Connect the dots

I'm kind of smitten with this little pillow today.

Every now and then I find something really amazing from Land's End.
I love them because their prices are so reasonable.

My favorite thing about the pillow is how the polka dots have a painted look
that makes them more interesting and more chic than plain old polka dots.
It reminds me of a few other dotted designer fabrics that I love, Circo from Lee Jofa

and Tika from Lisa Fine, one of my favorite textile designers.

I've been thinking you could recreate this look with some diluted fabric paint
and a pencil eraser for a small scale look, or a round sponge for a large scale dot.
I haven't had the chance to try it out yet, but it could be a fun DIY.

Any takers?

I love a little bit of polka dot in an unexpected place.
It can take a sophisticated room and keep it from feeling too stuffy.
You expect to see a little bit of polka dot in a child's room
(love this from Jessica Helgerson)

but look how awesome it is in this office

And how Jamie used this ikat dot in her bedroom featured in High Gloss.

But my all time favorite use of any ikat/dots has to bee these chairs from Lilly Bunn Weekes.
Jenny turned me on to her blog last year and it has been a favorite read.

Do you have any dots in your life?

Avebury Floral Vine

Hello, let me introduce you to my new favorite fabric. Her name is Avebury and she is just lovely.
Her colors are soft and sophisticated and we're quickly becoming best friends.
I hope you'll love her as much as I do!

In fact, she's even the inspiration for my master bedroom which I'm trying to get pulled together before the baby comes.
I'll share the plans with you on Monday.

The look for less: Java Java

I've been a devoted fan of quadrille fabrics for a while now. I love the lines they carry, and they have such a fresh feel to them.  For a long time, my favorite print has been java java, pictured on the chair above.
Well in case you aren't in the loop on fabric, Waverly has come out with a fabulous look a like for a fraction of the cost. It's called cross section and it is available online in a few colorways (green, grey,) and at Joann's stores in beige, hot pink, pale pink and brown.

I used it in green on a pair of parsons chairs at a clients house

and Jamie used this same fabric on a darling loveseat at her store Furbish

And Camila over at High Heeled foot in the door used it on an ottoman
So the question is, have you already found a great use for this fabric?
Or if not, where would you use it. I'm dying to know.

I've been drooling over these beautiful textiles all day.

And don't even get me started on that crib bedding

Just lovely.

Modern Thread

I have a few little miracle workers that do sewing for me. One of them is darling Tiffany who is the mastermind behind Modern Thread. She makes the most darling pillows in funky and modern prints.

I must say this girl has excellent taste in fabrics and her sewing is immaculate.
If you are in the mood for something pretty to spruce up your couch, or a cute baby gift, head over to her etsy shop Modern Thread

I promise it will become your new obsession!

my favorite fabric of the week

I've been eyeing this for quite some time.

I still haven't found a place for it, but my fingers are crossed.

cherry blossom fabric

I got quite a few inquiries about the fabric that was used on this chair

It is quite stunning. The good news is, that although this looks like a very
expensive and beautiful Clarence House fabric, Flowering Quince
( pictured below in a bedroom from Domino)
it is actually an inexpensive Braemore fabric that is now available through Calico Corners

It is a lovely scale for pillows or drapes. Or of course, a chair.

suzani in style

When I went to Las Vegas Market in February, there was a certain fabric that haunted me. I kept seeing it in showroom after showroom and I loved it more and more each time I saw it.

I was delighted to find it online today. Tribal Thread, it is not a very pretty name for such a wonderful fabric, but we'll forgive that.

Isn't it gorgeous?

Where would you use it?

star struck

Yesterday I was winding up my trip and doing some research in the D & D building. I was in the John Roselli showroom grabbing some fabric samples when I spotted a lovely woman who looked eerily familiar. Instantly I realized it was the fabric goddess Carolina Irving

If you are not familiar with textiles you are in for a treat. She is a master at creating elegant timeless prints that have just enough personality. You can check out her website here
She was grabbing samples too and I was DYING to know what she was working on.

I'll resume my normal blogging schedule in the next few days.

Have you missed me?

the blue chevron fabric that made my day

I had a really great day today, but what really got me excited was finding this chevron fabric from one of my favorite inexpensive fabric sources via 6th Street Design School

Lots of projects with this coming right up!

And look at all the pretty colors in comes in!

add it to the list

I thought I knew about every inexpensive trellis fabric on the face of the Earth, but apparently
I missed one. Now how did that happen. I LOVE this print and the price is right.

find the fabric

I got a lot of emails asking about the fabrics used in this post

I wish I had good news about the green fabric on the chair but I don't. I actually bought it at a fabric outlet (Home Fabrics for those of you lucky enough to live near one) a few months ago and haven't seen it since.  I just have no way to source it. I'm pretty knowledgeable about fabric lines out there and I have no info on the manufacturer of this one. If any of you know more than I do, PLEASE let me know.

The good news is, that this fabric that was used on the pillow is readily available and even comes in  an alternate color. This fabric just sings happiness. I love it.

I'll try to debut the room these belong to in the next few weeks, and if I happen to find a bolt of that green fabric in the meantime, I will snatch it up!

Give me Liberty!

You may have heard that famed British Retailer, Liberty of London will be debuting a collection for Target this spring.

I'll just say without having it sound like I am too obsessed that I already have it marked on my calendar so I can get the pick of the litter.

textiles via
Pictured below is the interior of their famous Regent Street Store in London. This store is beauty personified. Not only do they carry amazing home goods and textiles, but they also carry some of the most beautiful fashion from lots of up and coming labels. Think of it as Anthropologie and Henri Bendel
all rolled into one.

The Liberty Collection for Target is rumored to be huge including a mix of fashion, home goods, and office supplies. Mark your calendars for March! I'll be at my local Target store with my nose pressed to the glass.

Look what I found!

I love sunburst mirrors, so why not sunburst fabric? A great price too. You like?

occupational hazard

Yesterday I spent some time at the local fabric showroom and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It turned out the Schumacher reps were there, complete with fabrics from their new collection set to debut in March, and I got a SNEAK PEEK!

You will die, I won't spoil anything but I will say there is a new colorway of chiang mai dragon in the works. Get excited.

the ultimate DIY

Cute Kirsten just made her own imperial trellis fabric. Talk about the ultimate DIY Project. I'm sure it was filled with blood, sweat, and lots of tears.

a pretty patten can be anywhere

I saw this patterned tablecloth at world market the other week and made a mental note of how much I liked it, thinking maybe I could use it in a future project. Then the other day I spotted this tutorial on style at home and I recognized the tablecloth turned into an entry bench. I'm glad someone put this to lovely pattern to use!

Also, if you're interested in taking on this project, just know it is amazingly easy. My pal Jenny over at Little Green Notebook has a great tutorial too. I just did one with a client and it turned out darling and so easy.

pretty pillows

I delivered pretty pillows made of this fabric to one of my clients last week.

I love the way they look against her new ticking sofas.

Pictures soon. I promise.

A little Ruthie

Everyone is buzzing about the launch of Ruthie Sommer's new website
I've been through it about 7 times already. I love it all but
my favorite is the image pictured above.

A few months back I cam across this post from Apartment Therapy
featuring before and after upholstery projects courtesy of Ruthie Sommer's.
They were all vintage pieces to begin with and she totally gave them new life.

I am so in love with the sofa below.
