Giant megathrashosaurus alarm! Bow down to the Dark Angel! I still can't decide what is my favorite 1986 thrash metal album: Reign In Blood or Darkness Descends. Allow me another 30 years of manic headbanging to ponder. We Have Arrived had already been a deadly bomb that had rendered 1984 an even most crucial year after Haunting The ChapelApocalyptic Raids, In The Sign Of Evil, Sentence Of Death, Ride The Lightning, amen. But it was only a warm-up preamble to its incredible successor. More complexity made the last two albums less blatantly voracious, yet these are still dark giants in their own realms. Darkness Descends remains of course the epitome of darkangelry and probably of the whole thrash metal zeriverse, Absolute triplathrash attack! WE WILL GIVE YOU MERCILESS ZER!!!

Dark Angel

into the inferno / hell's on its knees (demos), 1983
we have arrived, 1984
darkness descends (+ 2 live bonus tracks), 1986
leave scars, 1989
live scars, 1990
time does not heal, 1991 (FIXED)
The only problem of Dark Angel was Slayer : had it not been for "reign in blood", "darkness descends" would have been the ultimate 1986 thrash metal album and THE reference in super fast-fierce-nuclear speed metal from the depths of evil!!!! ZerFuckShitAss this record is awesomely superior to almost anything else!! I am still waiting for something as genuinely intense from one of the new-retro-thrash bands of today (yeah I attended a Municipal Waste gig the other day... and Dave Witte is cool but Dark Angel had Gene Hoglan!!! tell me about monster drumming).
For long and multiple years I had not been a real fan of their later releases "time does not heal" and "leave scars", but actually these records are also excellent - more complexity, more melodies, more Nasty Savage and a different singer (my main obstacle), I totally enjoy these nowadays. But man, "darkness descends"... I'd trade it any day for the whole Destruction or Kreator discographies!!!! "We have arrived" is also an overwhelming debut of "Show no mercy" level. WE WANT MORE DARK ANGEL!!!! REGROUP!!!! MORE MORE MORE LEGENDARY SUPERIOR MERCILESS UNCOMPROMISING SPEEDFREAK THRASHING OVERKILL OF ZERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !R! !R!RR! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !R!
