What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

This is a Matter of Life and Death

I wish it looked like this outside right now where I live. But it doesn't. So at Celebration Church , we try to bring the look of fall inside the building. I love what our people have done to accomplish that. As I mentioned here on the blog yesterday, I got to spend the morning with our beautiful women at Celebration. We enjoyed a ladies brunch. I spoke on the Sweet Life of Surrender.    What does it profit us to reach a dream yet lose our integrity in the process?  Nothing.  Mark 8:34-37 33But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” 34Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save ...

This NEVER gets old

I love seeing our church go after God with all their hearts...   Just like they're gonna do today... Like they do every Sunday and Wednesday and times in between... I never lose the wonder of what God is doing... and my gratitude that he lets me be a part of it. Thank you Jesus, for the blessing of a church family -- and the privilege to lead them.

Hospitality Hints from the Hostess with the Mostest!

Forget calling, responsibility and all that stuff..............I'm convinced some people might stay on our leadership team simply because they want to come to our Christmas party!  ::giggles::  Every Christmas my husband and I host a party at our home to show our love and appreciation to our Celebration Church leaders.  Between 70-80 people usually come as our leaders are invited to bring their spouse and kids. Everyone loves this party from the youngest to oldest!  We do everything from eat (of course!) to play games, and sit around the fire, and sing carols around the piano, and dance, and talk, talk, and talk some more.   We start at 6:00 PM and usually the last person leaves by about 2:00 AM.  I did mention that our name is Celebration Church?  Emphasis on the CELEBRATION. Being a person that loves fresh culinary ideas, I'm always wanting to try something new but every time I dare mention changing the menu there is an outcry...

I can hardly wait!

I love it when a plan comes together! That's how it's been for me the past 24 hours...everything just comin' together!  it seems like everything I've touched has turned to gold.  It's not always like that, by the way.  Some days it seems like everything's going wrong and obstacles are in the way right and left.   On those occasions I just praise and pray my way through and keep going.  I'm still praising when it's all going right (like now) and that's much preferrable.  :)   I'm in the midst of working out administrative details for many things at Celebration.   We have so many special events coming in the next few months. One thing that I'm incredibly excited about is our next event for Celebration Women!  We're having a tea once again on mother's day weekend, although it's not just for Moms -- it's for ALL women and girls ages 6th grade and above.  We call it the "All God's Daughters" tea.  Last year we hel...

Courageous Parenting

Right now we're doing a new series in Fusion on Wednesday nights at Celebration called Courageous Parenting.  I'm teaching the first three weeks and my husband will team up with me on the final Wednesday night of this month.  I'm always passionate about the Word God gives me to bring, and perhaps no topic stirs a passion as talking about raising the next generation.   Many people today feel helpless and afraid when parenting their children. Some are afraid of what THEY HAVE BIRTHED!  Imagine!!!  This is an easy trap to fall into and we must resist fear. Some have been brainwashed into believing: Kids will do what kids want to do - regardless. There's nothing I can do to control or change my kid's behavior. Because my child has a free will, what I do really doesn't matter at the end of the day. My teen is getting ready to turn 18  -- it's time to back off. There are parents who have not given up on parenting in the sense of leaving or giving their...

Don't expose yourself

Protecting the anointing upon your life is a very important thing.  This is not just for pastors but for all believers.  The enemy goes after pastors and leaders in even greater measure.  Sometimes it's not so much an all out "attack" -- just a distraction .  Enough distractions piled up can become fatal to your spiritual walk.   Leaders have such an effect on other believers, that's why he really tries to affect us, so that it will create a domino effect on the body of Christ.  Some pastors don't really have to be knocked out of the race completely, just a simple distraction unchecked, will do.  I tell you, it's not good enough for me just to finish the race without falling into some immoral trap!  I don't want a distraction to mar my effectiveness either.  It's not just what some might consider "big things" that can render us ineffective...like the Bible says,  it's the small foxes that ruin the vineyard.  (Song of Solomon 2:15) ...

The real kind you can believe in...

Yesterday I spoke at life coaching about being women who bring change. Are you content to just accept whatever life throws your way without believing the God can do something about it?   We can make change in two ways: Prayer The way we choose to walk the path.  (Sometimes the path in life is chosen for us at least for a while, but we have a choice as to how we will walk it.) This week I talked with a few people who are stuck at whatever place they have been in for a while whether it be hurts from the past, sickness, joblessness, under-employment, etc.  We all go through times like this, but to believe that there is nothing you can do is a lie.  The truth is, there's no telling what will happen when you passionately seek the Lord about your challenge. Lately at Celebration we've had breakthroughs of all kinds - healings, people getting free operations (God works in different ways), new jobs, and much more.  All of this has come through intercessor...

I went ape for this!

I'm so blessed!  There are people in my life who do such nice things for me and for this I am ever grateful. Wednesday night after prayer meeting, Bonnie came up to me and said she and Todd had something for me and proceeded to hand me a jewelry box.  She said they knew how much I love monkeys so they had special ordered this for me as a gift.   I was wearing one of my animal print outfits and had to take my jewelry off right then and there and put this monkey necklace on and wear it for Fusion!  How adorable!  They also said they ordered a second one for me that is carved out of jade, but it hasn't come in yet.  They are an amazingly thoughtful couple who show me such love and care. Sometimes just for fun I pretend Maxie is a monkey since he sure does act like one sometimes the way he tears up things in the house.  I know, I'm crazy.

Pastors are not omnipresent...

But it sure would be nice if we were at times like this. Yesterday Larry and I went out of town to do the wedding of Nick and Normandy, a very special couple from Celebration .   Last evening was the rehearsal and dinner, (at the Palm Tree Grille -- which was lovely!) and today is the wedding. Late last evening we got a call that Donna, one of our church members at Celebration, was hit by a car.   She was walking across a busy street and was hit at full impact and has sustained very serious injuries.  Doctors had not given a good report AT ALL and it was touch and go.  We activated the prayer chain and facebook messages last night and we received reports through the night.  As of 4 am this morning, we have found out that she has received blood transfusions for the loss of blood she sustained, has a "nick" on her kidney and liver, multiple severe bruises and lacerations.  And...SHE'S ALIVE AND ON THE MEND AND IN ICU!!!...
