Jeremy Irvine's One Man Gay Agenda
"Scott was Earth’s first Green Lantern, who, true to the comics, is a gay man. He was created by Martin Nodell and made his comic book debut in 1940. A train engineer by trade, Scott derived his powers from a mystical green lantern crafted from a mysterious meteorite. He later joined the Justice Society of America, and in universe-hopping adventures would sometimes team with members of the Green Lantern Corps, including Hal Jordan. Based on the DC Comics property, the show was first announced in 2019 and was ordered to series last year. The story spans decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with Scott, and then heading to 1984 with cocky alpha male Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes."
And, listen. If it was just the one role (this year) playing a gay man maybe I wouldn't say anything. But Jeremy Irvine is ALSO playing a gay man in Terence Davies next movie called Benediction, which I've talked here about several times before -- he's playing Ivor Novello, real-world sexually-conflicted movie-star and the lover of this film's main character, the poet Siegfried Sassoon (who's being played by Jack Lowden, current boyfriend of Saoirse Ronan and future boyfriend of me). This is just getting to be a lot without addressing the pink elephant in the room, Jeremy!

The Ratched Boys
Anyway from there I suppose, oh do I ever suppose, that an MNPP dissection of this show's first trailer wouldn't be complete without me including a gif of Finn Wittrock half naked on his knees behind bars. I mean we all know where we are right now. We made our choices to end up here. It's just what fits. And Finn appears to be playing some sort of crazy psycho type on the show, which is exactly how we best like our Finn -- Dandy Forever!

Today's Fanboy Delusion
... and we saw them all shooting a pool scene that one time, and it also promises to have Jai wearing both military and cop uniforms at some point in it. That's a hell of a good base to start off from. Here's the trailer:

Rock Out With Your Wittrock Out
Well we started the day with Jai Courtney, we might as well end the day with Jai Courtney -- and oh to start and end the day with Jai Courtney, like for really real -- that there is the first official (I think) poster for his upcoming cop slash army thriller Edge of Dawn (I say "I think" because there's only one source and there's a chance it could be fan-art I guess). This was previously titled Semper-Fi, when we posted all those pictures of Jai & Finn Wittrock & Co hanging out together on the set -- just last week we shared the first official photo from the film, which is pretty similar, but not the same, to that shot of Jai seen in the poster. Anyway in summation whoever put Finn Wittrock's name where Finn Wittrock's name is on that poster... I tip my glass to you, you crafty sumbitch.

"Also starring in the former are Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story), Beau Knapp (Seven Seconds) and Arturo Castro (Broad City). Directed by Henry-Alex Rubin (Murderball) and written by Rubin and Sean Mullin, the film is produced by Karina Miller (To The Bone) from Sparkhouse Media and David Lancaster (Whiplash) of Rumble Films. The story follows Cal (Courtney), a by-the-book police officer who makes ends meet as a reservist in the Marine Corps along with his rowdy and inseparable group of childhood friends. When Cal’s younger, reckless half-brother Oyster (Wolff) accidentally kills a guy in a barfight and tries to flee, Cal is torn between his family and his job."

Which is Hotter?
... which I have taken to capitalizing because obviously a movie called BEEF starring Jai needs to be capitalized. BEEF also stars Timothy Olyphant and Stranger Things' hair-do actor Joe Keery, among others, and we're looking forward to it - the plot is, according to IMDb, about "a manager of a fast food restaurant in the Midwest [who] is wanted by his bookies." Jai plays a character called "Dipper" and I am already in love. Anyway until then for today to celebrate Jai's birthday let's look backwards at all the beef we've had before...

--- Corporate Hammer - Reading through the nutty plot description of Sorry To Bother You, an upcoming movie that Armie Hammer has just joined the cast of, it's hard not to think this is proof that the success of a movie like Get Out does have immediate positive repercussions:
"The film is about a black telemarketer with self-esteem issues who discovers a magical key to business success, propelling him to the upper echelons of the hierarchy just as his activist comrades are rising up against unjust labor practices. When he uncovers the macabre secret of his corporate overlords, he must decide whether to stand up or sell out."
I mean... that doesn't get green-lit without Get Out, right? But thankfully it has. Anyway as for Armie I am guessing he plays an executive or such. For such a beautiful blond rich straight white dude Armie sure does like diving into stories about queer people and people of color a lot, doesn't he? Good on him. (thanks Mac)
.
--- Fallen Feelings - The next Jurassic Park movie (I know we're supposed to call them "Jurassic World" movies now but I'm good, thanks) has gotten its subtitle and its first poster today - the film will be called Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Yeah, okay, sure. I wish I could be more excited - this being the franchise that turned me into a movie maniac in 1993 and all - but the last movie was such bollocks, and I've only grown to like it less and less with time. Anyway Jeff Goldblum is returning so there's that. I will try to be more enthusiastic... eventually... I promise. Fallen Kingdom though? I don't know. It's so clunky.
.
--- The Godfather of Gorey - Eli Roth is going to turn an Edward Gorey illustrated book into a movie! I am surprised that Hollywood hasn't turned to Gorey's stuff before this - it makes sense. Gorey did only illustrate this one though -- it's called The House With A Clock In Its Walls and it was written by John Bellairs in 1973; I guess it's one book in a 12 part series so who knows, perhaps Eli has found his Lord of the Rings. In less thrilling news the movie will star Jack Black, who gets on my last nerve 98% of the time, so there's that. Anybody read it?
