Good Morning, Gratuitous Taran Killam

Well it sounds like Taran Killam might have really gotten fucked by SNL, and not in the good "fucked" way either. Boo to bad fucking!

It's funny, I can actually pinpoint The Moment I Fell For Taran Killam because I actually wrote a post about it! There was a commercial for the episode Daniel Craig was hosting where Daniel & Taron got kind of intimate and wham, that's all it took. From there on I took note whenever they got Taron undressed...

... like as a weird sexy horse gladiator, or in a silly surf movie. These are the memories I will cherish, anyway, now that he's been flung from the safe and loving arms of Mr. Lorne Michaels. Oh and also these gifs which are from his recent sex-comedy Casual Encounters, which I forgot about until yesterday's firing news. Hit the jump for some naked Taran if you're carin' (ha I rhymed)...

Pics of the Day

.
I didn't take any pictures during the Little Shop of Horrors show last night; I figured I wouldn't need to, that someone with a finer seat and a finer camera than I would... and sure enough. (via and via) And really I didn't need to take any pictures because I am never going to forget the experience, not ever, not as long as I live.
.
.
It was that good. When those first tender notes of "Somewhere That's Green" plinked off the piano I was done for. I hadn't really given much thought in the immediate lead-up to the show to how integral the 1986 movie was to my childhood, but it was came rushing back as Ellen sang - I was ten years old and she was singing to me up there. It seems silly, in retrospect, to have not realized what a force it would be. It was... really quite something.

Everybody else was terrific - Jake was lovely and sweet and managed to mostly overcome his hot-to-death miscasting with some fine nebbishy voice and body work; Taran Killam killed.

But it was, as it oughta be, all about Audrey.
What a girl.

Pics of the Day

.
I am bubbling and brewing inside my belly, I can barely contain my excitement about tonight's Little Shop of Horrors show starring Ellen Greene and Jake Gyllenhaal. These two pics (via) are from last night's dress rehearsal - they're doing three shows total, one tonight and two tomorrow. I love that Jake's gotten the full-on Teen Movie Nerdy Girl treatment - button his shirt up all the way and put some glasses on him and Suddenly it's Seymour. Ellen of course looks fabulous, and hey look it's Taran Killam as the mad dentist! Arghhhhhh I am sooooo excited I can't even make words to express it argggghhhhhhhhhhhh gimmmeeeeeeeee

Suddenly Jakey

.
So I just got back from lunch to read that Jake Gyllenhaal is going to perform the Seymour role in the three-performance Little Shop of Horrors revival here in NYC that original Audrey Ellen Greene's been slated to do - it takes place in July, RIGHT AROUND MY BIRTHDAY clearly, because what is this besides a massive birthday present to me and me alone? My pal Joe said it best:
.

.
It took me three times through reading the article to even notice that Taran Killam is going to play the Steve Martin dentist role, which in itself is very cool! But I don't really even have words for the rest of this news. It's beyond my capabilities. Anyway I've had such a shitty week, and this has put a great big smile on my face. I mean, I snatched up tickets to this the second they went on sale for Ellen alone, and I've been voicing my excitement about the show to anybody who would listen, even before this. After this, watch out, everyone-who-knows-me's eardrums.

Pour Some Marshmallow On Me

.
The role is somewhat different according to their description of it but DH has word that SNL's Cecily Strong is wanted for what amounts to the "William Atherton role" in the Lady Ghostbusters reboot. She'd play a government figure that's dealing with the 'Busters. I love Cecily Strong! I was just yammering at my boyfriend the other day about how Cecily can always be counted on to know her lines on SNL, which may sound like small praise but the percentage of folks you see staring at cue-cards makes you realize it ain't. She is giving it her all at all times. I think in the current cast she's terribly under-rated - even I'm guilty of going on and on about Kate McKinnon or Aidy Bryant (or Taran Killam's bulge) and leaving poor Cecily in the cold. She's responsible for one of my favorite skits in recent years - a dog food commercial slash mental breakdown that must be seen at least on a weekly basis (I have it on my iPad at all times, just in case the mood strikes me).

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... hanging ten with Taran Killam.

I looked around and couldn't find this scene from this week's SNL capped anywhere, save a couple of gifs on Tumblr natch, so there. Shirtless Taran for everybody! (I found that behind-the-scenes shot on SNL's official Tumblr.) What did you guys think of this week's SNL? I thought it was great but I've seen the opposite reaction most everywhere. All I know is I thought Charlize was game, they got Taran out of his shirt, they gave me a new Girlfriends Talk Show, and I will be quoting the cat skit for the rest of my days.

I Am Link

.
--- Saggy Bottom - In case you care the nominations for the Screen Actors Guild awards were announced this morning, Glenn's got 'em over at The Film Experience. Happy about all the 12 Years a Slave love - Fassy's nominated! I was worried his non-campaigning would push him out of the race altogether. Do you think he might really get an Oscar nom finally? Anyway the big to-do is the fact that Robert Redford didn't make the cut for a Best Actor nomination (which honestly is fine by me I wasn't nuts about All Is Lost anyway, and I find the argument that Robert Redford is overdue annoying - he's never been much of an actor. A movie star, for sure! But not an actor. Not that that's really stopped people from winning awards before.)

--- And Speaking of SAG snubs, I love Joe Reid for many reasons, and citing Taran Killam as a snub for 12 Years a Slave just got tossed onto the heap.

--- Brady's Bunch - Actor Brady Corbet (you know him from Mysterious Skin, or the Funny Games remake, or Simon Killer, or from stalking me at The New York Film Festival) has written a script and is going to direct it, and he's gotten quite a triumvirate of actors to star in it - Tim Roth, Juliette Binoche, and Robert Pattinson! My my.
.
--- J-Lo's Napkin Rings - A dude who sold furniture to celebrities in Los Angeles a few years ago wrote an article about doing just that for Salon and it is pretty entertaining if you're into itty bitty starfucking encounters. Maybe I was just excited to hear what the hell Bridget Fonda's been up to. Buying candelsticks, apparently!

--- White Steed - Have any of you read Mark Helprin's book Winter's Tale? I have not and now it's a movie starring Colin Farrell so I won't have to, I guess. The Playlist, which is showing off the first trailer, says the book's long been considered unfilmable. Those always work out well, movie-wise.
.
--- Manned Machine - A few quotes from an interview with Joel Kinnaman on tackling Robocop can be read over here, but it's mostly just the expected PR stuff about how he wanted to work with the director José Padilha, blah blah. He does say that Padilha was able to get a political perspective, a point of view, into the thing, so we'll see. That's what I'm most worried about - Verhoeven's films, as big and ridiculous as they usually are, are absolutely nobody else's.

--- All Hours - Haven't gotten a chance to read this yet but Steven Soderbergh has written up his thoughts on Martin Scorsese's film After Hours and his love for it, for some reason. I mean "for some reason" with regards to why he wrote, not why he loves it - I love After Hours too. It's in my top five Martys, for sure.

--- Chainsaw Fucker - Bust out the bee-bee-que, an Off-Broadway musical version of Heathers is going to open here in New York City in March. Its from the guy who made the Legally Blonde musical. Hmm, I wonder if he's perhaps a homosexual?

Timberlake Takes A Horse Ride

.
By request! Didja all watch Justin Timberlake's episode of SNL last evening? It was per usual one of the better episodes of the season; JT learns his bits, which always makes a big difference - making a bigger difference is the writers seemed to give a shit this week, and actually wrote jokes (well for the most part).

Anyway in one skit Taran Killan danced around in a horse head while in sluttiest little Roman skirt the world done ever seen (because that's what one does, natch), and here are caps, because we like Taran Killam, we do. Hit the jump for all of them!

And Lo, A Taran Killam Crush Was Born

.
Photobucket
Watching these promos of Daniel Craig and SNL featured player Taran Killam playing around with each other (I wish - let's pray they keep things this homoerotic) in these promos for this weekend's Craig hosted episode (whee) reminded me that I never posted any of those shots of Taran in his tighty-whities on the JGL episode the other week. Situation rectified...
