If you must know, it actually began about 4 ½ years ago
with, believe it or not, WebTV. I was burnt out with my job and
wanted to use the Internet to look for a new one. Shortly thereafter
Jimmy, a friend of mine, got me into these things called E-Feds.
Basically they are Internet wrestling leagues. It was actually kinda
fun. You got to create your own character and role-play with the
others for matches, etc. I won't bore you with all the details,
but I started noticing that some of the players posts would have
different colors and sizes of text, scrolling effects, etc. I had
to know how it was done. One thing led to another and Jimmy had
an "online magazine" for the league, so I started helping
him and created a "backstage" section.
It didn't take long to figure out WebTV wasn't going to cut it
for this purpose (no hard drive, no programs, etc.). Within a year
I bought a computer and started playing around with different applications.
The more I played, the more I liked it and the more I wanted to
learn. What started as a hobby, became a passion. So now this is
what I do and I haven't been happier. Richer... but not happier

Why?: "Paragon" - First part

"Paragon" for any of this simply look up the definition.

Angela C. Buraglia, Founder/Site Architect
I have spent the last six years as a makeup artist for independent
films. Wanting to start a family, I soon realized that I wanted
a career that would allow me to stay home with my child. I started
a small business called All Occasion Connection to sell invitations
for special events and weddings. Once pregnant and unable to carry
heavy albums around, I decided to take the business online. A new
passion was found; building websites. Long gone are the days of
doing makeup, now its long hours of designing for the web, and more
importantly, being home with my baby boy.
I am currently building a web development business thanks to the
support and encouragement of the Macromedia Dreamweaver Newsgroup
community. In an effort to give back to this community that has
supported me so deeply, I have compiled this FAQ and resource site
for Dreamweaver users and developers alike, featuring tutorials
from various members of the Dreamweaver Newsgroup. I just can't
thank everyone enough for all of their help and support of this
site. Thank You!

Why?: Irie is a Jamaican word that
describes a feeling that everything is cool, nice, wonderful, &
peaceful. I've been to Jamaica twice- once for our honeymoon and
again for our 2nd Anniversary. The colors remind me of our visits
there. Oh how I long to go back...

Kim Cavanaugh
I became fascinated with the Internet when I began using the Web
for classroom instruction back in 1996. That interest led me to
start looking at how those mysterious web pages were built, and
ultimately to Macromedia. I found that once I learned enough about
web design to be just slightly dangerous that I wanted to start
teaching is as well. I currently teach Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash,
and Freehand to middle school students (!) as well at teaching Dreamweaver
and Fireworks at my local community college.
I really never found a book that I liked when I was learning Dreamweaver
and Fireworks, and ultimately set out to write my own. After 4 and
a half months of hard work, and some serious lurking at the Dreamweaver
newsgroup, "Dreamweaver 4/Fireworks 4 Studio: A Beginner's
Guide" was published in September of 2001. My second book,
"Fireworks MX: A Beginner's Guide" is due in June of 2002.
I live in West Palm Beach Florida with my fabulous wife of 15 years,
Kayleen, and our gifted and talented daughter, Katy. We also share
the house with a goldfish named Ron, a cat named Miss Kitty, and
Tasha the dog.

Marcello Cerruti
I was born in Palermo (Italy) in 1961 and still live in this sunny
town. I have done several jobs before starting my web design profession.
At the end of the '80s I worked in Rome at the Italian Chemical
Industries Federation, monitoring the EEC environmental laws and
proposal of laws. At the beginning of '90s I went back to Palermo
to manage my family's olive oil bottling firm, but after a very
bad story with some avid relatives of mine I was obliged to sell
the minority quote of shares, finding myself unemployed at the age
of 32.
After a long term unemployment Period (in Sicily unemployment
is over 25%) I accepted a job in a small exporting society, but
I felt I was choking. So in the second half of 2000 I became self-employed
with web design activity, just having a superficial knowledge of
Word and Excel. In the first months of 2001 I switched from FrontPage
to Dreamweaver and it was a love at sight!

Kindler Chase
I am a native of Colorado; born in Boulder and moved to Vail when
I was five. I guess you could consider me a small town mountain
boy.
While growing up, I've always had an affinity for computers and
in the later half of the 1990's I took the plunge into Web Development.
Shortly thereafter I happened upon the Macromedia Community and
was welcomed with open arms. I never thought I would meet so many
great people across the country and world through my on-line collaboration
in this community.
If you'd like to know a little more about me, then feel free to
stop by my favorite site I've developed at: http://www.espcycling.com.

to mention it looks great! Hmmmm... Take a look at the above espcycling.com

Corey Eiges
After college (B.S. from Cornell, Master of Management from Northwestern)
I traded futures and eventually found my way into computer tech
support. I was Support Manager at a small software company until
I was the last active employee (the rats deserted a sinking ship...gurgle...gurgle).
I enjoyed creating websites so I went solo in this business from
that point.
And now the stuff for which you've all been waiting. I am known
in the Dreamweaver and UltraDev forums as "Frozen Carp."
Why? you ask. It's a long story. The short answer is that it's Murray's
fault. Here's the long answer.
One night, Al Sparber (http://ProjectSeven.com)
a Macromedia Evangelist, held a contest to name his newest Design
Pack®. So, being me, I spammed the crap out of him. Sent him
lots of names to consider. No response. Knowing his affinity for
gray websites, I submitted "Grayed Expectations." Still
no response. Hmmm
. I then submitted "Frozen Carp"
as the proposed name. I also said, "just checking to see if
you are even reading these." He finally replied that he was.
Shortly thereafter Al announced the winning name, "Carrington
Press" and the person who submitted it. Someone in the Dreamweaver
forum asked if there were any runners-up. Al replied that everyone
was a runner-up - except Corey Eiges. I expressed my disappointment,
that I had such high hopes for "Frozen Carp." When another
Evangelist, Murray Summers (http://great-web-sights.com),
saw that he was apoplectic. How could I even think to suggest such
a name?
A few weeks later, I found that I was no longer the only Corey
in the forum. Coreys, Corys, Corries, Koris, and Korries started
coming out of the woodwork. After I had had just about enough of
that, I announced that there appeared to be a Corey version control
problem. I solicited suggestions for a pseudonym that I could use
to post in the forum. Murray, barely able to contain his glee, suggested
"Frozen Carp" would be a suitable name. Yum
a taste
of my own medicine
A few days later I posted as Frozen Carp,
and have remained that way. So you see, it really is Murray's fault.
My Site: http://www.YouNeedaWebstore.com
Color Scheme: Playing Koi
Why?: In the DW forums I am known as
Frozen Carp, Koi is a type of carp, I like word games. Hence, "Playing
Koi." It matches my site.

Shane Fowlkes
I am a Team Macromedia Member and a Dreamweaver UltraDev enthusiast.
I started off several years ago working for a large well known,
retail corporation as a database application developer. A few years
ago, I began experimenting with web site development and was quickly
hooked. A natural evolution and transition for me was to start developing
dynamic web applications using database integration and Active Server
Pages. I was able to quickly migrate my database and Visual Basic
experience into the realm of web development.
For the first three years, I used MS FrontPage as my main web development
studio but as I got into ASP programming, I needed software that
was better suited for ASP programming (and FrontPage was not it).
For a while, I was hand coding all of my ASP. One day, I found the
courage to try something new so I bought Dreamweaver UltraDev 4
and the rest is history. It was only a few months before I was proficient
enough to use UltraDev as my main web development tool.
I currently work as a web developer and consultant for the Commonwealth
of Virginia and have worked on other federal government web projects.
Unfortunately, although I am very proud of my work, I cannot directly
reveal (a.k.a: "advertise") my company or the government
projects I work on due to confidentiality agreements and security
issues. I also moonlight as a freelance web developer and have developed
and maintain some smaller web sites such as Public-Sector.com,
CreativeHomeConceptsVA.com,
and HomesForSaleHere.com.

I live in Dublin, Ireland and have worked full-time as a policeman
since 1989. In 1998 I gave up chasing bad guys and transferred to
our I.T. Section combining my hobby and job. I started out in Technical
Support and drifted into System Administration. I got into web design
in a roundabout way. I figured that I could reduce my workload long-term
if I built an Intranet site and placed all our support documentation

Jay A. Grantham
I am an Engineer/Operator with the Houston Fire Department, a licensed
paramedic and a certified emergency medical and fire dispatcher.
I live in Houston Texas with my best friend Dana and our two small
children, Garrett and Katelyn.
In 1996, I decided that my church needed a web presence and I was
willing to learn how to make it happen. By the end of 2000 I had
enough people wanting me to create websites that I decided to make
the endeavor a side business to fighting fire and saving lives.
I started my business and found Dreamweaver concurrently in the
fall of 2000, my knowledge in both are growing at a steady pace.
I'm having a blast learning what Dreamweaver can do for me and what
I can do for the Dreamweaver community.

Brad Halstead, Snippets Exchange Admin
It's been so many years, it's hard to remember, but I was first
hooked by computers back in Grade 6 in Inuvik, NWT, back in 1975.
From there I have almost always had a computer of one kind or another
and pride myself on my troubleshooting skills for PC related hardware
and software faults, then doing the repair. I've worked in the computer
industry since 1989 starting out in sales and ending up being a
Senior Corporate Technician. Holding Service Contracts with the
likes of IBM, System House, PC Service Partners, Xerox and Olivetti
but to name a few has taught me the value maximizing your effectiveness
while minimizing your time spend on the project. Now, I am venturing

James Shook
I started my career making pictures on a screen about 30 years
ago. I began
with film animation, making a number of independent animated films,
doing
animated sequences for sponsored films and for television shows
like NOVA.
A few years later, after teaching a class in animation at the
School of the
Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, I would wander down the hall to
the computer
graphics studio. The director of the lab generously allowed me
to use the
equipment when other students weren't using it, and that's when
I first
started making computer graphics, using the first Macintoshes and
the Amiga.
I eventually started doing computer graphics for money, first
for a few
games (including "Zork Zero" for the late, lamented Infocom),
and later for
interactive multimedia.
I learned HTML out of self-defense. A few years go, when I started
getting
requests for creating graphics for web sites, I would just send
a complete
page design and hope for the best. Often the results weren't what
I
intended, so I decided to learn how HTML works so that I could
figure out
how to put a page together to ensure that my design would look
the way I
wanted.

Daniel Short, Lead Developer
I never planned to be a web designer, it just kinda happened. I
started out in the Army, where I was the only one not afraid to
play with the guts of a computer. That lead to a job as an IT Manager
for an Architectural firm, which led to me being bored when nothing
was broken, so I started playing with HTML.
My first page was created with Arachnophilia
(a hand coding freeware app that has greatly improved since I first
laid hands on it), which basically just checked your syntax. I eventually
migrated up to DW, and eventually UltraDev, which is what I now
use for all my development. I've been doing the web gig since the
end of 1999, so I honestly consider myself still new to the game.

turtle (Mike)
I started with computers back when a good knowledge of soldering
and a steady hand was a prerequisite. I still have my first 8080
S-100 CPU card that I wired myself and I take it out of its shoe
box on occasion along with my "monster" 2k ram card. I
donated Inky, Blinky, & Nod (my first S-100 front panel) to
a local computer museum many years ago but for some reason I could
not part with my first floppy drive, an enormous Persci 277, single
sided, single density, dual 8" drive. I remember thinking to
myself "man I am never going to fill up this whopping 77k of
storage space". I wrote my first program in COBOL in 1970,
I still have the paper tape with the program on it somewhere around
here.
I like to think that I have come a long way since those early days
but I find that the more I learn, the more that there is to know.
I hope that you find these "turtle" tutorials useful.
