Janice's Bed Runner Quilts

My customer Janice received a whole pile of beautiful tiny pieced blocks from the family of a quilter that had passed.  She decided to make smaller quilts with the blocks and gift them back to the family and to a charity.

The first project I quilted for her is this fabulous Red, White and Blue quilt with the 8 point stars.

This "before" picture shows how pretty the top is even before it received it's stitching "bling".

The stars are only 4" square and the piecing is impeccable.  Whoever stitched these was a master.

Being that this one is Red, White and Blue the Shooting Stars pantograph was the right choice.

I'm sure you'll agree that it turned out very pretty.

Janice brought me bright Blue minky for the backing.  She was worried about how well it would work as she had heard stories from other quilters but this quilted up beautifully.

She chose Glide Cool Gray 3 (my go to thread for tops where White thread isn't right) for the top and So Fine Misty Blue for the backing.

We were both thrilled with the results.

The 2nd quilt was this Blue and Green Bear Paw design. Again, the center Bear Paw blocks were only 4" square.  So tiny and so perfect.

Here's the "Before" photo.

Breath of the Gods was her pantograph choice for this one and I love the way it brought gentle movement to the entire quilt.

The stitch design was subtle enough to not take away from the awesomeness that was the pieced blocks. I just can't imagine piecing blocks that tiny.

The same Blue minky backing was used for this quilt also.  I love how the stitching shows so well.

These were such a pleasure to quilt for Janice.  She told me that she has a lot more of these tiny blocks so there will be more pretty quilts from Janice to share with you in the future.

Donna's Black & Gray Bow Tie Quilt

My customer Donna brought me this Black and Gray Bow Tie quilt to help her finish.

Here is what it looked like "before", after it was loaded on the frame.

She added a pop of color in one of the blocks.

The pantograph she chose, Bubbles, worked nicely to soften the angular lines of the piecing.

Thread used was Glide Black on the front and Sterling in the bobbin.

The backing is a soft pale gray print with snowflakes on it.

Thank you Donna for having me quilt this for you.  I look forward to seeing your next project.

Kate's Interrupted Log Cabin Quilt

My client Kate sent me another great top to quilt for her. It's a fun design called Interrupted Log Cabin which can be found in the book Quilt with Tula and Angela.

It's certainly an interesting modern design that would look great in practically any color palette.

Kate chose the Modernish pantograph which suited the linear style blocks well. Quilters Dream 80/20 batting in Natural along with Glide Mercury thread for the top and So Fine Brown Sugar rounds out the other materials used to finish this one.

Kate always takes advantage of my trimming service and this time Maverick felt the need to inspect my work and help lay it out on the floor.

Here's the glamor shot! I really love the pops of Blue and Teal she added to the piecing.

The wind decided to be a little challenging that day.

It's a good sized quilt, measuring 80" x 80".  It was a Christmas gift for her daughter.

The backing is a fun New York  city scape print she purchased at City Quilter.  They closed the brick and mortar store a few years back but they still have an online store.

The sun shining through from the white strips on the front look like streets themselves.

Here you can see the details of the fabric.  If you have anyone with ties to New York City, this online store is the only place where you'll find fabrics like this.

This was another fun project to quilt for Kate.

I know another quilt will be on it's way to me to stitch soon.  I can't wait to see what it will be.

Linda's Friendship Star Quilt

My client Linda made a new quilt for her grandson's birthday.  He picked all the fabrics.

Evidently he loves Orange and Purple.  I don't know if he also chose the pattern she used to piece the top but it's a variety of Friendship Stars in an Irish Chain setting.

Linda had a tough time choosing the stitching design.  I steered her to the Caldor pantograph and though she wasn't sure, she trusted my judgement.  Being that this was for her grandson, we wanted a design that looked more masculine and modern.

I think the Calder pantograph gave this quilt just the right feel, perfect for a young man.

The outside photos shows the actual colors so much better than the inside shots. Due to her arthritis, Linda struggles now to sew binding so she asked me to trim and bind this quilt for her.  I used the leftover strips she brought to create the scrappy binding.

There's lots of lovely texture that helped make this quilt shine.

The backing fabric is a fun print that looks like chicken tracks on the ground.

Linda brought her grandson and his mom when she picked it up.  He was beyond thrilled.

I was happy that I could help Linda finish this gift for her grandson.  I know he will love snuggling with this special quilt made by his grandmother's loving hands.

Sandy's Mountain Skiers Quilt

Along with her Batik Mountains quilt, my client Sandy also brought this wonderful Mountain Skiers top for me to quilt for her.

It started out as this fabulously pieced top.

Sandy had a unique request for the quilting.  She wanted vertical freehand wavy lines of varying widths similar to the quilting I had done on the sailboat wall hanging I stitched earlier this year. Her intent for the quilting was to have it mimic the lines in the snow created as skiers made their way down the mountain.

I loaded the top sideways on the frame to make stitching the wavy lines easier.  It worked well.

The thread used was Glide Linen on the top and in the bobbin. Sandy was thrilled with the result.

Quilting is always fun when my clients bring me such interesting projects to help them finish.

Sandy's Batik Mountains Quilt

I truly enjoy the variety of tops that my clients bring me to quilt for them.  It certainly keeps the job interesting.  This is the batik mountains quilt that I helped my client Sandy complete.

This is how it looked before being quilted. The large variety of batik colors and prints she used makes this quilt visually dynamic.

I believe she told me these blocks were paper pieced.

Sandy was sure of the look she was going for and quickly chose the Modernish pantograph for this quilt, along with Glide Sterling thread for both the top and in the bobbin.

The stitching design definitely kept with the modern vibe of this quilt and kind of reminds me of waves of wind as they pass along the mountains' peaks.

Sunshine helped me out with the photo shoot outside where the colors showed much more vibrantly.

The backing was a solid gray which showed off the stitching.

We both love how this turned out.

Stay tuned to see the other quilt Sandy brought me to stitch for her.
