Taking Flight: Chapter 6

Het zesde hoofdstuk van Taking Flight gaat over 'Speaking our truth through our creativity'. Vaak geeft creativiteit mij een gevoel van vrijheid en dat heb ik in deze pagina willen uitdrukken. De achtergrond is gemaakt met acrylverf en pastelkrijt.
The sixth chapter of Taking Flight is about 'Speaking our truth through our creativity'. Often creativity gives me a feeling of freedom and that is what I tried to express in this page. Made the background with acrylic paint and pastel crayons.

Taking Flight: Chapter 5

Het heeft even geduurd maar hier zijn dan weer twee pagina's voor mijn Taking Flight boekje. Het vijfde hoofdstuk van Taking Flight gaat over "Honoring Memories".
It's a while ago but here are two new pages for my Taking Flight booklet. The fifth chapter of Taking Flight is about "Honoring Memories".

In de eerste pagina heb ik herinneringen verwerkt uit mijn tijd op de lagere school. Twee boekjes waren toen heel belangrijk voor me: mijn poëziealbum en mijn rekenboekje. De versjes en plaatjes uit het album vind ik nog steeds erg leuk. Het rekenboekje werd gebruikt om schooltje te spelen. Met de poppen als leerlingen kon ik uren sommetjes maken op een schoolbord. Later ben ik scheikundelerares geworden!
For the first page I used memories from my primary school time. Two things were very important to me: my 'poëziealbum' (an album with rhymes from family, friends, teachers, etc.) and my arithmetic-book. Every day I played school with my puppets doing sums on a blackboard. Later on I became a chemistry teacher!

De tweede pagina gaat over mijn eerste jaren op de middelbare school: altijd verliefd op de leraren en op de jongens uit de klas. En eigenlijk was ik nog zo'n klein meisje. Maar dromen kon ik erg goed. Naar school gaan was voor mij een groot feest.
The second page is about the first years of secondary school: always in love with the teachers and the boys in the class. In fact I was still such a little girl. But very good in dreaming.

Geïnspireerd door een stukje tekst over regendruppels heb ik deze pagina gemaakt voor hoofdstuk 4 van Taking Flight: "Finding the Sacred in the Ordinary". Veel maskeren en sponsen, een techniek uit de Technique Junkie nieuwsbrief (Scrappy Spots, June/July 2009).
Inspired by a piece of text about raindrops I made this page for chapter 4 of Taking Flight: "Finding the Sacred in the Ordinary". A lot of masking and sponging, a technique from the Technique Junkie newsletter (Scrappy Spots, June/July 2009).
Text: "Even raindrops aren't just raindrops. Instead, they are bubbles of rainwater that, if looked closely upon, reveal a mirror image of their surroundings".

Taking Flight (12) & TGiF

Ja, ik heb het gedaan! Dit is mijn laatste pagina voor hoofdstuk 3 van Taking Flight: 'Creating Community'. Ik had me voorgenomen om zo'n Kelly Rae Roberts poppetje te tekenen. Het was echt een gigantische drempel voor me want ik kan niet tekenen (daarom stempel ik!). En dit is het geworden.... Toch leuk om te doen maar het hoeft van mij niet nog een keer...

Yes, I did it! This is my last page for chapter 3 of Taking Flight: 'Creating Community'. I had the intention to draw such a Kelly Rae Roberts puppet. It was really a very big step for me because I can't draw (this is why I stamp). So here she is.... It was great to do but I think it was my first and my last time....

Made this page with the step-by-step techniques in the Taking Flight book. The background is a collage of postcards, letters, etc.

Daarna heb ik deze collage bewerkt met acrylverf, alcoholinkt en distressinkten.

Then I coloured this collage with fluid acrylic paints, alcoholink and distressink.

Het derde hoofdstuk van Taking Flight gaat over "Creating Community, to surround yourself with like-minded souls who will help you reach for the best parts of yourself and encourage you to fly". En dit is hoe ik erover denk.
De achtergrond is gemaakt met Acuarela Liquida (vloeibare waterverf) en Lyra Aquacolor krijt. Gestempeld met StazOn Jet Black en Teal Blue.

Wat doe je als je een stapel afvalstukjes van printerpapier hebt? Weer een pagina voor het Taking Flight boekje maken. Opgeplakt met gel medium en nog een laagje over het geheel. Daarna bewerkt met Versamagic Malted Mauve inkt. Accenten aangebracht met zwart krijt. Woorden en patroon met StazOn Jet Black en sjablonen. Tekst met computer gemaakt.
What do you do when you have a lot of pieces of printer paper? Make another page for the Taking Flight booklet. Glued on with gel medium and covered with a layer over the whole. Then rubbed a Versamagic Malted Mauve pad all over the page. Made accents with black crayon. Words and pattern with StazOn Jet Black and stencils. Text made with the computer.

De eerste pagina voor mijn Taking Flight boekje gemaakt. Steeds mezelf zitten vertellen dat het allemaal niet zo netjes hoeft en dat ik vooral mijn hoofd moet uitschakelen. Gewoon lekker doen. Was wel wennen.... en dit is het geworden. Gestempeld met StazOn Jet Black, daarna geverfd en gestempeld met Adirondack dabbers (lemonade, butterscotch en terra cotta) en met gesso.

Made the first page for my Taking Flight booklet. It's so difficult for me working less neat and switching off my head. But I tried it and... this is the result. Stamped with StazOn Jet Black, then painted and stamped with Adirondack dabbers (lemonade, butterscotch and terra cotta) and with gesso.

Taking Flight (1) & Lots to Do

Vorige maand het schitterende boek Taking Flight (Inspiration & Techniques to give your Creative Spirit Wings) van Kelly Rae Roberts aangeschaft. Wat een heerlijk boek om bij weg te dromen en om actief mee bezig te zijn! Ik heb besloten om mijn eigen taking flight boekje (13 x 16 cm) te maken met citaten uit het boek, allerlei nieuwe technieken en ............ Gestart met het maken van een voorkaft uit grijsbord. Voor de achtergrond van de buiten- en binnenkant heb ik een collage techniek uit het boek gebruikt en daarna mijn fantasie op losgelaten.
Last month I bought Kelly Rae Roberts's marvellous book Taking Flight (Inspiration & Techniques to give your Creative Spirit Wings). It's a fantastic book to daydream and to be creative. I have decided to make my own taking flight booklet (13 x 16 cm) with quotes from the book, new techniques and.... Made a front cover, using the collage technique from the book with a lot of fantasy.
