What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Wild horses couldn't keep me away...

I wouldn't miss being with my Celebration family for anything today!  We went to a whole 'nother level Friday night, and we're headed to higher heights this morning. I'm totally exhausted right now, not only from leading at Prayer and Pancakes Friday night from 11 PM - 1 AM and then going to IHOP til' 3:30 AM (got to sleep at 5 am) but then waking up at 10:00 AM yesterday to start working on my book proposal again.  We had dinner with some friends from church last night but aside from that I worked on the book proposal until about midnight.  Most people have no clue what goes into a book proposal. I finally got it ready for the final edit, finishing at 55 pages last night.  I sent it to my friends who are helping me edit, to fire away with their critiques.  What I said in my note to them was: SUBJECT :  FINAL EDIT!  START CRITIQUING THE HECK OUT OF THIS!! Here it is with the sample chapter.  THROW AWAY ANY PREVIOUS COPY YOU HAVE. It’s at ...

Regrets, I've had a few...

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."  Dr. Suess I have few regrets in life, but I'm about to disclose one of my biggest. I caved to what I would now consider bullying and sold my personal  values for continued opportunity and a small amount of money.  Before the days of blogging, I had an article published on one of my websites.  An editor of a magazine I was writing for called me about a particular piece, upset.  I had no idea this was coming - otherwise I never would have responded as I did.   She was alarmed at the frankness with which I wrote this particular piece, one that contained interviews with pastor's wives who had been abused,  and demanded that I delete it.   My writing was too forthright for her tastes and her exact words were, "if you are going to keep writing for us, we demand that you delete that, right now."   She was alarmed by my...

5 wacky but true facts

My brain feels fried as I have been going almost non-stop for the launch on Sunday.  We have done so much but still have so much left to do.    Last night I was at the church with Adam putting large portraits on boards for hanging in our foyer and I couldn't stop yawning.  He said, "I can't even imagine the exhaustion you guys are feeling right now..."   It's true we have been going 90 to nothing, but it's all going to be worth it this weekend. Since I'm  really tired and not up to write anything that requires significant brain power I thought I'd share five random facts about me today that might give pause to somebody there from Seattle to Singapore who is reading this.  I'm not going to qualify them, just put it out there and you can wonder... Five wacky but true facts about Deanna: 1)  I never finished kindergarten.   2)  As a kid I almost burned our house down by toasting marshmallows....

Steeler Nation!

Just had to share this other blast from the past...another tribute to "Six-burgh!"

SIX-BURGH FANS!

Who are these absolutely adorable mini-penguins? Any guesses?

Blast from the past

I don't have energy to blog this morning as I usually do. I am going for the ultrasound this morning, so thanks for your prayers, but I thought I would just post two "blast from the past" photos that my dear friend Janice Shehan just sent me this past week to uplift my spirits. Here they are...the kids back when we lived in Maryland...this is right after Savanna chopped her hair off and the stylist had to try to make something of it. Notice Dustin had just gone a little crazy with highlights and gotten himself a new 'do too! Jordan was just his same chillin' self. And... Here is Savanna in curlers before she had chopped all the hair off. This had to be a Saturday night because she always wore curlers on Sat night in prep for Sunday. Those were the days.

Blast from the past

From time to time I've decided to do these "blast from the past" posts here on the blog. They will just include things from the past I want to share. This is a photo from way back when my boys were just a little beyond the ankle-biter stage, in fact Jordan may have still been in it. Wait, um, he's 17 and may still be in it. (GRIN) Dustin wouldn't have the energy to bite ankles, but Jordan is still always trying to wrestle with me or anyone brave enough to take him on. Time sure does fly. I never thought I'd miss those days, but I do. Thing I miss most? Naps with them. No, not them alone, me laying down and taking one with them. There is no more precious memory other than rocking them, which I also miss. Larry and I had to do the show last night til 3 am. I knew I'd be zonked and may not have energy to post. In fact I am sleeping right now, I guarantee it. So I pre-sceduled this to post and will more than likely get up by noon since we probably went to Waff...
