Ethan Peck Seven Times

Surprised that I still haven't watched any of the Star Trek series Strange New Worlds, given the Ethan Peck factor -- I was posting about him for years before he slapped on the pointy ears and started playing hunky baby Spock. Alas, who has the time. My boyfriend watches it and I think he likes it -- he likes one of the Star Trek series that are on anyway. isn't there another one? I can't keep shit I don't watch straight -- I can hardly keep shit that I do watch straight, for Guinan's sake. Anyway Ethan Peck! He is hot! This photo-shoot for InStyle magazine (read the interview here) is a good reminder of that without pointy ears getting in the way. Hit the jump for it all...

Which is Hotter?

I know that most everybody bailed on the social media platform known as Tumblr ages ago -- notably when they dumped the porn -- but not me! And as far as I'm concerned Tumblr giveth and Tumblr giveth even more, even still. Case in point today I randomly stumbled upon these two delight-filled videos of 1) Jon Bernthal boxing while shirtless & mustachioed (seen above) and 2) Star Treka ctor slash Gregory-grandson Ethan Peck kickboxing in slow-motion...

Neither might be the best quality video but did I mentioned they are delight-filled? Filled with delight, they are. I'm feeling a million years old today after two nights of restless half-assed sleep but these have given me a bit of a goose this afternoon, and maybe they will you too. But let's poll for the goosiest!

HAPPY INDEPLAIDPANTS DAY!

Last year we birthed a new tradition here at MNPP -- it was actually a reader's idea (shout-out to The Futurist!) but I liked it enough that I snatched it up and ran with it. Every year for the 4th of July I shall here henceforth post a gallery of men wearing Plaid Pants, in honor of this website's Dada-esque nonsense title. In case you're unaware -- I've been asked over the years, "What's with the site's name?" And the answer is, "Nonsense." It means nothing. I'd randomly bought a pair of plaid pants the day I started this site, I was trying to figure out something to call the little Blogger blog I was beginning to ramble my thoughts on movies to I assumed an audience of absolutely no one -- I looked down, I saw the pants, a name was born.

It really was genuinely meant to be Dada-esque, as that's my favorite school of Art -- telling that story ascribes more meaning to it than it actually deserves. I wanted to pick a name that meant absolutely nothing. Now that more than "an audience of absolutely no one" have shown up to read my nonsense though I will admit that I sometimes wish I'd picked something actually Movie-related -- I have ended up on lots of PR lists for fashion emails somehow, as if this site was actually about Plaid Pants, haha. And the site's title, WTF & goofy as it is, makes me doubt many Movie PR people will ever put it on a trailer or movie poster. ("Schindlers List is Devastating," says My New Plaid Pants.) Oh well! It is what it is at this point, 15 full years on, we embrace it. With a gallery of actors wearing Plaid Pants for the American Holiday of July 4th, apparently! Keeping things nonsensical, right on after the jump...

Good Morning, Gratuitous Ethan Peck II

One of the things I didn't make room for stabbing at for in my take-down review of George Clooney's latest directing failure called The Midnight Sky last night was Clooney casting the perfect specimen known as Ethan Peck -- yes, Gregory's grandson, who plays Spock on TV right now -- as the younger version of himself in flashbacks. Uhh we saw you when you were young, George, and you were no Ethan Peck. You may have had a certain attitudinal je ne sais quoi in certain roles (From Dusk Til Dawn pops to mind) but four extra inches, linebacker shoulders, perfect space-alien eyes and a chest like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, none of these are things you ever possessed, Mister George Clooney!

That said Ethan does do an uncanny Clooney voice -- I actually convinced myself that George was dubbing his lines, but I am now wondering if that wasn't just me trying to entertain myself during this slog of a film. And on top of all that the flashbacks that Ethan was in were easily the worst part of the film, saddled with some of the most generic and ultimately pointless character-building I've seen in awhile. That poor actress who played his young wife!

Anyway Ethan was the best looking thing in the film even if he didn't have much to do, and I hope he gets some more roles off of this -- I don't watch Star Trek Discovery and so I never get to see him even though I've been a fan (of looking at him anyway) for several years -- check the archives

He's long had a tag here on the site -- click here for our first "Gratuitous Ethan Peck" post way back when -- but it's just been sitting here waiting for content to fill it. Thankfully I found this photoshoot two nights ago, as I googled "Ethan Peck" as that dreary movie wore on and on. Hit the jump for another dozen photos...

The Midnight Sky in 275 Words

Never have the heavens felt heavier than they do in George Clooney's The Midnight Sky -- perhaps that's because instead of their usual light and air they're suddenly stuffed with space debris, muddled exposition, exhausting musical compositions, bland characters, weird interior design, Felicity Jones' single facial expression, the eternal strain for some sort of emotional or philosophical resonance or significance, a splash of cosmos twinkle, and David Oyelowo's bicep-accentuating future shirts, maybe not in that order. No wonder Clooney's main character can hardly lift his head. It's heavy, man.

Set about 25 years in the future immediately following a vague apocalypse Clooney's character finds himself stationed at a stark frozen outpost -- my favorite thing in the film is the station's name, a Carpenter-ian flourish worth a smirk -- all on his lonesome. Except, hark Newt, he's not -- there's suddenly a mute little girl standing there. Cue the strings, and the strings, and the goddamned strings -- when Alexandre Desplat's soundtrack started plinking as the adorable little girl rolled some microwaved peas across the table I, for my sanity, had to check the hell out.

There are a couple of well-done set-pieces of the action sort -- what starts out as a rip-off of Gravity ends instead on a nicely underplayed note of tragedy, and there are scattered glimpses of cosmic brilliance in the film's expensively shot sheen. But my god I never cared. I never cared about the astronaut characters because they're never flesh-and-blood characters, and I never cared about the people on the ground because their scenes are so molasses-handed, thick with pushy melodrama, I skittered backwards in my seat as if shoved by a magnetic force.

Live Long and Pecker

.
I'll never be accused of being the world's biggest Trekkie but I live with one and I appreciate the Trek universe fine enough - it's not a love, per se, but a genuine like for sure. If Bryan Fuller had stayed attached to Star Trek Discovery that might have changed - I'd have watched the show, at least! But he didn't, so I haven't gotten around to it - did any of you? Opinions seemed all over the place. Anyway I might have to give it a go now because the gorgeous and longstanding crush Ethan Peck (grandson of Gregory) has just landed the role of Baby Spock. Okay "Baby" is pushing it - Ethan is 32 now, which is the exact same age Zachary Quinto was when he took on the role in the 2009 Star Trek movie. Anyway you oughta scroll through our Ethan Archives, they're worth a click I promise, and then you can hit the jump here for a few more recent pics I just swiped off Ethan's Instagram as a means of celebration or whatever...

Good Morning, World

.
A happy 31st birthday to Gregory Peck's grandson and actor Ethan Peck today, who we've celebrated on several previous occasions here on the site. And now you may hit the jump for a few more such celebrations, if you so please...

Ethan Peck Seven Times

.
If I'd known that Maxim magazine had pictures of hot furry guys underneath of all those hot girl covers I might have picked up an issue before today (sidenote: deepest apologies to a friend of mine who works for Maxim) but this photo-shoot of Ethan Peck -- someone we've been ogling for several years now -- is enough to make us wonder what else we've missed. (thanks Mac)

The entire interview with Mr. Peck (yes he's that other Mr. Pekc's grandson, in case you didn't already know that) isn't online but you can read a snippet here -- Ethan has apparently joined (or is joining) the cast of Empire? Oh bless you, Lee Daniels, you best take advantage! We are relying on you for full "Zac Efron dancing in the rain in tighty-whities" realness. Anyway hit the jump for the rest of the pictures...

Good Morning, World

.
How I managed to forget about this one is a mystery for the ages -- when the trailer first hit in 2013 we posted about a movie called Eden, which is about a soccer team getting stranded on a deserted island (think a sandy Alive), but then when it hit VOD just a couple of weeks ago into their little folders went the gratuitous pictures of stars Nate Parker & Ethan Peck, only to gather dust until this morning when I saw it's Nate's birthday today.

Yeah, I deserve that look, Nate. Happy birthday, anyway! Nate came up earlier this week in conversation on my post about who should play bisexual boxer Emile Griffith - I think he's good casting and not just because I want to see him play both bisexual and a boxer. He's been deserving of a meaty role for awhile now - he was my favorite thing in All Them Bodies Saints back in 2013. (ETA About half an hour after I posted this post news broke of Parker signing with CAA, which probably means better work ahead!)

As for Ethan, aka the grandson of Gregory Peck, well the boy's been working out, that much is clear! Click back on our gratuitous post about him back in 2012 to see his previous self, which was already looking pretty good, but he's gotten better. Anyway here's the trailer for this movie Eden:

It is available to watch at Amazon - somebody go tell me if it's worth the effort, and I'll repay your hard work with some more shots of these two after the jump...

Into the Wild Boys

.
Today is the actor Nate Parker's 34th birthday - as we gratuitously expressed back in July after seeing him in a small role in Ain't The Bodies Saints, we really wouldn't mind seeing him in lots more stuff! So it being his birthday I looked him up to see what news there is about him and I found this, quite a mother-lode actually, the trailer for a movie called Eden. It's basically Alive (minus the cannibalism) (I think) meets Lord of the Flies - a soccer team's plane crashes on a deserted island, and then all the hot young athletes take off their shirts and run around. I'm sure there's a happy ending, right?
.
.
On top of Nate (yeah I worded that purposefully, for maximum fantasy) the film co-stars Ethan Peck (see gratuitous post here) and Diego Boneta (see gratuitous post here), plus several more pretty young things I haven't posted about before -- for instance Mario Casas came up in the comments of this other old post involving Boneta, and I've been meaning to give him some love ever since...

... you can see why. Actually you know what, I've got a ton of pictures of Mario, let's just hijack this post altogether and put those after the jump cuz why not...

Ethan Peck Three Times

.

Like I said I rewatched Roman Holiday yesterday while laid up and it took me about half an hour into it to look up Gregory Peck's grandson again. We'd previously gratutized the now 27 year old right here - turns out his birthday was just four days ago.

Gratuitous Ethan Peck

.
You can all thank Glenn at Stale Popcorn for this one - Glenn met, swooned over, and chatted with the young actor Ethan Peck at the Melbourne International Film Festival over the weekend, thus inspiring this. I have never seen Mr. Peck in anything (Alright he was apparently in that Justin Timberlake sci-fi-thriller In Time but that movie had me rolling my eyes too hard to pay any attention) - the only thing I know about him is he's the grandbaby of Gregory Peck. And he was on that 10 Things I Know About You television show, which also gave us Chris Zylka - it's this generation's American Graffiti for attractive young gentlemen!

So the movie Glenn saw at MIFF with this Peck fellow in it is called Mine Games and it's a "cabin in the woods" thriller that's apparently a mess, but an entertaining one. Sounds right up my alley. Another Ethan fun fact - he played young Ashton Kutcher on That 70s Show. I can tell that was good casting based on the eyes alone.

OK I know blah blah let's get to the good stuff.
Hit the jump for the rest. Good stuff, ho.
