this just might be my favorite wallpaper

I've been on a wallpaper kick lately and I have to say there is nothing quite like a freshly wallpapered room.I can't stop thinking about this dining room that we wallpapered in Schumacher's Chenonceau wallpaper in charcoal.
Is this bananas or what?

geometric wallpaper

I'm slowly emerging from my baby cocoon and trying to get back to real life.
This week's goal is to get back to blogging. Wish me luck.
I thought I'd start off with this lovely powder room I spotted on Houzz last week.
Normally I'm really careful about how I mix geometric patterns but I loved
how the combo of this mirror and bold geometric wallpaper breaks all my normal rules.

Isn't it scrumptious?

a few things

Those people over at Kate Spade have done it again with their genius marketing.
I want one of everything. And that wallpaper? Don't even get me started on my obsession!

wonderful wallpaper

There is nothing I love more than a happy room with happy wallpaper.

I've been working on a playroom recently and the wallpaper went in a few weeks ago.

Isn't it divine? Wait until you see the rest!

more vintage wallpaper

And if you're looking for a roll or two of vintage wallpaper, don't forget ebay

Lots of great deals to be found.

moments from NY: Second Hand Rose

If you like wallpaper, then you must plan to make a pilgrimage to Secondhand Rose. This wonderful little gem of a store has been stuck on my to do list for years, and I wouldn't have made it there with out my friend Jill who recruited me to go a long.
We just missed a certain hand bag designer whose initials are KS (if you don't know who I am talking about you shouldn't be reading this blog). She was looking for wallpaper for her house in the Hamptons(insert sigh here). This store also happens to be a favorite of set designers from around the world, including our favorite Mad Men.
When I entered and saw this:
I think I nearly gasped out loud.Had I died and gone to wallpaper heaven? I think so.

Second Hand Rose is the place where pretty rolls of vintage wallpaper retire until someone stylish scoops them up and deems them cool again.

I literally spent an hour browsing and touching and imagining what I could do with some of the prints I fell in love with. Just a few are pictured below:
I'm not the only one who loves this store, the very day I went there was an article about Secondhand Rose in the NY Times, and Habitually Chic also posted about them recently as well.

If you're not headed to New York anytime soon, don't worry. Secondhand Rose has a website with most of their prints and they are happy to help with any questions you may have. Ask for Martin. He'll tell you everything you ever needed to know about wallpaper.

And then some.

Back in style

This is a picture of my Mother-in-Law's eat-in kitchen in the 70s. When I came across this picture I died because I would use this exact wallpaper, and thonet chairs in a room I design today! I never knew my Mother-in-Law was so hip and shared my love of kelly green.

My version of this room would look something like this:

I'd start with the lattice wallpaper in grass from Echo Home (I've been waiting to use this for a client FOREVER) on the walls. For a dining table, I'd opt for this version in a clean white.
Of course we have our thonet chairs. I'd search out a vintage set (hopefully 6) and paint them a fresh green like Sherwin Williams Overt Green.I'd dress the table with a runner made out of some simple grey ticking for some contrast to the green.

I'd top that with some classic French dinnerware in our fresh green and some simple napkins by DwellStudio from All Modern.

As a centerpiece we'll stick with something simple like a bunch of simple white daffodils
and place them in these modern canisters from Z gallerie.

Thanks for the inspiration Joan! If any of you have rooms from another era that you'd like to recreate, send me an email and I'll do my best.

Just fake it: Do it yourself wallpaper

Every time I go to my local design center I thumb through the gorgeous wallpapers and stare with envy. My current living situation is temporary meaning no paint, no wallpaper. SO what's a girl to do? Get creative.

There is one wall in particular that just needed a little something fun, and I decided green would do the trick. A few drops of glue, a roll of floral tape and voila, wallpaper in an hour for the cost of a latte.

Don't you love it when I get all creative on you?

I'll post a play by play in the next few days.

I think this wallpaper is kind of sensational, especially in a surprising spot.

Imagine opening a closet and seeing this staring back at you. I love the glamour.

going modern

I met with a new client over the weekend in her beautiful modern home.

When she showed me this image above as an inspiration for one of the spaces we're working on I knew we were a match made in heaven.

This wall of shelving is from a room Samantha Pynn did for her HGTV show Pure design. One of my favorites! If you want more info, you'll find it here

bookmark

I've had this souleiado wallpaper bookmarked for quite some time. I'm just waiting for the perfect spot to use it. I love that the motif is traditional, but the colors are bright. And the price is just right.
