Good Morning, World

I saw that somebody on Tumblr posted these gifs yesterday of Finn Wittrock porky-pigging it in some movie but I forgot to keep track of what movie it was. So I don't have that information -- feel free to drop it in the comments if you do. But I think we'll all be okay without the information, just enjoying the gifs for what they are. And seeing Finn in tighty-whities makes me think of him playing Dandy on American Horror Story's fourth season and I like thinking about Dandy, I do.

Jeremy Irvine's One Man Gay Agenda

I am of mixed mind on the subject of LGBT characters requiring LGBT actors to portray them, but at a certain point it gets a little much for a not-out actor to keep taking on like one thousand gay roles without saying anything, and so I have to admit I am side-eyeing the news that actor Jeremy Irvine, who threw the first brick at Stonewall according to Roland Emmerich, is probably going to play Alan Scott, the openly gay Green Lantern character in the forthcoming HBO Max series. Yes this is the same series from Greg Berlanti that recently cast Finn Wittrock as another Green Lantern -- there will be time-jumping apparently...

"Scott was Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man. He was created by Martin Nodell and made his comic book debut in 1940. A train engineer by trade, Scott derived his powers from a mystical green lantern crafted from a mysterious meteorite. He later joined the Justice Society of America, and in universe-hopping adventures would sometimes team with members of the Green Lantern Corps, including Hal Jordan. Based on the DC Comics property, the show was first announced in 2019 and was ordered to series last year. The story spans decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with Scott, and then heading to 1984 with cocky alpha male Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes."

And, listen. If it was just the one role (this year) playing a gay man maybe I wouldn't say anything. But Jeremy Irvine is ALSO playing a gay man in Terence Davies next movie called Benediction, which I've talked here about several times before -- he's playing Ivor Novello, real-world sexually-conflicted movie-star and the lover of this film's main character, the poet Siegfried Sassoon (who's being played by Jack Lowden, current boyfriend of Saoirse Ronan and future boyfriend of me). This is just getting to be a lot without addressing the pink elephant in the room, Jeremy!

I'm not the biggest fan of poking around in an actor's personal life -- I gave up most gossip of that sort awhile back and it's suited me just fine. I have no idea if Irvine is actually gay or not, and I'm not trying to shove him out of any closet if he is. Maybe -- and this is hardly a stretch! -- the Roland Emmerichs and Terence Davies and Greg Berlantis of the world just like to stare at Jeremy Irvine. Like I said -- not a stretch! I sure like to stare at Jeremy Irvine myself.

But I feel as if we've traveled passed the rainbow rubicon with this dude at this point -- especially after the vociferous pushback that Stonewall got for feeling so white and weirdly un-gay (not to mention terrible, just terrible) -- and Jeremy Irvine needs to have some kind of a talk with us all at some point in 2021. I look forward to it, Jeremy! And until then we'll spend some more time doing what we normally do, just sitting quietly and politely and staring at you, after the jump...

Good Morning, World

Did I really never post that photo here on the site? That seems a terrible oversight on my part, my apologies -- I tweeted it out once but never got around to properly enshrining it into my Finn Wittrock Archives before now. Fixed it! I realized my oversight when Behind the Blinds magazine, where it came from, dropped a couple more photos from their interminably released shoot; I've complained about them once, I'll complain about them again, I have no idea how their magazine works. Fifty different covers, release dates all over the map -- it's chaos, chaos! I guess the spread at least allows me the chance to share last week's news that Finn will be playing a Green Lantern? It's not a movie though, it's an HBO Max series, so I have no idea what that means -- I think it will exist in its own little bubble separate from all of the Momoas & Gadots. I suppose we'll see. I'm happy to have Finn doing something non-Ryan-Murphy-related anyway. Okay sure the series is from TV's Other Gay White Meat Greg Berlanti, but it's a lil' change at least. Hit the jump for three more photos of our Finn...

Finn Wittrock Fourteen Times

Somehow missed this photoshoot of Finn Wittrock that came out around the same time as Ratched (ugh) earlier this year, but earlier-this-year's loss is today's gain because now I have something to post today. The shoot is for Odda Magazine, aka the same place that Josh O'Connor photo-shoot came from on Tuesday, which is how I stumbled upon this one -- see, I always told you guys that Josh O'Connor would lead to good things. No I didn't. I don't really have anything to say right now in case that wasn't clear by the tediousness I've already barfed all over this post. Having one of those days! Sometimes you just start writing hoping something amusing comes -- this has not been one of those fortunate instances. But since Ratched is the reason this photo-shoot I am sharing even exists at least my braindead writing is in keeping with the theme. (Ooooh, I pulled out a last minute zinger!) Anyway hit the jump for the rest of the photos, along with a few gifs I made from a video of the shoot...

Finn Wittrock Four Times

Let's just get it out of the way right at the start -- Ryan Murphy's new Netflix series Ratched, premiering on Friday (watch the trailer here), is kind of awful. But it's "kind of awful" in that way so many Ryan Murphy products are, in that I still somehow plowed through all eight episodes without a second thought, and there's enough insanity going on to make you think it's not all that awful while it's going on. Just don't try to make sense of anyone's motivations from scene to scene, episode to episode, beginning to end -- none of it makes a goddamned lick of sense.

And yet there are bright spots (JUDY MF'ING DAVIS), most especially of the gratuitous sort -- one of them being Corey Stoll spends a lot of time with his pants down in old-timey boxers and garters, and another being our boy Finn Wittrock here looks better than he ever has and the camera takes full advantage of that fact. So just know what you're in for going in and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised. (The lesbian oysters scene is a classic, I will say.) And if not, Hot Finn. You could do worse. (See more of this shoot back here.)

The Ratched Boys

.
Last week when I shared with you the very first photos from Ryan Murphy's forthcoming Ratched series, starring Sarah Paulson as the villainous electroshock-lovin' nurse from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in her earlier pre-Jack days, I was happy save one complaint -- where the hell was Corey Stoll? Well now the trailer's here and my pissiness has been answered, with Stoll, as seen above. Phew! Also...

... I am pretty sure, after years of extensive studies in the subject of knowing every inch of the personage of Corey Stoll from bald head to big toe, that that shot could also be of him, even though we see no face there. I don't need his face to know, dammit! Maybe Corey Stoll in soaking wet boxer shorts is my religion now. (I should add here that a bird in the know has whispered in my ear that we do indeed see Corey in his boxers at some point on the show, so I could be projecting. But I don't think so. I think that's him.)

Anyway from there I suppose, oh do I ever suppose, that an MNPP dissection of this show's first trailer wouldn't be complete without me including a gif of Finn Wittrock half naked on his knees behind bars. I mean we all know where we are right now. We made our choices to end up here. It's just what fits. And Finn appears to be playing some sort of crazy psycho type on the show, which is exactly how we best like our Finn -- Dandy Forever!

Ratched premiere on Netflix on September 18th!

Pics of the Day

.
Vanity Fair has been kind enough to grace us with the first photos from Ryan Murphy's upcoming Netflix series about the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest villainess Nurse Ratched, called simply Ratched -- actually I wish it was called "Simply, Ratched" because that would rule. In the film Louise Fletcher won an Oscar for her portrayal -- now comes, in the grand tradition of "Things Ryan Murphy has touched," Sarah Paulson to tackle the role. But more exciting than that to me is the supporting cast, which has Murphy finally getting his actressexual claws into both Judy Davis AND (drumroll please) the queen Sharon Stone!

And not just any ol' Sharon Stone, but Sharon Stone with a pet fucking monkey. This is like that gif of Wendi McLendon-Covey saying she's going to give the gays everything they want, but in a TV show form. Up to an including COREY STOLL BEING ON THIS SHOW, but he's frustratingly not featured in any of these photos. We do see Murphy regular Finn Wittrock though!

On that note there's a second picture that VF says is of Sharon Stone with Finn but I swear to all things holy -- by which I mean "Sharon Stone with a pet fucking monkey" -- that it doesn't look like Finn in the photo to me. The person looks WAY too young! Am I nuts? You decide...

Ratched premieres on Netflix on September 18th,
meaning we will probably get a trailer soon!

ETA Vanity Fair has updated and confirmed that the picture is NOT Finn Wittrock -- it's Richard Madden friend and actor Brandon Flynn, who's in a single episode of the show.

Pics of the Day

.
You know I'm busy when a picture of Jai Courtney hugging a shirtless Finn Wittrock has been on the internet for four days and I'm only now getting around to posting it! Last week this site here posted several new shots from Semper Fi, Jai's military crime drama, including the three I'm sharing in this post. (Click over for a few more.) This movie also released a trailer a few weeks back, I posted it here.

I assume the top picture if from the pool scene we saw some pap snaps from. Anyway this movie is out this weekend, I think mainly on demand. In related news to those of you who've seen Judy with Renee Zellweger, which I have not gotten around to -- how is Finn in it? Every word I've seen spilled on the film has been about Zellweger, with the implication that the movie besides her is kind of lacking, which worries me for our lil' Dandy boy. We love our lil' Dandy boy!

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... booked hard by Finn & Jai.

It looks like the movie that was Semper Fi that got its title changed to the boring and bland Edge of Dawn has gotten its title changed back to Semper Fi again, at least according to the trailer that just got released. Semper Fi is a better title! Score one for better movie titles.

But the movie also immediately then gets a point deducted for showing off a truly awful back tattoo on Jai Courtney's beautiful back in that same trailer, so I guess we're at even again. But hey "even" here is not so bad, since this movie does star Jai and Finn and Nat Wolff...

... and we saw them all shooting a pool scene that one time, and it also promises to have Jai wearing both military and cop uniforms at some point in it. That's a hell of a good base to start off from. Here's the trailer:

Semper Fi hits theaters and demand on October 4th.

Rock Out With Your Wittrock Out

.
Well we started the day with Jai Courtney, we might as well end the day with Jai Courtney -- and oh to start and end the day with Jai Courtney, like for really real -- that there is the first official (I think) poster for his upcoming cop slash army thriller Edge of Dawn (I say "I think" because there's only one source and there's a chance it could be fan-art I guess). This was previously titled Semper-Fi, when we posted all those pictures of Jai & Finn Wittrock & Co hanging out together on the set -- just last week we shared the first official photo from the film, which is pretty similar, but not the same, to that shot of Jai seen in the poster. Anyway in summation whoever put Finn Wittrock's name where Finn Wittrock's name is on that poster... I tip my glass to you, you crafty sumbitch.

Pic of the Day

.
The movie formerly known as Semper Fi, which stars Jai Courtney and Finn Wittrock and several other dudes of that sort and which we ogled the set a few times during its shoot, has gotten a re-title -- now it's Edge of Dawn (god that's bland). Deadline shares that news along with that first official picture of Jai and the word that it is now heading to Cannes looking to get picked up by a distributor. Oh and they have some more info on the film, too:

"Also starring in the former are Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story), Beau Knapp (Seven Seconds) and Arturo Castro (Broad City). Directed by Henry-Alex Rubin (Murderball) and written by Rubin and Sean Mullin, the film is produced by Karina Miller (To The Bone) from Sparkhouse Media and David Lancaster (Whiplash) of Rumble Films. The story follows Cal (Courtney), a by-the-book police officer who makes ends meet as a reservist in the Marine Corps along with his rowdy and inseparable group of childhood friends. When Cal’s younger, reckless half-brother Oyster (Wolff) accidentally kills a guy in a barfight and tries to flee, Cal is torn between his family and his job."

Corey in the Cuckoo's Nest

.
I should hold off on writing this post until tomorrow as I'm literally about to run out the door but it's just SO EXCITING I can't help myself -- Ryan Murphy took to Instagram to announce a bunch of Sarah Paulson's co-stars for the Nurse Ratched series they're doing for for Netflix (yes it's a prequel about the much loathed nurse in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and the whole list is insane (appropriate, given the source material's location) -- besides former proteges like Finn Wittrock and Jon Jon Briones and Charlie Carver he's got Cynthia Nixon (!!) and Judy Davis (!!!) and Sharon Stone (!!!!) and on the dude hotness tip, he's got Hunter Parrish and yes as pictured above my other bald boyfriend Corey effing Stoll. As Armie Hammer once said, "Good. Ness!" No word on who's who yet but I'll keep you abreast, obviously...

Which is Hotter?

.
A happy 32 to our boy Jai Courtney today! Not sure if he's celebrating on the set of his Marines Movie with Finn Wittrock that we've been keeping an eye on but I like to think of them... celebrating. (ETA they are still shooting - he posted this picture yesterday!) Anyway after he finishes Semper Fi he's supposed to make a movie called BEEF...

... which I have taken to capitalizing because obviously a movie called BEEF starring Jai needs to be capitalized. BEEF also stars Timothy Olyphant and Stranger Things' hair-do actor Joe Keery, among others, and we're looking forward to it - the plot is, according to IMDb, about "a manager of a fast food restaurant in the Midwest [who] is wanted by his bookies." Jai plays a character called "Dipper" and I am already in love. Anyway until then for today to celebrate Jai's birthday let's look backwards at all the beef we've had before...

Semper Finn

.
I'm not sure if Semper Fi is still shooting right now but it was as of a few days ago (according to jai Courtney's Instagram) and that has seemed like kind of a long shoot, no? It was January when we shared the first pictures of Jai Courtney and Finn Wittrock and Beau Knapp and Arturo Castro on the set and those were already a little dated when we found them. As are these pictures (two weeks old now!) of Finn scampering around half-naked with the rest of the boys watching him scamper half-naked around. Hit the jump for a dozen or so shots of said scampering...

Pics of the Day

.
Well here's something to look forward to! Jai Courtney and Finn Wittrock are co-starring in a thriller called Semper Fi - along with Beau Knapp and Arturo Castro, also seen there - about a group of Marine friends who try to break one of their brothers out of prison after coming back from Afghanistan. The film was just announced over the weekend...

... but the boys are already out filming, or at least bonding, in the wilds of Louisiana - Jai's been Instagraming from the set a bunch (for instance it appears he just got all his hair buzzed off this morning). The film's the first feature-length fiction project from director Henry-Alex Rubin, who made the documentary Murderball back in 2005. Anyway let's hope that Jai keeps up to his usual bad-boy set habits and we get to see him streaking around Finn at some point...

I Am Link

.
--- Fierce Hairdo - It's just a teaser but I can already say with true and honest conviction that I am already infatuated with Jessica Chastain's villainous-seeming hint of blonde roots thanks to this look at them on the Death and Life of John F. Donovan poster via director Xavier Dolan - see the whole thing here. That said I want to see more of Kit Harington on the final poster - perhaps wearing jeans? - because of course I do. In case you missed that recent batch of pictures from the movie, click here. Donovan is supposed to be out sometime early next year.
.
--- Undead Director - The rumor we heard last month has now been confirmed - David Fincher's next movie will be the sequel to World War Z, starring once again his hot ass muse Brad Pitt. This will be Fincher's first film since 2014's Gone Girl so fine, whatever it takes to get him in the director's chair in. A Fincher Zombie Movie is certainly something to wrap one's head around, anyway.
.

--- Fashion Freak Out - I think the above tweet pretty much sums up my feelings on this news but let's fill in the actual details - Finn Wittrock has been cast in the Versace season of American Crime Story. He will be playing Jeff Trail, the first victim of Andrew Cunanan, played by Darren Criss. (See the first pictures from the show here.) I haven't read the book this is all based on so I might be wrong - EW describes Trail as a "friend" of Cunanan's, so maybe they won't have sex? Come on Ryan Murphy. Ya can't jerk me around like this. "True Story" be damned!
.
--- Bald As The Moon - Whiplash director Damien Chazelle is following up La la Land with a movie about the moon landing (based on this book) and I guess the first person cast was (of course) Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, but now even better - Corey Stoll has joined the cast to play his fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin! Although one thing that always bothers me about realistic space movies is those great big bulky un-sexy astronaut suits, so let's hope they find a work-around for that with Corey. Maybe we'll find out that Buzz was always naked in the shuttle? Why not? Anyway Kyle Chandler and the great Jason Clarke have also joined the cast so this thing's turning into a real Outer Space Stud Fest.
.
--- Bite Off - The two gents behind Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock series are next teaming up to reboot his shadow Victorian contemporary, a fellow called Drac. Dracula, that is. Hey it's got to be better than that Jonathan Rhys Meyers series, which totally wasted both Thomas Kretschmann and Oliver Jackson-Cohen in thankless supporting parts. (I'd support their parts, hardy hard hard.) Anyway this won't be striking any time soon, they say, but it will be released in intermittent movie-length bursts just like Sherlock is.
.
--- Corporate Hammer - Reading through the nutty plot description of Sorry To Bother You, an upcoming movie that Armie Hammer has just joined the cast of, it's hard not to think this is proof that the success of a movie like Get Out does have immediate positive repercussions:

"The film is about a black telemarketer with self-esteem issues who discovers a magical key to business success, propelling him to the upper echelons of the hierarchy just as his activist comrades are rising up against unjust labor practices. When he uncovers the macabre secret of his corporate overlords, he must decide whether to stand up or sell out."

I mean... that doesn't get green-lit without Get Out, right? But thankfully it has. Anyway as for Armie I am guessing he plays an executive or such. For such a beautiful blond rich straight white dude Armie sure does like diving into stories about queer people and people of color a lot, doesn't he? Good on him. (thanks Mac)
.
--- Fallen Feelings - The next Jurassic Park movie (I know we're supposed to call them "Jurassic World" movies now but I'm good, thanks) has gotten its subtitle and its first poster today - the film will be called Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Yeah, okay, sure. I wish I could be more excited - this being the franchise that turned me into a movie maniac in 1993 and all - but the last movie was such bollocks, and I've only grown to like it less and less with time. Anyway Jeff Goldblum is returning so there's that. I will try to be more enthusiastic... eventually... I promise. Fallen Kingdom though? I don't know. It's so clunky.
.
--- The Godfather of Gorey - Eli Roth is going to turn an Edward Gorey illustrated book into a movie! I am surprised that Hollywood hasn't turned to Gorey's stuff before this - it makes sense. Gorey did only illustrate this one though -- it's called The House With A Clock In Its Walls and it was written by John Bellairs in 1973; I guess it's one book in a 12 part series so who knows, perhaps Eli has found his Lord of the Rings. In less thrilling news the movie will star Jack Black, who gets on my last nerve 98% of the time, so there's that. Anybody read it?
.
--- And Finally the movie called God's Own Country is a gay drama that got a bunch of rave reviews at Sundance and Berlin earlier this year (from what I recall people often lumped it in with Call Me By Your Name, saying it was the better and sexier of the two) - it's out in the UK (where it's from) on September 1st and there's now a trailer and here it is:
.
