Summer of Color Comes to an End
Summer of Color is coming to an end.
So I decided to make a mosaic of all I have done so far.
This has been such a delightful project
that I have decided to keep filling my
journal to the very end.
I would like to thank Kristin very much
for such a delightful time.
Here's hoping we can do it again.
Thank you Kristin!!!!

Summer of Color Orange
This week Kristin choose orange
and I was delighted as one of my
favorite plants this summer is
Calibrachoa otherwise known as
Callie Orange.
I used it as a filler plant in my
hanging baskets and it has done
beautifully.
I love this old poem. Sorry
but the author is unknown.
I am anxious to see what Kristin
has in-store for us now! I have really
enjoyed the summer of color and my
journal is filling up nicely.

Summer of Color Purple
The Summer of Color this week is Purple.
Once again I did mine with flowers from
my garden. It is watercolor, pen
and ink.
Teddy my bichon became bored and decided
to nap amongst the irises I was painting.
Just about asleep!
I tried to get his shiny metal tags in the
painting but would you disturb that little
face, So I "let the sleeping dog lie "!
Thanks again to Kristen for the
opportunity to participate. This
has been so much fun and a great
addition to my Grow book.
Check her blog out. The button
on the right will take you right there.

Summer of Color Red
Last Fall I decided to bring in my
four flower boxes of geraniums as they
were still gorgeous. I sprayed for bugs and
then moved them to my garden window
by my bath tub. They bloomed happily
all winter and especially at Christmas.
Moved them out to there usual place for summer
and they are still looking beautiful.
This is for Summer of Color.
The color this week is red.
I did it in watercolor , pen and ink.
I can hardly wait to see what color Kristin has
picked for next week!

Summer of Color Brown
I was in a panic when I saw "BROWN".
Did I have any dead flowers around
the place ,was my first thought.
Silly girl... then a ah-ha moment...
My chocolate Cosmos from
The Chocolate Farm on
Whidbey Island.
Then I remembered my Gypsy Dancer.
No not a gypsy dancing through the
garden but my Coral Bells by that name.
It actually is darker than how I painted
it. But I wanted to show the veining in
those brown coppery leaves. It has
tiny coral bells on long delicate stems.
The Chocolate Farm is a wonderful place
and they even have the most darling shop
in Langley , a cute small town on Whidbey Island WA.
I added the link if you want to peak at all their
chocolate flowers. It is a fun place.
My piece is an addition to my Grow Journal as is
watercolor and pen and ink. My bold shot of color
is the lime green centers on the chocolate cosmos.
Yes they have lime green centers. Yes they do!
Thanks Kristin for another fun week.

Summer of Color Yellow
I planted these Iris 15 years ago and
am delighted they still come up and
put on a show.
I mixed Pearl Ex powder in with yellow
and some of the green to get a metallic
look on parts of the flower. That's why the close
up as it doesn't really show above.
Sort of shows up at the centers. Hard to get in a photo.
Here are some photo's of this little gem.

Summer of Color Pinks
This weeks color is pinks and my spider lily
fit the bill. Once again it is a watercolor
that I added to my Grow journal, that I made.
I am filling it with plants that I have grown
for 2011. You can click on images to enlarge.
I also added this foxglove that grows
prolifically all over our property. It comes
up in many colors. I added a Neocolor wax
pastel for the centers of the individual flower.
The rest is watercolor. I don't think I like
the Neocolor on this one. Too bright...
I took a photo of the top as it
was starting to rain and I wanted to
get the shape and colors right.
Sorry no photo of the Spider Lily .
I must get more organized in the photo
dept., someday....

Summer of Color Green and Citron
The colors for this week were green and citron.
So I wandered through my garden and found
this yellow Asiatic lily with it green leaves and
citron colored buds just waiting to burst into bloom.
So I added it to my Grow watercolor book.
This is one the rabbits didn't get to. We seem
to have an explosion of bunnies this year. Love
them but not when the eat my flowers.
You can all still join in the Summer of Color.
