April Stylish Monday - Everyday Luxe

On the second Monday of every month a group of style bloggers and I pick a theme, style an outfit based on that theme, and then do a link up together where you can join too!  This month's theme is "Everyday Luxe".  This was a hard theme for all the ladies;  everyone was uncertain what "Everyday Luxe" even meant.  So we finally decided as a group to interpret the phrase for ourselves.

I looked at the two words "Everyday" and "Luxe" and diagnosed them separately.  "Everyday" for me would be something I would wear on a normal day at home or on a casual outing since I don't work outside the home.  "Luxe" is short for "Luxurious" which could mean anything from diamonds to fur, whatever one would consider "Luxurious".

Although some ladies in the group really didn't like the theme because they were so perplexed by it, I thought it was actually a pretty good idea.  We are now one year into these crazy lockdowns and let's face it, most of us are growing weary of wearing leggings and sweatshirts everyday.  This challenge provided an opportunity for me to show how I could wear something comfortable at home, yet still feel confident about my appearance.

For the comfort part of my outfit, I chose elastic waist leggings, and the softest, coziest cardigan ever!  The luxurious part of my outfit is the pretty lace trimmed camisole, the sparkly gold sequined flats, and lots of jewelry!

My jeggings are from Liverpool and they are one of my all time favorite Stitch Fix items.  Like I said, they have an elastic waist, the "zipper" and "pockets" are faux.  You just pull them up, and they do stay up all day without a belt.  The fabric is stretchy, and doesn't sag at the end of the day.  They are seriously the best, most comfortable pair of "jeans" I ever owned.

My sweater I picked up at CJBanks.  I was so sorry to hear about their brick and mortar stores closing. There are not enough clothing stores for us older women as it is.  They still have an on-line store, but I really don't like buying clothes on-line except through styling services where I can easily return what I don't like.

This sweater is SO SO SOFT.  I feel like I'm wrapped up in a cozy blanket when I wear it.  I think they call this type of sweater a "popcorn sweater", for it has a raised texture like little kernels of popcorn.

For jewelry I chose large rose gold hoop earrings, a single pearl necklace and a multi-strand bracelet.  The lace in my camisole adds so much luxurious romance to my outfit.  And don't forget how much just a little change in your make up can alter your look from "everyday" to "luxurious".  Here I used pretty glittery pastels from the Naked 3 palette and shiny rose pink lipstick.

For footwear, I wanted something comfortable, yet "luxurious" (Are you sick of that word yet? 😀) so I wore these gold sequined flats from Old Navy.

And now lets see what the rest of the ladies in the group are wearing:

                                                   Nancy

Nancy -  Nancy’s Fashion Style - Everyday luxe for me means that I am able to work out! Well, not every day, some weeks I do though, but at least five days a week. What makes it a luxury for me then? I have a hereditary lung disease and working out is so very important for my health. The fact that I can work out is a luxe. Most lung patients don’t have  the energy for it. And I can still work out at the gym at my physiotherapist twice week and I have a gym at home. That is everyday luxe to me!

                                                                             Shelbee

Shelbee - Shelbee on the Edge - “Everyday Luxe to me means combining luxurious fabrics and prints into an everyday outfit. A combination of leather, leopard print, sequins, and laced up suede seemed like a perfect pairing for this theme.”

Nicole

Nicole - High Latitude Style - For me everyday luxe means that I wear what I love  even when the piece would be considered Sunday’s Best by my Mom’s or Granny’s generation. An example is this teal silk skirt. However, I pair it with typical everyday wear like this cardigan with bold colors abstract huge floral  print that I probably wore more often as a top than cardigan.

Emma

Emma - The Style Splash - “When I think of everyday luxe, soft textures and bold prints immediately come to mind. Velvet is my ultimate luxe fabric and these trousers are so comfortable (the elasticated waistband helps!). Paired with a bright retro print shirt and I’m feeling groovy and comfy!”

Ada

Ada - Elegance and Mommyhood - “What is Everyday Luxe?! It can be interpreted many different ways, I think depending on your lifestyle and your profession, too. In my opinion it’s pieces that are timeless, well-made and classic! Take a pair of leopard flats for example. I have always owned a pair of nice (not cheap) leopard flats. This new Sam Edelman calf-hair pair replaced by White House Black Market ones. I also think every woman needs a nice neutral knit dress and this cable-knit Zara dress is the one. Ditto on a beautiful blazer: go for a black, or another neutral color; think of a classic pattern like herringbone or glen plaid print which are classy and timeless.”

Julie

Julie - Fashion Trends and Friends and Instagram FashionTandF -  “Everyday Luxe for me is taking an average relatively plain item like a t-shirt, a jean jacket, a pair of sweatpants but knocking it up a level or two by adding elements of interest like rhinestones, sequins or glitter!”

Gwen

Gwen - Gwen Lives Well and Instagram - GwenLivesWell - “Everyday luxe to me means adding a little something that changes the whole feel of an outfit and my mood. And for me, that’s shoes! Just by picking a pair of fab shoes, my mood brightens, my step is livelier, and my outfit is elevated.”

And Me!

Amy - Amy’s Creative Pursuits - For me, Everyday Luxe is something you would wear at home or for a casual outing that is comfortable yet has some small luxurious elements to make you feel confident and beautiful.

Ageless Style - Spring Transitions

This month's Ageless Style theme is "Spring Transitions" and it was picked by ME!  I chose this theme because I live in Wisconsin and every single spring I am tormented by my southern blogging buds who are posting these gorgeous spring outfits (dresses, bare legs, flats or sandals, etc.) while I am usually still buried knee deep in snow and dealing with frigid temperatures.  Thus, it is always a "challenge" for me to dress according to the spring fashion calendar, YET, still stay toasty warm in my frigid Wisconsin climate.  This year however has been a miracle!  It has been so beautiful and warm it melted all the snow!  The trees are budding, the bulbs are poking out of the ground, and I couldn't be happier.  How long it will last before the cold and snow returns, I have no idea, but I'm praying it doesn't.

My usual way of transitioning from winter to spring is to toss out the dark winter colors and bring in the pastels!  Here I have put together a spring outfit perfect for those early, chilly spring days.

I started with a lightweight cardigan in a spring color and then I built my outfit around it.  Light cardigans are a must-have for me in the spring/summer months.  I keep one always in my car or handbag to throw on when I entered an air-conditioned building.  But I love them this time of the year for staying warm when there is still a chill in the air.

Next, I added a spring floral top, light wash denim, and a neck tie scarf.  I use scarves for warmth more in the spring/summer months then I do in the winter.  Most of my winter coats zip or snap right up to the neck making a scarf unnecessary, but in the spring/summer a lightweight scarf is perfect for those slightly chilly days and/or air conditioned buildings.  They can easily be tied to a handbag or tossed inside to use only when needed.

I went with a neutral cross bag instead of a blue or pink one, because otherwise the outfit would have become to overwhelming pastel.  My bracelet is a new find from World Market.  I just love all the pretty colors in the beads.

My jeans have a pastel, floral embroidery on them on both the lower and upper legs.  For footwear I chose an old pair of gingham sneakers I have owned for decades.  Transitioning from boots and booties to flats and sandals in spring is always something I look forward to.  I get so excited when I no longer have to put on a pair of boots to leave the house, and I can wear sandals or flats again!

If you live in a colder climate like me and you have to patiently wait to wear the newest spring fashions, you can still join in the celebration of spring with color!  Just pack away your black and brown cardigans, and bring out the clothes that scream the color of spring!

And now be sure to check out what how the rest of the ladies transition into spring.  Most of them already live in warm climates so they do not have the same issues as I do, so it will be interesting to see how they interpreted this challenge.

Ageless Style - "Outfit Challenged"

The Ageless Style Link Up-  The first Monday of every month a group of over forty fashion bloggers pick a monthly theme and show different ways of styling it.

Hello!  Long time no see.  I am not back to a regular blogging schedule but I want to remain faithful to my blogging commitments so I will still participate in the Ageless Style Link Up once a month as long as they have it.  But before I begin the link up post I wanted to give everyone a little update on me and my family during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

First of all, we are all healthy.  Everyone is still employed, although my husband
was told he can't work over-time anymore.  He always worked sixty hours a week our entire marriage, and now he is working a normal forty hours a week.  It's nice to have him home more, but the loss of money from over time will hurt.   We're also not sure how much longer he will even have a job, if this quarantine goes on much longer.  That is scary, but I'm grateful he is still working for now as I know so many Americans are not.  All we can do is take one day at a time for now so we don't fall into complete panic mode.

My children and grandchildren moved in with us the day before the "15 Days To Slow The Spread".  It's been wonderful having them with us for the grandchildren have been a wonderful distraction for me.  I would be going out of my mind with worry if they weren't here with me.  Jason, my son-in-law is a private school teacher and has created an office for himself in our basement and is teaching his students on-line.  Ashley is a private voice teacher and has been teaching her students via the internet as well.  My other son Jordan is still in Illinois and still working full time.  Although he is very lonely, we all agree he should stay there while he still has a job.  But if he loses his job, he will move back home as well.

I know everyone is hopeful that this will end soon and life will return to normal, and I hope so too.  But, I really think there is a more sinister plot behind all of this, and life will probably never be the same again.  I won't get into all my "conspiracy theories" here as I'm sure many of you are aware of all of them already, but in preparation for the worst, we have been super busy planning and building a vegetable garden.  I've always had a massive flower gardens, but other than tomatoes and cucumbers, I never had a vegetable garden.  All the extra work of the normal spring garden chores, plus the new vegetable garden, and having more mouths to feed, has left me little time for blogging.  I still plan on doing an Easter post, because no matter what, I'm dressing up in my new Easter dress from TJMaxx (that I purchased before this whole nightmare began), and having church with my family in our living room celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ!  I feel like the "Who's" in "Whoville" in "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas".  No matter what the world "stole" from me, I'm still going to sing "Christ The Lord Is Risen Today" on Easter Sunday and I hope you do too!

Now, on to the Ageless Style Link Up shall we?  The theme this month is "Outfit Challenged".  Shugunna challenged us to style an item in our closet that "we liked when we saw it, brought it home, but then never or rarely worn it".  I immediately thought of this Ivanka Trump dress that I purchased from Ross two years ago and never wore.  I purchased it for my trip to Savannah but never ended up wearing it because I thought it was too uncomfortable to wear walking around Savannah streets all day.  It hung in my closet then unused because I always felt it was too "dressy" to wear anywhere, including church.  I thought "Maybe I'll wear it to a wedding someday", but I always ended up wearing something else.  So, when Shugunna challenged us to style our rarely worn items, I decided now was a good time to wear this dress to church but to try and style it "more casually" so I didn't feel so "dressed up" in it.

To tone down the formality of the dress to make it a little more suitable for our "casual attire" church, I simply added a lightweight long blue cardigan from Stitch Fix.    It was also a great way to extend the wear of the dress into other seasons, as it is a sleeveless dress meant for warmer temperatures.

The weight of the cardigan is perfect for these cooler spring temperatures adding just the right of warmth.

I accessorized with a taupe clutch (also from Stitch Fix) and simple, elegant pearl jewelry.  I kept the jewelry understated to tone down the fanciness of the dress.

For shoes, I thought it was finally time to show my toes as all the snow melted.  I picked these open toed pumps from my closet.

Because it was a cool, windy day the day we took these pictures, I did keep the cardigan on all day.  But I also wanted to show you a few pictures of this dress without the cardigan.

Like most Ivanka Trump dresses, it is a very figure flattering dress but also modest.  I just love Ivanka  Trump's style and I'm in constant awe of how amazing she always looks.
