Crayon Roll Ups

Just finished up an order for these crayon-roll-ups.
This one is for the little boy.
and this one is for the little girl.
I used those triangular shaped crayons that
won't roll off the table and they promote
proper writing grip. They are large and
strong for the most "discriminating   colorist" !!.
Was a great project to get done on this cold and blustery day.
Forecast is for that 4 letter word. ( I hope not)

Iv'e been busy again...

I made up six bundles of lavender sachets. I must tell you it is most difficult to stay awake while working on them. I drifted off twice.LOL I put them on my Etsy if you wish to see the different colors in each bundle. I made some cute little cards to attach to the bundles. Thank you Dawn for the print and thanks to Diane for the wonderful tips on making the cards a little more special. It's so nice to have friends that share their knowledge and tips with you. I have found so many dear friends since I started blogging. Though we may never meet I feel like we have been friends forever. Well off to have a late dinner and then nighty night.

A needle Case

I have not fallen off the face of the earth. I have had the urge to re-organize my painting, etc studio. This entails going through 23 drawers, file cabinets, work table, etc. I empty each drawer and start all over. At this rate I should be done next Dec. just in time to start all over. LOL!!!! Somebody HELP ME. What was I thinking. I am such a pack rat. But I am determined. Anyway I did break away (literally) to make some needle cases this weekend. Plus a decoupage project was started. But I digress....

NEEDLE CASE

The needle case was made of silk dupioni and felt for the cover.
It is folded in half in photo.

The color is not that wild, I do believe my flash went off. Sorry. I lined the silk with a lite pellon interfacing and sewed around the edges as silk dupioni likes to fray. I then added some lace and a cut out felt heart.

I then did my embellishing with silk ribbon embroidery, a charm and crazy quilt stitching. Charm was added at the end. On the inside fabric on the right side I added the felt layers for the needles. Fold your fabric in half right sides together, then open and place felt on the lower half .I then layed the batting ( I used Cotton) the inside fabric (which I used a coordinating cotton print), and the cover fabric (silk dupioni) right sides together. Plus I added 2 pcs. of two sided satin ribbon for the ties. Take your time on this process, making sure you are laying them right. I call this thinking backwards. Imagine turning right side out, are the layers in the correct order. Doing this saves a lot of frustration later. ( I know ;-0 ) Remember the ribbon is all tucked inside with just the ends sticking out. Be careful to try and keep the ribbon in the center. Then sew around the edge, leaving a opening for turning. Clip corners and turn out. Press. Sew opening closed. Now you have a sweet needle case, just the right size.

This case is for a friend, so her name is embroidered on it. Now back to re-organizing. :-( !! Have a great day!!!!

Playing with thread...

Over the past few months I have been working on a quilt about nature. So I decided to play around and try creating some of these creatures with thread. First was my moth done in silk dupioni and tiny bits of fur (not real fur)! I quilted it and the wings move, so it really doesn't look flat. It is finished on both sides.
Next I tryed a butterfly. Same technique as the moth. But I am still working on the body, as so far cannot find what is needed.

I then tryed a very delicate and lacy looking dragonfly. All done with threads onto a netting. I used a wash away stabilizer both on top and bottom. I did free hand quilting and really enjoyed it. The body was done with metallic thread.
I sewed beads onto the wings for a little shimmer. Here is another shot. My camera or maybe me is not doing so well on this one. The colors are
more aqua than pictured....

Then I created a leaf. Similar technique as the moth and butterfly. The leaf is partially eaten by a yet to be created caterpillar.

Finally I fooled around with a fish,(not to be used in this quilt) that I shall show you. It was created the same way of the dragonfly. I must mention that you should be constantly checking and making sure that your threads overlap enough to hold the image together. Poor fish lost his tail several times....

Lots more to create before the quilt can be started for final layout. A fun project.

Soon to travel...

The little girls will soon be on their way to Pat. Ms. Daffodil, Ms. Blue Bonnet, Ms. Lavender and Ms Nellie are finished. Funny how they develop personalities while being created. I was going to stuff them with little lavender pouches but a friend said no because the person who gets them may have allergies. :-( . So they shall arrive unscented. I do hope they behave on their trip and arrive in one piece. LOL . I hope they bring comfort to their new owners. Well I'm off to the post office.

MORE COMFORT DOLLS

I have been having more fun creating more comfort dolls. I think my inner child is peaking through. I found this wonderful little stamp for the faces on these. They look like they are thinking about some special thing, don't you think?
I am putting two pictures up because " Miss Daffodil" has objected to having only half a face in the first photo. WHeewwee! LOL They do develop attitudes... Now to finish dressing them!

COMFORT DOLLS A WORTHY PROJECT

Finally got a start on my comfort dolls. I am slower that molasses on this project. But now that I have a start there is hope. I spent a lot of time trying to get the size right... I think she is quite lively , with very bright and sunny colors. Her hair is black glass beads, which I double sewed for strength. Now to my lavender stash for the stuffing. Hope I have enough.........
