Inside North Kivu: photo gallery
September 25th, 2009
Since late January 2009, when the Congolese army launched an offensive against the FDLR (Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda), the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo has moved towards the north and west of North Kivu province. As usual, civilians are the first victims of the conflict. Violence in Kayna and Lubero regions in North Kivu province has forced people to flee their homes.
MSF is running a mobile clinic to provide medical care for these displaced people. Further south, MSF is working in Nyanzale and Kabizo where displaced people have set up shelter. At Rutshuru hospital, which has 300 beds, MSF takes care of medical and surgical emergencies. These photos and testimonies are from North Kivu, a province in great difficulty.
