This is the refined stuff done by accomplished musicians (those damn bass guitar lines could be from DiGiorgio) who love composing songs more than destroying the listener's aural conduits. It is fast, dark and mean - it is death metal - but it is also memorable, virtuoso and flowing like pieces of art instead of lava and blood vomit full of nails. It is polished aggression. You might call it progressive death metal. As far as references go, Atheist comes to mind (mine at least, every tine I hear this level of mastery), as well as early Sentenced, more or less. Fans of Portal might want to hear the 1999 split - Invocation featured two Portal founding members. Another high density star in the never-failing deathiverse of triplazering madnesssssss!
