Smile with one layer no:4

Hi Everyone - just a short post from me today. This is another one of my Art of Craft workshop one layer cards, made for a 5” x 5” card.
P1050810
This is a very simple recipe for making the card.
  • Lay low tack masking tape across the middle.
  • Blend two or three distress inks over the card. Remove masking tape.
  • Stamp sentiment, flower and butterfly.
P1050811
  • Water bleach flower petals. Wrinkle free distress and splatter paint.
  • Ink edges with walnut stain.
P1050812
Done.

Before I go I thought I would share some photos of Wisley Gardens taken last week, These textures and colours are amazing.

Thanks for stopping by.

Stay creative.

Grandpa Cabinet Card

I found a packet of these recently and they reminded me of Tim’s cabinet cards in shape and I could see the potential of making my own.
P1130740
I began by blending walnut stain DI over, splashing with water and creating those gorgeous splatters and stamping one of the stamps from  ultimate grunge set.
P1130741
I added texture with coloured up grunge paste through a harlequin mask.
P1130742
When embellished and a photo of my Grandpa John Albert Victor Axon (aka Bert) added it looked like this…..
P1130877P1130880
The key was die-cut using a designer paper scrap, inked and covered in rock candy distress crackle paint, a bulb charm dabbed with metallic distress paints, a wooden corner inked and I added a small stamped bee found in my box of bits.
P1130881
Here I used more metallic distress paints on the metal cogs, an embossed B and my favourite bit was adding small photos from one of the Tim Holtz paper pads to a piece of film strip, I think they are so cute.
P1130884
A piece of black die-cut with Tim’s vintage lace border die and the piece of paper added at the bottom from the French Industrial paper stash.
P1130885
I’m not sure what Grandpa’s jobs were through his life but I think he tried his hand at many things. When the children were small (my Mum and her brothers and sisters) they all lived in North London. Anyone else out there have an Axon in the family, it’s an unusual name.

Thanks for taking the time to visit and read my posts and for all the lovely comments I get, I so appreciate them all.

Take care.

Maddie's Skydive

Just a quickie from me today to show you some pictures taken when Maddie, my daughter, did her skydive which was only 10 days ago.

She is a youth worker in the evenings and in the budget cuts Hampshire council have dropped the funding for youth clubs across the county. Her manager with the support of the other youth workers, including Maddie, have set up a charitable trust and have got funding to continue the Youth Club and outreach work they do. They are very focussed on education as well as support and guidance for the young people of the Fleet area. Five of them raised over £2500 for Fleet Phoenix.

Getting kitted up - Maddie is furthest to the right.

Out of the plane and parachute open.

Getting nearer the ground - another of her group can be seen in the background.

Getting nearer still.

Touchdown.

Landed.

Her comments? "It's certainly a once-in-a-lifetime experience".

Don't think she'll be doing that again in a hurry then lol.

Well done Maddie, I am very proud of you.

Hope you all have a great weekend.
I am looking forward to going to see my grandaughter tomorrow.
I just hope she's making some progress again now. I will update you on Sunday.

Happy Friday.

WOYWW and Holiday photos

Well I am back to reality and a touch of normality especially with all the rain we are having today, so different to the extremely hot weather we had in California and Nevada, in fact it got to 114F or 45C at Pirates Cove near Needles on the Colorado River. That was the hottest I think I have ever been!!

So today I thought I would take my first venture into the WOYWW and show a peek of something I am currently working on, but not much of it mind, really only the embellishments I am going to use on it. The project is for something very exciting that I can reveal very soon. If you are already a WOYWWer then thanks for visiting me, if not go take a peek at all the wonderful workspaces and creations out there, hosted by Julia at Stamping Ground.

Well as I am writing this Blogger has decided it won't let me access any photos, so I shall finish the writing and come back to it later - what a bind. (OK I finally got these in by changing from Chrome to IE, don't know what is happening, but I am not the only one experiencing problems.)

The holiday photos I want to share with you are those of dear Terry and myself when Ken and I went and met up with her and Steve in Valencia.

We went for a lovely meal at BJs and as Lucy and Marjie might say I got corrupted with trying a Margarrita, actually the truth be knbown, it was my suggestion and I thoroughly enjoyed a lunchtime drink.

We then visited Michaels, because I said I had never been to one before.

Then Terry took us to Scrapbooking Made Simple, a super little scrapbook store not too far away.

The photos show us shopping and deciding on what to buy.

Needless to say I came away having spent a small fortune on bits and pieces and dear Terry bought me the Prismacolour pencils I wanted. She really is such a lovely lady and I feel so honoured to call her a friend. One day we will meet again, I hope she might come over here but that would be difficult with her dog and birds. So until my next trip to CA.

Have a great week everyone. Thanks for stopping by to see me today.

It's snowing down south

Just thought I would share these photos just taken of my back garden from my craft room window. It has been snowing for a few hours now. I expect the whole of the UK is covered in a blanket of this white stuff!!!

I don't know why the sky looks reddish, I can only assume it's the light from the street lights on the main road behind the houses in the background.

That's the end of my conservatory just showing.

I'm glad Ken filled up the bird feeders today.

This is the decking with the lights on - we call it the runway. (We are almost under the flight path for Farnborough airport).

Wherever you are, whatever your weather, stay healthy and warm.
