! But the ritual of thinking about my life, making an outline of where I'd like to go, and thinking about the possibilities for my life recharge me. I have been sick with bronchitis for over a week. Besides the time I had mono when I was 16, I cannot ever remember being this sick for this long. I took a full week of antibiotics, didn't start to feel better for three days, and still don't feel near being 100% well.

On thing I can be certain of in my future is that my soul will be uplifted by the stitching community, and I will do my part to uplift others. That's why I like writing this segment each week - it gives me an opportunity to lift up the art of others, and share their work with the world.

First up for 2019 is Mia of @winstonsart_ ! Mia combines mixed media elements to create texturally and visually beautiful hoops. She uses touches of sparkle with beads and sequins amongst the stitches. The hoop above reminds me of either an underwater reef, or a little pond with lily pads, tadpoles, and grasses. What does it remind you of?

You can find Mia on Instagram and Etsy. Here are some of my favorites from Mia's Instagram feed. I encourage you to check her out!

Feeling Random Friday #4 with Oz and Belle

Did you notice I didn't post last Friday? My good friend, Colleen, had her baby a week early on Tuesday, December 4th, and I have been absolutely smitten with him!! Until this past Saturday evening when I became ill, my life was focused on baby Caden and helping Colleen out around her house.

This week we feature Oz and Belle. They are two women, Gina and Sarah, who are friends, colleagues, and first-time mums. I love that the two of them are creating together with embroidery! I would love to have someone local to me who would want to stitch, create, and blog together.

I enjoy the colorfulness of their art, and also their use of mixed media in their embroidery. You can find them on Instagram, Etsy, their Website, Facebook, and their NuMONDAY shop.

Here are some of my favorites from Oz and Belle's Instagram feed!

Friday Instagram Finds No. 31 with Maya Frost

How are you doing today? Here in the United States, it's the day after Thanksgiving, and is known as Black Friday, a day that retailers big and small offer up sales in order to get into the "black" (as opposed to being "in the red"). It's also a day to graze on the leftovers from Thanksgiving.

@frost.maya

I have a special treat for you today by introducing you to Maya Frost. Maya is an ex-pat from Portland, Oregon, USA who now lives in Mexico. You can see the influences of Mexico in her work, most especially in the vibrant colors she uses.

Maya uses unique and different materials in her embroidery. Yes, in the first picture, Frida Kahlo is stitched on a tortilla with hair of beans - how clever!! IN the other pictures, Maya uses pieces of brown paper, canvas, and pieces of clear plastic in which to stitch on. She uses paint and floss together to create vibrant and unique pieces of art.

Friday Instagram Finds No. 30 with Beth Colletti

Hello! I hope you're having an awesome day. This post published at 6:00 am my time, so I'm sure I'm still fast asleep. But I know our readers in other parts of the world are more than halfway over with their days. Take a moment to sit back and relax, and look at some beautiful stitching.

@bethcolletti

The first thing I'm struck by when I look at Beth's Instagram feed is the color - bright, beautiful, and bold color. I love it! The next thing I'm struck by is her blending of nature in her work. Beth's sunflower hoo is one of the most amazing pieces of embroidery I've ever seen! Now those are some embroidery goals to strive for!

Her use of mixed media with embroidery is beautiful, and combines fabric, paint and floss with lovely quotes and typography. The last picture shown here gives a lovely closeup look.

Beth's pictures are beautifully staged, and light, bright, and beautiful! I cannot emphasize enough how important this is in a fantastic Instagram feed.
