Spring Into Life Apple Blossom Frame

Spring Into Life Apple Blossom Frame

This is a second inspiration project for the Country View Crafts challenge of 'Spring into Life'. I have used the same set of Alison's stamps as I used for my previous project, showing how versatile her stamps can be.

I used Alison Bomber tissue paper from PaperArtsy, cut the blossom part and adhere it to green card and dry.

Paint the blossom using the the paints and again dry. Make a wash of snowflake and paint it around the blossom lightly and again dry.

Stamp large and small apple blossom stamps using archival ink onto watercolour paper and paint. Dry and slightly cut around the large blossom images so they separate from the leaves. Then spritz water on the back of them and carefully squeeze leaves and blossoms to give them some shape.

Add some textured card to the photo frame and blend some distress oxides over it, spritz and dry. Then brayer one coat of the snowflake paint over it.

Edge all the flowers with brown distress ink and adhere pieces to the frame.

I now have a winter and a summer frame for displaying in my conservatory at the appropriate times of year. I think I will be looking to make a Summer and Autumn one as well.

- Autumn Poppy Field

Alison Bomber stamps - Poppy and Grasses Editions

Welcome Fall CVC #2 September

1. Start working on the bottom half of the card first.
2. Make watery puddles of antique linen and vintage photo, dip card and dry several times.
3. Using iced spruce and hickory smoke repeat the same process as above on the top half of the card.
4. In the background dip in a little bundle sage and dry.
5. Dab vintage photo, aged mahogany and gathered twigs closely together on a craft mat and spritz with water. Tap stamp into the colours and stamp onto the card and dry. Repeat to create a collection of poppy seed heads.
6. Use masking paper and stamp the poppy heads enough times to cover all the stamped images. When they are covered stamp grasses using different brown and green oxide inks. Dry.
7. Remove masks and use black and white drawing pens to emphasize shapes, outlines and details of the poppies.

Hanging Autumn Leaves

Welcome Fall CVC #1 September

And here we are in the first month of Autumn already and

the challenge theme is about autumn colours in nature.

Starting with the focal elements here are some autumn leaves taking centre stage.

I found some discarded backgrounds I keep in a couple of files and added to them to be able to die-cut some leaves.

I used leaf fragments dies ......

... dabbled small areas with watery distress inks to get more depth to the colours, dried them.
When dry I used my permanent ink pem to add veins, you can just see that on two that I started with.

Next I blended brown distress ink round the edges and around the holes, ....
.... but the colours then seemed much more subdued. I decided to leave the green ones out at this point.
So I took out some reinkers and with small drops of water I dabbled colours back onto the leaves.
Finally I rubbed micro glaze over the inked leaves, left it to soak into the card for a few minutes, buffed it and then soaked the plain side with water, scrunched the leaves up and heat dried them. I had experimented with another piece of inked card first and the colours didn't move when the water was applied.
For the background I used distress inks with some Alison Bomber and Tim Holtz stamps.
Eh voila, the hanging leaves with the green ones back in again.

Alison Bomber workshop playtime

I went to Country View Crafts to see my friend Alison Bomber as she was doing a workshop there I didn't participate in the workshop but I have had fun recreating some of the  samples and techniques she did with the participants, with my own twists of course. (I can't provide process steps as these were Alison's steps. not mine)

This part of the workshop was about creating three backgrounds using her berries stencil, three paints - see listed below, and infusions.

Add a collage of snippets, text/titles and paperdolls.

Aged, Weathered, Distressed, TimeWorn. CVC May #1

 Weathered Shabby Panel and collage

Happy May Day

I have chosen the theme for the CVC FaceBook challenge and it's to create a project that looks aged, weathered, distressed or timeworn.

AGED - to have become old and showing some age.

WEATHERED - worn by long exposure to the atmosphere; weather beaten.

DISTRESSED - having simulated marks of age and wear.

TIMEWORN- damaged or made less interesting or attractive as a result of age or much use.

My panel is vintage, shabby, distressed, looking aged and timeworn. I think I covered the brief.

Seal surface with a layer of gesso. Dry.

Paint a layer of brown acrylic Fresco Finish paint. Dry.

Stamp and clear emboss.

Paint over with a lighter colour. Dry but leave it still a little tacky.

Wipe over with a wet wipe to remove the paint from the embossing and rub harder over the painted areas to reveal some of the brown showing through underneath.

Dip into watery puddles of brown distress inks and dry.

Sand around the edges and rub over with vintage photo distress ink ink.

This creates a shabby, weathered, distressed background.

Gather together items to create a collage.

I paint the moths with collage medium to take off the shine, I much prefer matte items.

I painted on a little green distress ink, mixed with collage medium, to the dress on the paper doll and a little tattered rose, also mixed with collage medium, to her skin, to add a little colour.

I also add extras as I'm putting the design together and here there are extra snippets and some TH film strip, plus a small piece of border coloured green.

Autumn Richness 3 - Berry Panels

This is my last project post for the September 24 challenge at Country View Crafts challenges on FaceBook. Two little panels that grew to four and now five. I've added one more to complete the series.

Here they are as a completed collection.

I made a little torn tab booklet to add them to with some collage paper elements.
