Tools for Dad

Hi! I wanted to share with you a couple of Father's Day cards I made recently, using a cute little toolbox stamp from Lizzie Anne Designs Monthly Mix May 2010 'Dream Big' (retired set AND company).

On this first card, I imagined a work bench, with a rustic feel. The ruler paper is really perfect for this! Can't recall which paper pad I used for it. (Sieve-brain! LOL)

The circular 'dad' stamp comes in the same set, and I stamped it in Soft Sky, punched it out with a circle punch, then ran my 18kt Gold Leaf Krylon marker along the perimeter.  It was tough to catch that shine, and I'm not quite sure if you can see it in the pic below.  The little nut, nail and washer - created using Our Daily Bread's Workshop Tools die set - were die-cut out of shiny silver mirror cardstock.

The next card using the same tool kit, and another sentiment from that same Lizzie Anne Designs set. This time, I used a lined-paper patterned paper, as well as a grid design. You know how much math is involved in woodworking! I pictured Dad jotting his mathematical notes on these pages -- that was my inspiration for the card.

Though it's tough to see in the photos, I used Glossy Accents on the handles of the screwdrivers (the red and yellow handles).

Thanks SO much for joining me today!  Have a blessed day!

Father's Day is coming up!

Father's Day is coming soon, on June 19th this year in the U.S.
I just delivered a batch of cards for dads to Arts Plus Gallery this afternoon, including the two you see here.

For dads who love to make yummy breakfasts, a cute card using Lawn Fawn's Love 'n Breakfast. How sweet is that frying pan??

This next card is much more distressed in style, and aimed at guys who enjoy fishing and / or boating.

The anchor is a relatively new purchase, from Amazon. There is no name on the wood block. I love the engraving style of the illustration. The fish image is one of my oldest stamps, from a company called Bizarro. The harlequin pattern in the background is from Inkadinkado, and the sentiment is from Inspired By Stamping. A bit of heavy-duty garden twine and a snippet of cream twill give texture to this card.

I've got at least one more card for Father's Day to share with you soon.  Until then, have a beautiful day!

Mojo Monday Rooster

Hello!  It's New Year's Eve, and I was able to snag a little time to make something for the current Mojo Monday sketch challenge.  You don't know how happy it makes me to be able to play in a challenge again!

Here is the sketch, which is 'tall and skinny'.  I admit to forgetting about that part...mine is a regular A2 size.  Whoops!

The papers are retired of course, as most of mine are.  And the 'thank you' stamp, which was gold embossed, is from a {retired} stamp set by Lizzie Anne Designs.  Some lovely cocoa velvet ribbon joins up with white lace, and a few pearls.

Friends, I wish you a fantastic 2015, filled to the brim with many rich blessings.  Remember that blessings surround us each and every day...even the difficult days...if only you take the time to see them.

Thank you so much for your visit!  Happy new year!

Stamps: Rustic Rooster - SU; 'thank you' - Monthly Mix May 2010 'Dream Big' - Lizzie Anne Designs Paper: Vintage Cream - PTI; Soft Suede, Close to Cocoa, patterns - SU Fibers: cocoa velvet ribbon - May Arts; white lace Accessories & Tools: gold embossing powder; pearls; circle punch, circle die

A card for Dad

Hello everyone!  I could swear that I posted this card before, but cannot find it on my blog or Pinterest board.  Geez, that's what happens when:  a) you are getting older and memory becomes fuzzy, and b) you've written waaaay too many posts on your blog (um, 895.  Ahem.).

The story with this card:  I happened to use up some scraps that were lying together, and a Father's Day card was born in early January 2014.  I used a sentiment stamp from Lizzie Anne Designs 'Dream Big' Monthly Mix May 2010.  I received the set back when I designed for the Play Date Cafe.

I glued a strip of burlap onto a scrap of caramel cardstock first, and was then able to prop it up with foam dimensional stickers.  Before adhering, though, I tied on some garden jute twine.

I'm back tomorrow with a feminine card, as part of a special blog hop.  Hope you'll join me then!

Thanks for dropping in.  =D

Stamps: Lizzie Anne Designs 'Dream Big' Monthly Mix May 2010 Paper: Creamy Caramel, patterns - SU; white - PTI Ink: Night of Navy - SU Fibers: burlap; twine Accessories & Tools: circle punch - SU

Relax & Unwind, Dad

Okay, one more card this week...and it's a Father's Day card, since this Sunday is the holiday.

I made this for one of my fathers-in-law, who lives near a beach.  When I found this fun palm-tree paper from Webster's Pages I knew it was perfect for him. Not sure which 6 x 6 paper pack it came from; they are kind of mixed up at the moment...but rest assured, it's probably discontinued.  Most of my goodies are.  Ha!

I stamped a 'relax & unwind' sentiment from Inspired By Stamping, and a 'dad' one from Lizzie Anne Designs, added some twine and presto!  It was finished.

I'm painting my front door tomorrow in a color called Universal Black by Benjamin Moore.  Who knew there could be so many shades of black paint?  It's the blackest one I could find in that brand, and can't wait to see how the door looks!

Stamps: relax & unwind - Inspiring Sentiments - Inspired By Stamping; dad - Monthly Mix May 2010 'Dream Big' - Lizzie Anne Designs Paper: Pear Pizzazz - SU; palm tree pattern - Webster's Pages
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black - Tsukineko; green chalk ink - American Crafts Fibers: twine - Creative Impressions Accessories & Tools: corner rounder punch - Fiskars; circle punch - SU

Seize The Sketch #20 - a card for dad

Well, hello there!  I thought for sure I'd kick off my new Seize The Sketch design team assignments with the May 27th sketch, but here I am with a card for the current one!  Glad I found time to play.

Here's the sketch:

I used a strip of an antique (vintage?) book page behind the espresso panel, and a couple of retired Stampin' Up! patterned papers.  'dad' is from Lizzie Anne Designs Monthly Mix May 2010 'Dream Big' collection.

I intended to make two identical cards, but don't you know...a mistake happened.  Grrrr.  I trimmed one leafy patterned strip too small, which meant I needed to cover up the gap with skinny cardstock strips.  I chose blue to pull out one of the stripes from the patterned paper, but am not sure I like the color here.

Inside both cards, I stamped a Monkey Paw Fern from Rubber Stampede in deep green ink.  The same image graces the envelopes, too (not pictured).

There's still time to play!  Link up your card HERE before May 25th to enter.

Thanks so much for your visit today.  I really appreciate it!

Play Date Cafe 74 - Welcome LIttle One

This week's color inspiration comes from our own Ruby 2 Shoes, and our sponsor this week is Lizzie Anne Designs.

They have the sweetest stamps!  Our design team was blessed with some of their adorable stamps and here is my sample for this challenge:

As I put this card together, I was thinking about the lullaby, "Winken, Blinken and Nod."  There's something magical to me about this combination of colors and patterned papers and Lizzie Anne images.

The bird/moon image was stamped on patterned paper from K & Company's Wild Raspberry Die Cut Mat Pack.  The same blue paper is in the background.  I sponged some Baja Breeze on the moon for depth, and colored the birds with Stampin' Up! markers.

The group of stars and the one dangling from the moon were touched with Smooch Ink in gold and silver.

The purple and gold paper is from DCWV Once Upon A Time mat stack.  I propped up my "picture" on an "easel", which was made from Stampin' Up!'s Tulipe Bigz Die.

Check out what the rest of the design team has in store for you:

I used a Lizzie Anne birdcage stamp from "The Monthly Mix - May 2010 Dream Big".
