Gospel hit the mainstream at the end of the 80s and many popular bubblegum and crossover acts tried their hand at the genre, some never turning back. Here the MFM stable seized the moment and put out a compilation featuring most of their biggest stars, including Mercy Pakela, Ali Katt, PJ Powers (Hotline), William Mthethwa and keyboard fiend Mathambo aka Bones Brettell. Then there are the established names of the genre like Rebecca, Benjamin Dube, Pure Gold, at times backed by the likes of the Holy Spirits Choir, Forever Mass Choir, Baragwanath Choir and Galathia Ama First Born Choir.

HEY FEVER! - The Sneezing Song (1984)
MFM, XFL204
Producers: Bones Brettell & Bernie Millar
Engineers: Bones Brettell & Bernie Millar

Super-catchy novelty hit that helped lay the sound for many bubblegum songs to come. It made it overseas, for example to Germany, marketed as Italo-Disco. B-side contains a dub 'Sing-it-yourself' version.
"Bones Brettell (already famous as keyboard played for supergroup Hotline and hitmaking record producer) and Bernie Millar (already famous for being Bones' buddy) decided that in the light of the current flu epidemic, sneezers of the world should have some kind of VIRAL ANTHEM!
"The discerning record collector will notice that the beat has not only an infectious dancing rhythm, but is specifically designed for those who prefer to boogie in the horizontal position, while afflicted by infections of another nature."

BONES BRETTELL - Mathambo (1987)
MFM, FML1016
Producers: B. Brettell, B. Millar, G. Nzuza, G. Cutler & A. Coakley
Best known as the keyboardist for Hotline, Ron 'Bones' Brettell had earlier found international fame with glam hitmakers Clout. Later he went on to produce many of the MFM stable's biggest hitmakers, like Mercy Pakela, Ali Katt and Casino, adding his own signature synth sounds. Somewhere along the way he dropped this solo album.
Mathambo (future) may not have sold well but it underlines the influence he had on a range of acts. 'Everybody Come Let's Dance' is nearly identical to another of his side-projects, Zone 3's Mr Chacklas. Titles carry messages of unity - eg 'Can't Take Away My Pride' and the instrumental 'Join Hands' and 'Everything Is Possible', as well as a cover of 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'. Reminiscent of other keyboard albums by Black Moses, AYB and Hanz.
