Cold Shoulder Maxi Dress and Stitch Fix #17 Review

Today I am finishing my review of my last Stitch Fix Box, Fix #17.  I've already reviewed four of the items, scroll to the bottom of this post to see those pieces.  This stunning maxi dress is the last item I have to review from that Fix.  It is by Calvin Klein and is called "Desmona Ruffle Detail Cold Shoulder Maxi Dress".

This dress is absolutely beautiful.  I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.  I loved how romantic it was with the white fabric, beautiful floral print, cold shoulder, and the ruffle overlay over the bust line.  I felt like a princess wearing this dress.  But, I had to send it back.  It was very expensive, $138.00, and I honestly had no idea where I'd ever where it.  It is very dressy to me, too dressy to wear to church.  I do have a wedding coming up at the end of summer, but I really don't like wearing white or black to weddings so I didn't think it would work for that either.  Plus, I already bought a dress for the wedding.

The back is very sexy because of the low dip and cold shoulder:  another reason I could never wear this dress to church. 🤣

I really liked the ruffle over lay over the bust.  I've always stayed clear of ruffles around my chest because I thought it would make my large bust look even bigger, but this seemed to do the opposite. I'm going to keep an eye in the stores for more tops with ruffle overlays and try some on!

For jewelry I chose dramatic pink tassel earrings (Charming Charlies).

On my wrist I wore a rose gold bracelet (Francesca's) and carried a pink clutch.

I chose these white wedges (old, JCPenney) for footwear.

I know you're all going comment what willpower I have to send this dress back, cause you always do!  It is gorgeous, but impractical.  And this time my husband and I were in complete agreement.  He knew I'd never get enough wear out of it to justify the price.  But I enjoyed trying it on and feeling like a princess if only for a few minutes!

I would have loved to have done a photo shoot wearing this dress in my beautiful garden, but I didn't dare for fear I would get it dirty and then not be able to send it back!  So we did the photo shoot in my guest room instead.

And now for a review of the entire Fix:  Stitch Fix Box #17!

In summary, this was my best Fix yet since I started receiving monthly Fixes.  I kept 3 out of 5 items. I actually LOVED everything, the maxi dress was returned simply because it was impractical and too expensive.  I also loved the green dress I returned, but the fit was just not right for my body type.  I do hope my stylist sends me another dress in that beautiful green color because it's definitely my color.

So what do you think?  Did I keep and send back the right items?  I'd love to hear from you!

A Romantic Savanna Maxi Dress and a Link Up!

I'm so excited for today's fashion post because I not only get to show you this gorgeous floral maxi dress I wore in Savannah and for Mother's Day, but I am also co-hosting with Cheryl from Northwest Mountain Living & Style!

This is the first maxi dress I have ever purchased.  I've tried maxi skirts before, but I never liked them on me.  I did not think they looked good because they covered up the thinnest part of my body (my legs) and they chopped me in half making me appear shorter and wider.  Maxi dresses do just the opposite, they elongate the figure because it's all one piece;   you actually look taller in them!  As for covering up my legs, this dress has a sheer bottom so you can still see my legs!  Win, win!

All these pictures were taken at the gorgeous home we rented in Savannah.  Be sure to check Wednesdays Travel Post for a tour of the interior.  I felt this dress fit the Savannah "mood" quite well, don't you think?

I purchased this dress for an absolute steal from JCPenney.  It was on a clearance rack in March!  I actually bought two maxi dresses that same day and I wore the other one in Savannah as well.  That one also shows my legs!  Who knew I could find maxi dresses that showed my legs.  Anyway, by the time I used my JCP coupons I think I paid $14.99 for one dress and around $7.00 for the other.  What a steal eh?

In this photo you can see my legs through the sheer fabric.  It's much more noticeable in real life.

I paired my maxi dress with black sandals, a black straw hat, and a straw bag (all old).  I wore this hat and carried this bag all week long, but no, I did not walk around Savannah in these shoes.  Yikes!  I wore flats or sneakers most of the week.  These are for photography purposes only.  I did wear these shoes with this dress on Mother's Day though.  A lot less walking that day!

For jewelry I wore a red necklace, and red bracelets.  I added a red belt around my waist.

I'm so excited that I decided to give maxi dresses a try.  They are so pretty, feminine, yet comfortable as well.  I wore my maxi dresses all day walking around Savannah and I was very cool and comfortable.

And now, for the Link Up!  Here is what the lovely Cheryl is wearing this week.  I just love her!  She always has such a beautiful smile on her face and just radiates joy.  She has a great sense of style too!  I love her looks!  I have always struggled finding over-fifty fashion bloggers who wear clothes I would like to wear too...Cheryl is one of the few who looks I would definitely re-create for myself.  Be sure to check out her blog and follow her on all her social media links.  If you'd like to follow me, you can find all of my social media links on my Contact Page.

A Romantic Dress From Francesca's

There is the most beautiful field of sunflowers growing along side the highway we take to church every week.  I asked my husband if we could stop and take some pictures one Sunday, because I LOVE sunflowers!  They are my absolute favorite fall flower.

This gorgeous dress is from Francesca's.  I went to the mall last week to pick up some lotion from Bath & Body Works  and ended up coming home $150.00 poorer because of Francesca's.  But I couldn't help myself!  They had an amazing sale that I have never seen Francesca's do before.  Every clothing item in their store, no matter what the original cost, was $20.00 as long as you purchased them in increments of two.  And their jewelry was on sale too!  Only $10.00 for anything if you bought in increments of two.  I left the store with 3 dresses, one top, and six pieces of jewelry!  Not bad for only $150.00

The dress is a vintage/romantic style.  It has a tie in the back neckline with a large V Shape opening.

My black straw hat is old.  I think I picked it up at JCPenney.

I love the color and print on the dress.  I like the vertical line of the flowers, instead of having a flower print scattered all over the dress.  There are also beautiful tropical birds on it in addition to the flowers.  I'm a huge bird lover, especially tropical birds, so the bird print is a huge plus for me!

The champagne fringe and bead bracelets were also purchased at Francesca's.

I wore gold rings, and carried a blush clutch (old, Charming Charlie's).

Because the dress is on the short side, and I was going to church, I wore burgundy flats (old, Express).

These old pink earrings have been in jewelry box for ages.  They went perfect with this dress!

It was warm the day I wore this dress, but I can't wait to style it for fall with a kimono or cardigan, booties, or leggings/skinny jeans underneath.

The dress is still available HERE and the bracelets are still available HERE.
