¿ Cuando y como empezaste en el mundo del scrap?

El scrapbook lo conozco desde hace unos 7 años, anteriormente había hecho trabajos de encuadernación y cartonaje pero no conocía el sector del scrapbook hasta que un día buscando papel para mis trabajos de encuadernación (un diario en concreto) encontré una tienda de scrapbook, allí me planté y conocí el maravilloso mundo del scrapbook.  De manera profesional comencé en el 2011 cuando empecé a colaborar con Grapchi45 como diseñador y comencé a impartir talleres en Valencia y Barcelona. 

¿ Has trabajado a tiempo completo en el mundo del scrap? 

Nunca he trabajado a tiempo completo, he intentado maquillar el scrapbook de un trabajo extra y diversión, aunque ciertamente ahora creo que acapara más horas al día que cualquier otro trabajo.

¿ Que tipo de trabajo empezaste? Empezaste como creativo directamente? 

Comencé con mi blog, siendo un blog únicamente de inspiración y brand ambassador, pero al poco tiempo decidí que los talleres era una buena forma de transmitir mi estilo y visión por lo que comencé con talleres online y más tarde talleres presenciales

¿ Como describes tu trabajo a día de hoy? 

Mi trabajo es vintage, no solo por el estilo y material utilizado si no por el tipo de proyecto y las técnicas utilizadas. Intento siempre hacer trabajos resistentes, duraderos y robustos. Con ese aire victoriano y clásico que recuerde a trabajos antiguos pero que parezca que se ha detenido el tiempo y han perdurado en perfectas condiciones hasta hoy en día.

¿ Si pudieras volver a cualquier momento de tu carrera profesional en el mundo del scrap, que harías diferente?

Diferente creo que no haría nada, he ido poco a poco y sin tener grandes aspiraciones, tenia claro que quería ante todo disfrutar de lo que estaba haciendo y he cometido los errores comunes que cometería cualquiera y los aciertos también. Por lo que volvería a hacerlo todo igual porque el balance por ahora es muy muy positivo.

¿ Que harías diferente en cuanto a estilo, tipo de proyectos y demas?

Me gustaría perder el miedo, tanto el miedo al vacío, tengo un "Horror Vacui" muy acentuado y me gustaría también atreverme a realizar trabajos cada vez más vintage- "clean and simple" intentando no tener miedo al blanco y a colores más vivos.

De todo lo que has hecho (ser parte de Design Teams, enseñar workshops presecciales, o online, crear proyectos, blogger...) que es tu faceta favorita?

Antes lo que más me gustaba era crear proyectos y trabajar en DT pero la verdad que una vez comencé a hacer talleres presenciales solo se pensar 24h en proyectos e ideas para los talleres y como hacer cada vez talleres más atractivos con cosas nuevas y que la gente acabe un proyecto bonito y aprendiendo bien los conceptos. 

¿ Cual es el momento del que te sientes mas orgulloso de tu carrera en el mundo del scrap?

Sin duda impartir talleres en el ArtVenture en Anaheim (LA) con Prima marketing, pero por lo difícil del momento hay que destacar cuando fui DT de Graphic45 ya que era impensable que alguien desde España pudiese llamar la atención de una empresa americana. En la actualidad a pesar de wue soy embajador de Graphic45 y Prima Marketing Educator no pertenezco a ninugn equipo de diseño.

¿ Es difícil ser un profesional en el mundo del scrap? ¿ Puedes contar cuales son tus mayores desafíos y/o dificultades? 

Es difícil si te centras únicamente en una vía, para poder trabajar y vivir completamente del craft tienes que ir más allá de solo impartir talleres, hay que diversificar y buscar nuevas vías de escape para tu imaginación

¿ Que crees que es mas importante en esta industria: Talento creativo, suerte o trabajar duro? 

Esta pregunta esta contestada creo que por Picasso, Que la inspiración te coja trabajando. Hay que trabajar mucho pero esta claro que hay que tener talento, en la suerte directamente no creo. 

¿ Cual es tu tipo favorito de proyectos?  

Mis proyectos favoritos son siempre mini albumes y más aún si van acompañados de una caja para guardarlos.

Y ¿ cual es tu color para crear? Es distinto de tu color favorito en general? 

Normalmente suelo trabajar con una gama de colores marrones aunque me gusta poner toques de amarillo, rojo, azul,... pero siempre dentro de una gama de tonos oscuros y metálicos. Mi intención es crear obras que no sean artificiales, que sean  acabados naturales.

¿ A dónde vas para buscar inspiración?

A mi hay dos cosas que me inspiran muchísimo, uno son anticuarios sobretodo mercadillos de antigüedades al aire libre. Y por supuesto una librería antigua es siempre un buen lugar para inspirarse, a y siempre acompañado de música.

¿ Qué podemos esperar de ti en un futuro próximo? 

Ahora mismo tengo muchos proyectos entre manos, de los cuales obviamente no puedo adelantarte nada! pero una de las cosas que quiero retomar es la formación e inspiración no presencial.

Y finalmente, ¿ te acuerdas de cuando nos conocimos? 

La primera vez que nos vimos en persona fue en CreativaMadrid, ya había hablado anteriormente contigo via Facebook y había sido advertido de que eras una persona sencillamente encantadora. Emites profesionalidad, sencillez, exquisitez y buen gusto por todos los poros de tu piel. Media hora de conversación contigo y es muy enriquecedora.

Memory keeping - a few of my ways to keep memories safe - ish!

Here is my dilema which by the looks of it, it is the same with many paper crafters. I love creating with paper and I love memory keeping. But I don't have time or energy (mostly the latter one) to both at a good standard and keep up with everything.

I have talked before about this struggle, though it may sound insignificant - and it is really insignificant in the grand scheme of things - but it becomes a burden. And we as women like to feel guilty about not doing everything up to scratch.

I have accepted that scrapbooking is more about paper and creativity than it is memories and memory keeping. And there is no shame in that. I love to take photos, specially portraits and some of them don't necessarily bring extraordinary memories that I want to keep, but I feel bound to scrap them just because I happen to be inspired by the beauty of the people I photograph. And that, to me, is enough.

But I want to keep a record of what I do, the places I visit. I am very fortunate that between my job, family and friends I travel often. I get to visit places where beauty and moments need to be preserved for a later date. As I am a Facebook very active user, I use LikeBooks to keep a printed version of my timeline, an easy way to keep it all in one place. ( I have talked about LikeBook here and here.)

I also use this blog as a diary of trips. I dont post all the photos on Facebook, or I post different ones (more personal there, less so here).  Some of you may follow this blog because of my crafting, but some of you I know are family and friends that live far away and like to read and see photos of my travels. For me its another way of keep those memories fresh and share a bit of what I do. Then I also print this blog out using Blurb Blog Book feature. So all gets safeish!

Finally I use pocket scrapbooking to keep all the mementos form different trips safe. I also use it for some photos but mostly is to keep the memorabilia.

Die cutting projects using the Big Shot and Teresa Collins papers

Many times I complain that while I demonstrate I cant really create good samples. Well, last weekend while I was demonstrated for Tubo in Lisbon I actually did something that I was quite proud of for a change! Which is good as I wanted to leave samples behind for Patricia who is the organiser of the event.

Muchas veces me quejo de mi inhabilidad de crear proyectos que estén bien cuando estoy haciendo demostraciones. Bueno, pues la semana pasada cuando estuve demostrando lo nuevo de Sizzix para Tubo en Lisboa cree algunos proyectos de los que me quede contenta. Lo cual no esta mal ya que asi pude dejarlos en Lisboa con Patricia la organizadora del evento.

Of course as I was demonstrating the Big Shot and the latest releases from Sizzix, they all feature a bit or a lot of die cutting!

Por supuesto todas las creaciones tienen algo de Sizzix.

One of the new Sizzix lines that will be released later on is the Life Made Simple, perfect for project life addicts.

Una de las nuevas colecciones de Sizzix se llama Life made simple que se va a lanzar dentro de unos meses, que esta diseñada para Project Life.

I love the base shape which is a Sizzix Tim Holtz Movers and shapers die called Cameo.

Me encanta el troquel que he usado para la base de esta tarjeta. Se llama Cameo Sizzix Tim Holtz Movers and Shapers.

And finally this box and Bow. The bow is an Eileen Hull bigz die, which means you can cut it with fabric.

Y finalmente la cajita. El lazo es un troquel de Eileen Hull. Como es un Bigz significa que puede cortar tela.


Por cierto, este año quiero cumplir un sueño: dar talleres en castellano y en mi tierra! 

Así que estoy intentado organizar talleres en tiendas de manualidades por toda España. Talleres de scrap, mini albums, home decor ... usando troqueles por supuesto!

Project [ Facebook ] Life: the Likebook

I have done photo albums since I can remember. My mum started the tradition when she was a teenager and has kept all her and our family's photos on precious family albums. So when I came to this country and discovered scrapbooking as a craft I was in love. 

But, as a professional papercrafter, the personal scrapbooking has always taken a back seat. I do scrap my favourite photos and do mini albums of trips, but the day to day... well that doesn't get a chance to get into my albums. 

I always have envisioned scrapbooking as a way of having fun crafting preserving memories, but the memory keeping aspect has always been to me a by product, a great addition to the craft and design aspect of the craft, not the important essential aspect. Yet, with the appearance of Project Life, I started to feel guilty about my lack of memory albums.

One day I realised that my Facebook account is actually my day to day record. (I am very active there.) So I looked for ways to print my Facebook feeds and that is how I found Likebook. It is a fairly automatic process, with a little bit of choice - colour, cover... - and it is not cheap. But with a few clicks and a little bit of money, I have a great memory book of my day to day life since I joined Facebook!

So no more guilt. I can enjoy scrapbooking as I always liked it. Fun papercrafting.

Desde que tengo memoria, he hecho álbumes de fotos . Mi madre empezó la tradición de cuando ella era una adolescente y mantiene fotos en preciosos álbumes familiares. Cuando llegué a Inglaterra y descubrí el scrapbooking como craft me enamoré de el.

Pero, como papercrafter profesional, el scrapbooking personal siempre ha pasado a un segundo plano. Suelo escrapear mis fotos preferidas y hacer mini-álbumes de viajes, pero el día a día ... no tiene la oportunidad de entrar en mis páginas.

Siempre he pensado que el scrapbooking es un hobby maravilloso haciendo artesanía del papel  usando fotos y recuerdos, pero el aspecto de conservar memorias siempre ha sido para mí un subproducto, una gran adición a la actividad artesanal y el aspecto del diseño, pero no el aspecto esencial importancia. Sin embargo, con la aparición del Project Life, empecé a sentirme culpable por mi falta al no conservar mejor el dia a dia.

Un día me di cuenta de que mi cuenta de Facebook es en realidad mi registro de lo que hago el día a día. (Soy muy activa allí.) Así que me puse a buscar formas de imprimir mis feeds de Facebook y así es como me encontré Likebook  Se trata de un proceso automático, con un poco de elección - color, tapa ... - Y no es barato. Pero con unos pocos clics y un poco de dinero, tengo un libro que recoge mucho de mi día a día desde que me uní a Facebook!

Así que no hay más culpa. Puedo disfrutar de scrapbooking como siempre me ha gustado mucho. Diviertiendome con manualidades del papel.

Hexagons Layout

To celebrate that the Fresh Moments dies that I designed for Sizzix EU are arriving to the shops around, I thought I would a series of tutorials and projects featuring the collection in the last few weeks in three blogs that I post - Sizzix EU, Tubo and this very one.

As a companion piece I thought I would share this 8 x 8 layout made with the left over Hexagons I got left from the card. All papers and embellishments are from My Minds Eye Indie Chick collection.

4 x 4 Mini album

This little 4 x 4" mini album is without  a doubt the most popular one that I have ever done. I really don't know why, if it is because of the colour scheme - given by Making Memories Flower Patch Collection - or because of the hidden folds and flaps.

That can be opened flat.

This is the back of the album. At both ends there is a little pocket made out of the patterned die cut paper.

A layout, for a change

I dont think I posted this layout before, but if I have, then forgive me. I am still exhausted after teaching at Dawn Bibby's Residential. It was a lot of fun, but little sleep involved and I need my mornings to sleep!

The layout features Kioshi papers, which are a lovely double sided collection by Basic Grey.

Of printers and headaches

Last year I finally bought a multifunction printer that I was satisfied with, the printing results as well as scanning were very good for the price that I paid. And, of course, about a year and a week after I bought it, ie. the warranty is expired, the machine decided to stop. You know, I have been good to it. I have only used Canon new cartridges, no cheap alternatives not even refueled ones. After a few calls to the Canon service centre, the only solution that has been given to me So it is time now, once again to get myself another one. I have decided to go back once and for all to Epson after years of trying the other two major competitors, I truly think that I am meant for Epson. Now, I just need to choose which one.

In other news, I am so looking forward to Dawns Residential in a bit more than a week. If you ever been you will know that it is a fun occasion. Hopefully I will see many familiar faces as well as some new ones.

And the layout above? Do you recognize the photo? Yes, it is probably one of my most used photos in layouts and projects. Not only I adore the photo, but also I have got plenty of prints of it that are crying to be used. So, when I have a commission or a job that involves fotos those prints are used. The same can be applied to other photos like the one of Samara -nickname Layla- on the boat.

And, the papers? You guessed it right, My Mind's Eye. Honestly, I am not on commission. But there is a reason. This layout I made for a QVC kit. But I must admit that I was more than happy to use them, it is so exciting to make cards and layouts with products that you like not only their patterns but their quality and creative possibilities.

Concertina Pop Up Mini Album

Since you all seem to like very much the Concertina Pop Up card, I would like to share this mini album I did for the last Stitches

It is very similar to this other one I did a few years back using snowflakes. The interior pages are quite plain and simple as the main decorative details are the flowers, all cut with the Cricut using the Accents Essentials cartridge.

There is no journaling because this mini album was on display at Stitches, so i did not want to write something that everyone could read. But also, I did think of giving this a s present for the parents of this two kids so they could write their own thoughts.

For the patterned papers I used Kioshi, one of the latest Basic Grey collections, and for the main cardstock I use CoreDinations.
