Inspired by a Magazine Page

This is my second post of the day.  Please scroll down
one post for The Play Date Cafe challenge.

In the March 2012 issue of Real Simple magazine, page 166, you see this page:

Though this style is not "me", I immediately thought of stamping because of the patterns I saw.  The pillows feature yellow gingham, and the tan pillows have a pattern (kind of Moroccan) just like my Skipping Stones Designs stamp.  The floral could be represented with paper.

I'm playing in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge - here's the sketch:

The Gingham stamp is by Market Street Stamps, the Moroccan pattern by Skipping Stones, and the lush floral paper is Girls' Paperie.  The sentiment is Verve.

I used Liquid Pearls in yellow and white to surround the sentiment, and a bit of light yellow shading too.  Behind the circle die cut is a Parisian Motif die cut.

This card is headed north to one of my dearest friends, a stamping buddy.  She is very special to me.  We met here in Blogland and have grown close.  I still marvel at the generous, warm-hearted community of crafters I have met.  I count myself blessed to know you all.  Big hugs!

Viva La Verve Sketch #2 - Runway Time

This is my second post of the day.  Please scroll down one
post for my Blockheads Peacock card.

I'm finally jumping in to play at Runway Inspired.  My friend Tammy plays there frequently. Here is the inspiration picture:
The model is wearing flowers, in shades of red, bright blue, black and hot pink.  I also see a clock in the background, so these are the things I focused on.

Also, I am using the Viva La Verve March Sketch #2:

I now realize I took a little bit of liberty with that skinny horizontal layer.  I forgot to check back, and thought it extended to the left more.  Whoops.

On the red panel, I stamped some flowers from the Paper Girl stamp set (Girls' Paperie).  The clock is also from that set.  This is my first time incorporating canvas on a card.  It's kind of neat!  I bought a set of 3 of these sewn circles from the craft store.

My mother is coming to visit us for a week, beginning this weekend.  She arrives on my birthday (what a great gift!).  We haven't seen each other for almost two years.  This week, I am housecleaning and tying up loose ends of all sorts to get ready for her visit.  Please forgive me if I don't make it around to your blogs to see your new creations until after my mom leaves.

I had trouble picking winners for this past week's Play Date Cafe challenge.  So many entries, so many beauties!  See you tomorrow with a new color challenge.  If you like bright colors, you're in for a treat.  ;-)

Play Date Cafe 119 - Beautiful You

It's Color Splash week at The Play Date Cafe!  Yay!  These are always my favorite.  This week's splash is a Bright Pink.  Remember to use just a splash - just a tiny bit of this pink. ;)

I can't wait to show you what I made.  I love it!
I knew I wanted to use this dress form from The Girls' Paperie Paper Girl set, and I had already stamped the image.  It was lying on the table, and I had the lace out for another project.  I threw a small piece (headed for the trash) near the dress form, and voila! - an idea was born.

The Bella Toile background stamp from Stampin' Up! (sadly, retired) seemed a perfect fit for this ultra-girly card.  The sentiment and flourish are from Verve's Celebrating You set.

Our sponsor this week is the ever-popular, much-loved The Twinery!

Go check out what my teammates created for you this week.  There's more than just cards to see!  And while you're there, check out the prize up for grabs too.  ;)

Mojo Monday 221 - 'Amour'

Are you enjoying this holiday week, everyone?  I sure am.  I've been relaxing a lot, with a little entertaining mixed in.  While Christmas is my favorite time of year, it absolutely kicks my butt.  I am the total 'Santa' package in my house:  shopping, wrapping, cards, baking, decorating (I leave the outside to my husband, though)...it leaves me drained of energy when it's all over.  I still love it, though!

This week I made 5 projects to submit to the Paper Crafts Submission Call, all in one day.  You should give it a try!

And yesterday I found time to play in the Mojo Monday challenge.  Here's the sketch:

I used two stamp sets:  SU's Artistic Etchings (the Eiffel Tower and 'Amour') and Girls' Paperie Paper Girl (clock, crown, bird) and the My Mind's Eye Lost & Found Union Square paper pad (BIG bargain at the craft store before Christmas) to create this 4.25" square card.

I experimented with these paper Prima Wildflowers:

I wanted to create black flowers for my card.  First, I used a Basic Black ink refill (16 drops) in a small amount of water, and let them steep.  They looked too gray to me (top flower in photo).

Then on another white flower, I sponged on Basic Black ink, and got a richer tone (bottom flower).  I combined the two with a button for my flower cluster:

I'd like to say a special hello to my new email subscribers and followers - thank you SO much for finding me. :o)  I hope you enjoy what you see, and I'm glad you are here!
